Guest teaching for July 20th, 2025 at Little Sandy Church in Hot Springs North Carolina. This teaching was presented with the purpose of instilling confidence in one's salvation regardless of what others may say and to provide concrete evidence that scripture alone and not anyone else or any other organization can define what salvation is, the requirements for salvation, and that only Jesus can judge our salvation.

God Honest Truth is a Messianic Ministry based in Western North Carolina. Our goal is to spread the good news of Messiah Yahushua to the entire world and to teach the truths of Yahuweh’s word to anyone seeking to further their education and walk in faith.

We believe in the inerrancy of scripture and that scripture alone, not any church decree or any word of man, can define what is and is not salvation.

We will always strive to do Biblical things in Biblical ways instead of allowing the traditions of men to get in the way of scripture.

00:00Last week's message was on rejection, and I want you to be able to stand fast in your
00:07assurance of your salvation, even when you're rejected by those who would claim to be your
00:11brothers and sisters in Messiah.
00:13We also went over the concept of brotherly interaction in the last Sunday School message
00:21in June.
00:22If you look back, and I think it's this particular booklet, but it talks about the brotherly
00:27interactions and how we should be kind to one another and not be divisive and hateful
00:33and things like that.
00:34So hopefully this teaching will help with that.
00:37And I also want to ask yourself, do you think that God wants true believers to go throughout
00:42their life worrying whether or not they are actually born again?
00:47Or do you think God wants you to have assurance and to be firm in your confidence of your
00:54salvation?
00:54So a little bit of history, and this is sort of a side note, but I think it's kind of interesting.
01:02People say that you can only be saved in the name of Jesus.
01:07When we think about salvation, we talk about salvation, that's the first name that comes
01:11to mind is the name Jesus.
01:15But what does that really mean?
01:17Because 250 years ago, before that, no one had ever heard the name Jesus.
01:23It may be surprising to find out, but when the 1611 King James was translated, it wasn't
01:30the first English translation.
01:31Wycliffe, Tyndale, others had come before that.
01:34But the 1611 King James, which a lot of people around here point to, you know yourself, some
01:41of these King James only people, which is fine, that's not today's subject, but the original
01:461611 King James did not ever mention the name Jesus, not even once.
01:54Everybody know that?
01:56It's very interesting.
01:57We have it today in our King James, but that's because of the adaptation and the changing of
02:02the English language and the way things were.
02:05In 1611, when the King James was put together, the name of Christ was put together with I-E-S-U-S.
02:14Yesus.
02:16Anyone ever heard that name before?
02:19Well, that's the name you get from the Greek, because that was his name in Greek, Yesus,
02:25which that Greek name itself came from the Hebrew word Yeshua.
02:30Anyone ever heard the word Yeshua before?
02:34Well, Yeshua is the name that our Messiah was called by when he was here on earth.
02:40So I'm going to put it to you like this.
02:42It's not the actual pronunciation, it's what saves us.
02:46In scripture, the way the Hebrew mindset works, his name represents power and authority and
02:54character.
02:55So it is true that we are only saved by the power, authority, and character of our Messiah,
03:02not the actual syllables that get uttered.
03:05Does that make sense?
03:06I just thought it was always neat, because I'm a history kind of nerd, but that was kind
03:10of neat, in my opinion.
03:13But when we talk about salvation, that is the name that we think of.
03:17Think of Jesus, which comes from the Hebrew Yeshua.
03:19Now, every Hebrew name has a meaning, but Yeshua, in Hebrew, is the Hebrew word for salvation.
03:31And it actually means, literally, Yahweh saves, or God saves.
03:36And if you look up in the Strong's Dictionary, look up the name Jesus, that's exactly what it
03:41says.
03:41It comes from a certain Hebrew word, which means Jehovah saves, in Strong's.
03:46But, that's the subject for a different day, how the J got evolved.
03:51But you can look in your notes, I've actually put the entries in there for that Hebrew word,
03:55Yeshua.
03:56That's what our Messiah was called while he was here on earth, and his name literally means
04:01salvation.
04:04Now, you ask different people about salvation, how to get saved, they'll come up and tell you
04:10different things.
04:11Let's look at Mormonism, real quick.
04:17Mormonism, from the Book of Mormon itself, it states,
04:22For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children and also our brethren, to believe
04:27in Christ, and to be reconciled to God.
04:29For we know that it is by grace that we are saved after all we can do.
04:35That struck a chord right there, from anyone who is even semi-familiar with the biblical concept
04:44of salvation?
04:47It goes on.
04:49And that's from the Book of Mormon.
04:50I'm not making this up.
04:51That is the actual text from the Book of Mormon.
04:53Here is a quote from the actual website, the official website of the Church of Jesus Christ
04:58of Latter-day Saints.
04:59Quote,
05:00To be cleansed from sin through the Savior's atonement, an individual must exercise faith
05:06in Jesus Christ, repent, be baptized, and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
05:11Those who have been baptized and have received the Holy Ghost through the proper priesthood
05:15authority have been conditionally saved from sin.
05:23This is the Mormon concept of salvation.
05:26Again, from their official website, in their own words.
05:31Quote,
05:31Let me read that again.
05:51Almost every person who has ever lived on the earth is assured salvation from the second
05:58death.
05:58Now, you start reading through this to learn what other people kind of think about various
06:04doctrines and stuff, and you start reading things like this on their website, from their
06:07actual text, and certain stuff seems to be correct.
06:12Seems like it's good.
06:14Some of these things I've already read, they are correct.
06:17They are in line with Scripture.
06:18If you take the whole thing in context, you see what they're actually saying, and they're
06:22not actually following Scripture.
06:24It goes on to continue from the official Mormon website.
06:29In the Scriptures, the words saved and salvation often refer to eternal life or exaltation.
06:36Eternal life is to know Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and dwell with them forever, to
06:41inherit a place in the highest degree of the celestial kingdom.
06:44Now, this exaltation, speaking of salvation, being with God and all that, this exaltation
06:51requires that men receive the Melchizedek priesthood and that all church members make and keep sacred
06:59covenants in the temple.
07:01Which temple do you think they mean?
07:03The Mormon temple.
07:05Keep sacred covenants in the temple, including the covenant of eternal marriage.
07:11Lots of things wrong there, at least from what I can see.
07:16Number one, we are not required to have the Melchizedek priesthood for salvation.
07:21Not from what I read in Scripture.
07:22If I'm wrong, let me know.
07:25Raise your hand.
07:26Let's present some evidence.
07:27But I don't see that.
07:29Number two, we're not required to go to the Mormon temple for salvation.
07:34Mormon temple has only been around less than 200 years.
07:39Messiah was here almost 2,000 years ago.
07:41And number three, eternal marriage.
07:46I know just about everyone in here is married or has been married, but the way I read Scripture
07:51is once you die, that's it.
07:53Your marriage is done.
07:54When you get to heaven, you might see your spouse, but you're not going to be married
07:57to them.
07:59Or at least that's what I read from what Jesus said, that when we die, we'll be like the
08:03angels, that we are neither married nor given in marriage.
08:07But not with Mormonism.
08:09Mormonism teaches that you have eternal marriage, and it really gets into the weeds, but Mormons
08:14believe that God, the almighty God that we think of God, used to be human and mortal and
08:19stuff like that, but he ascended to his Godhead or his Godship, and that we can do the same
08:24if we lead a good Mormon life.
08:27We'll go off, be a God, like the God, rule over our own planet and things like that.
08:33It really gets steep.
08:35And like I said, I am not appealing to this.
08:36I'm just using this for illustration purposes only.
08:40Moving on, let's go and look at the Jehovah's Witnesses.
08:43I'm sure just about everyone here has had some kind of encounter with Jehovah's Witnesses
08:47before.
08:48But this comes from their Watchtower magazine, their September 15, 1991 edition.
08:55To ensure their salvation, Noah and his family needed to exercise faith.
09:02During the Great Tribulation, it will be just as imperative that we follow the leadings of
09:06the Holy Spirit and obey Jehovah's instructions through his organization.
09:13So according to Jehovah's Witnesses, what is part of the thing that's required for salvation?
09:19Now once again, if you go to the actual electronic version online, you'll be able to click there.
09:32It will take you directly to the Jehovah's Witnesses website.
09:36You can read for yourself.
09:37I am not making this up.
09:38I promise you.
09:41From their book, You Can Live Forever in Paradise on Earth in 1982.
09:45You do not conclude that there are different roads or ways that you can follow to gain life
09:52in God's new system.
09:54There is only one.
09:56There was just the one ark that survived the flood, not a number of boats.
10:00And there will be only one organization, God's visible organization, that will survive the
10:06fast approaching Great Tribulation.
10:08You must be part of Jehovah's organization doing God's will in order to receive the blessing
10:14of eternal life.
10:16So if you're not a part of the Jehovah's Witness organization, apparently you're not going to
10:20have eternal life, according to Jehovah's Witnesses, anyways.
10:24And finally, from the Watchtower 1989 September edition,
10:29only Jehovah's Witnesses, those of the anointed remnant, and the great crowd as a united organization
10:36under the protection of the supreme organizer, have any scriptural hope of surviving the impending
10:43end of this doomed system dominated by Satan the devil.
10:47They will make up the flesh that Jesus said would be saved through the worst tribulation
10:52of all human history.
10:54You kind of start seeing a theme here, right, that we looked at Mormons and they said if
11:00you're not part of Mormonism, you're not doing the temple and stuff like that, you're not
11:04saved.
11:05Jehovah's Witnesses says if you're not part of our organization, you're not going to be
11:09saved.
11:10You kind of start seeing a theme here.
11:13Well, let's continue this theme with one more group you've probably heard of before.
11:17These are called the Roman Catholics.
11:20This comes from the Second Vatican Council in 1964, quote,
11:28This sacred council wishes to turn its attention firstly to the Catholic faithful, basing itself
11:34upon sacred scripture and tradition.
11:37It teaches that the church, now sojourning on earth as an exile, is necessary for salvation.
11:44Let me stop right there real quick.
11:46When you're reading some of these texts and back in, especially older texts, stuff like
11:50that, when it talks about church, lowercase c, it generally means like the body of Christ,
11:57believers everywhere, stuff like that.
11:59And this quote, it's got the capital C for church, which means they're talking about the
12:05church, they mean the Catholic church.
12:07Also, the word Catholic, when it's a lowercase c, it means pretty much universal, believers
12:13everywhere, those of the faithful of all time, anywhere on earth.
12:17Catholic C is the Catholic church, like we would think about today.
12:21So, it teaches that the church, capital C, now sojourning on earth as an exile, is necessary
12:29for salvation.
12:30Christ, present to us in his body, which is the church, is the one mediator and the unique
12:37way of salvation.
12:39In explicit terms, he himself affirmed the necessity of faith and baptism and thereby affirmed
12:45also the necessity of the church, capital C.
12:49For through baptism, as through a door, men enter the church.
12:55Whosoever, therefore, knowing that the Catholic church was made necessary by Christ, would refuse
13:03to enter or to remain in it, could not be saved.
13:09So, once again, just like with Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, if you're not part of their organization,
13:14they do not consider you to be saved.
13:15Going on, oh, I'm sorry, let me back up.
13:18That was from the Second Vatican Council in 1964, but this is just something that's been
13:23going on for the past 2,000 years almost.
13:27Catholic Church, at least in my opinion, got started in 325, but that's teaching for another
13:33day.
13:34And it lasted for about 1,200 years until Martin Luther came along in the 1500s.
13:40But during that time, there was only one church in the church.
13:43They had the power, they had the money, all that.
13:47And so, in 1964, the Second Vatican Council, they're still just stating what they've always
13:52believed.
13:53And here's something that comes from the, oh, no, I'm sorry, I'm not down to that yet.
13:59This comes from the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
14:02Again, this comes from the official Vatican website.
14:08In their own words, I'm not making this up.
14:10All salvation comes from Christ through the head, through the church, which is his body.
14:19Hence, they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary
14:25by God through Christ, would refuse to enter it or to remain in it.
14:31Once again, saying that the Catholic Church, their organization, is required for salvation.
14:37Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the gospel of Christ or his church,
14:43but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart and moved by grace, try in their actions
14:49to do his will, as they know it, through the dictates of their conscience, those too may
14:54achieve eternal salvation.
14:57So, before they were saying you have to be part of the Catholic Church, but now they're
15:00saying here, some of the ignorant, even those will have salvation, even those who do not
15:04come to Christ.
15:07In my opinion, it's starting to get way off course here.
15:11There's only one way to heaven.
15:13There's only one way to Father, and that's through the Son.
15:18Going back to the end of the 5th century, maybe the beginning of the 6th century, this
15:25is from the Athanasian Creed, which the beginning and end of that creed says pretty much all that
15:32you need to know about what Catholics believe about salvation.
15:35I put the entire creed in the notes, it's a big ol' long creed, but the very first and
15:41last parts is what I'm going to read to you right now.
15:43Whosoever will be saved before all things, it is necessary that he hold the Catholic faith,
15:50which faith, except everyone do keep whole and undefiled, without doubt he shall perish
15:57everlastingly.
15:58Once again, they're saying you have to hold to the Catholic faith, but out of the other
16:14side of their mouth, they say something different.
16:17Another quote from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, directly from the Vatican website.
16:21This is about Muslims.
16:24Now listen to this.
16:28Let me read that first part one more time.
16:46The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, i.e., they're talking
16:53about Muslims here.
16:55They're talking about the Muslims are part of the plan of salvation.
17:01What verse is that in the Bible?
17:04I somehow missed that.
17:05Can someone pull it up real quick?
17:07Maybe it's in the book of Second Pope or something.
17:12I'm not really sure.
17:14But this is crazy.
17:16And once again, I've put this out there for illustration purposes only.
17:19I'm not appealing to the Mormons.
17:21I'm not appealing to the Joseph's Witnesses.
17:23I'm not appealing to the Roman Catholics.
17:26The point is that various people have different ideas about salvation, what constitutes salvation,
17:32and who can be saved.
17:34But I want you to know today that it doesn't matter what they say.
17:39It matters what God says in his scriptures and in his word.
17:44And that's where we're going to get to here in just a moment.
17:46None of these doctrines that we just went over that you may hear about, even within the Baptist
17:52church or the Methodist church or whatever, if it's not from scripture, then it's not a part
17:58of salvation, not required for salvation.
18:00The Bible is sufficient to tell us what salvation is, how to get salvation, and all that.
18:08We don't need anyone else.
18:10All these doctrines that we just went over, all these other doctrines that you may come
18:14across in your daily travels, they were written after the fact.
18:19They were written after the time of scripture.
18:22And therefore, they are man-made.
18:25And man-made doctrines tend to lead people astray.
18:29But the word of God is infallible.
18:33Placing your faith in these man-made doctrines will lead you astray.
18:37And they definitely will not save you.
18:43So, let's dive into the meat of it.
18:46Hopefully, we all believe that...
18:49Well, going back to that old refrain of sola scriptura by scripture alone.
18:55Hopefully, everyone here agrees with that.
18:57If not, we can talk later, but...
19:01So, how do we obtain salvation?
19:03Those of you who have your Bibles can turn with me to Romans chapter 10.
19:07I'm going to be jumping around a lot today, so hopefully you've got fast fingers.
19:13Those of you who have the notes are a step ahead, actually.
19:17It'll be in your notes as well.
19:18Romans chapter 10.
19:21If you do not hear anything else, if you do not remember anything else, if you do not retain anything else,
19:27retain this one section right here.
19:30After I get done reading this, you can get up and leave.
19:32That's fine.
19:33But I want you to know this one section right here, straight from the Word of God.
19:38Romans chapter 10, verses 9 and 10.
19:41So, the Word of God says,
20:06That's what the Word of God says about obtaining salvation.
20:20Now, that's on one hand.
20:22On the other hand, we've got the Mormons, we've got the Jehovah's Witnesses, we've got the Catholics all saying these other things.
20:28So, who are you going to choose today to put your trust in for salvation?
20:33The Word of God or external organizations and their opinion on what salvation is and how to get at salvation?
20:41Romans 10, 9 through 10.
20:42Like I said, remember that, write it down, memorize it.
20:45If that's the only thing you retain from today, hey, I feel like I've achieved something.
20:51Moving on to Acts chapter 16.
20:55Acts chapter 16, verses 30 through 31.
20:58Then he brought them out and said,
21:00Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
21:03So, someone's asking this very question that we're covering today.
21:07How do I get saved?
21:08How do I obtain salvation?
21:11Then he brought them out and said,
21:12Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
21:14And they said,
21:15Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.
21:22Isn't that what we just read in Romans chapter 10?
21:24Going on to John chapter 3, verses 16 through 18.
21:30And I'm reading from the translation called the English Standard Version.
21:35If you have something different and it says something different and it kind of piques your interest, let me know.
21:40Because, like I said, I love various translations.
21:44But John chapter 3, verses 16 through 18.
21:46For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
21:51that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
21:56For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,
22:00but in order that the world might be saved through him.
22:04Whoever believes in him is not condemned,
22:07but whoever does not believe is condemned already,
22:11because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
22:19Now there's many other verses, but for the sake of time,
22:21I'm just going to stick with these three on about what salvation is,
22:24how to come to salvation.
22:26And in these three passages that we just read,
22:28is there anything in there about being part of the Roman Catholic Church?
22:33I didn't catch anything.
22:34Anything in there about being in the Mormon temple,
22:38in eternal marriage?
22:41I didn't read that.
22:44What about being a part of only Jehovah's organization
22:47and doing the will of the organization?
22:50Nope.
22:51What does scripture say about salvation?
22:53You believe in Jesus.
22:57What is Julius always saying
22:59that we should remember and think about during Sunday school?
23:04It's belief, right?
23:06Have faith.
23:07Have belief.
23:08Believe that Jesus is Lord
23:10and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead
23:13and you will be saved.
23:17Moving on to Hebrews chapter 11.
23:21Hebrews chapter 11, verse 6.
23:23And without faith, it is impossible to please him.
23:28For whoever would draw near to God
23:30must believe that he exists
23:32and that he rewards those who seek him.
23:36Again, hitting on that theme of belief.
23:39Not actions, not works,
23:41not membership to a particular organization.
23:44Belief.
23:45Going on to 1 John.
23:48Told you he was going to be jumping around.
23:50Be begging for Nathan to come back.
23:52Please don't make me jump around like that again.
23:531 John chapter 5.
23:581 John chapter 5, verse 13.
24:00I write these things to you
24:03who believe in the name of the Son of God
24:06that you may know that you have eternal life.
24:11Be confident.
24:12Be assured that you have salvation
24:15because you believe in Christ.
24:18Because you confessed Jesus as Christ.
24:21Because you believe that God raised him on the third day.
24:23You are saved, have confidence,
24:25have assurance in that,
24:26no matter what anyone says.
24:31Going on to the Gospel of John.
24:34Chapter 20.
24:36You'll see the theme here.
24:39Contradiction or the contrast
24:40between what we read in the beginning
24:42and what we're reading now in Scripture.
24:46John chapter 20, beginning in verse 30.
24:48Now Jesus did many other signs
24:53in the presence of the disciples
24:54which are not written in this book.
24:56But these are written so that you may believe
24:59that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God,
25:02and that by believing you may have life in his name.
25:07Say what you want to about the Gospel of John.
25:10Say, talk about the themes,
25:12talk about who it was written to,
25:14talk about even why it was written.
25:15But John himself tells us right here
25:18why he wrote the Gospel of John.
25:20And he wrote it so that you may believe
25:23that Jesus is the Christ,
25:26that he's the Son of God,
25:27and that by believing,
25:29you may have eternal life.
25:35John didn't write this
25:36so you could get membership
25:37in a particular organization,
25:38so you could go off
25:39and make your own requirements for salvation.
25:42No, he told you why he wrote this
25:44and it's so you could have salvation
25:45by believing in Jesus.
25:51So now we know
25:52what other people say about salvation,
25:54how to give salvation,
25:55what is salvation,
25:57all that stuff.
25:58Now we know what Scripture says
26:00about how to obtain salvation,
26:02what salvation is.
26:05So now let's look at
26:06judging one another's salvation.
26:09Can we do it?
26:11Should we do it?
26:12How do we do it?
26:15Well, once again,
26:16let's not go to any organization.
26:18Let's not listen to
26:19a good-looking redneck up front.
26:20Let's look at the Word of God itself.
26:26Going to John chapter 5, verse 22.
26:30John chapter 5, verses 22 and 27.
26:33For the Father judges no one,
26:37but has given all judgment to the Son,
26:39and He has given Him authority
26:41to execute judgment
26:42because He is the Son of Man.
26:45So when it comes down to
26:46judging someone else's salvation,
26:49are we to do it?
26:51Not from the way I read it.
26:53Now we are to judge sin.
26:55Yeah.
26:56If someone's doing something,
26:58I can say,
26:58well, that's a sin.
26:59That's a judgment.
27:00I can do that kind of judgment.
27:02And Jesus actually tells us
27:03to judge righteous judgment,
27:06but not judge by appearance.
27:08But when it comes to
27:08the judgment of salvation,
27:10that's not for any of us to judge.
27:12That's just for Jesus alone.
27:14Even here in the book of John,
27:15it says,
27:16for the Father Himself judges no one.
27:20He gave that authority to the Son.
27:23That's given all judgment to the Son.
27:25And in the context,
27:26what's it talking about here?
27:27The judgment of salvation.
27:29It's not for us.
27:30And it even says that
27:31the Father judges no one.
27:33He's given that authority to Jesus.
27:36So if someone's judging your salvation,
27:38ask them if they're Jesus.
27:40Because He's the only one
27:41who has authority.
27:43And we read a few of these
27:46from other groups.
27:48You heard those.
27:48You were sitting here.
27:49But lots of people
27:50have different ideas.
27:52Someone could read the Bible
27:53and say,
27:54well, I believe that the Bible teaches
27:55we should eat vanilla ice cream.
27:57Okay, well, I read the Bible
28:00and I see that the Bible says
28:01we should eat chocolate ice cream.
28:03We have a difference of opinion
28:04on what the Bible says
28:05on certain doctrines.
28:07That's fine.
28:08We can disagree.
28:10In my opinion,
28:11there are certain beliefs there
28:15that are open to gray areas
28:16because it's not a salvation issue.
28:19When it comes to salvation issues,
28:22that's where it gets tricky.
28:23You cannot say that
28:24just because you believe
28:25in eating vanilla ice cream
28:28that's required for salvation.
28:29No, that's going above and beyond
28:31what Scripture says.
28:33We need to get back to Scripture,
28:35to Scripture alone.
28:37Sola Scriptura.
28:38And we just read in your,
28:40you can look for it yourselves
28:41in the other translations.
28:43Scripture does not say anything else
28:44except believe that God raised Him
28:47from the dead and confess Him
28:49that He is the Christ.
28:51That's what's required for salvation.
28:55Going on to Romans chapter 15.
28:59Anybody remember when they were younger
29:01how they used to do sword drills
29:02in like Sunday school
29:03or vacation Bible school,
29:05stuff like that?
29:07Nobody?
29:08Wow.
29:10Maybe that was a Baptist thing.
29:13Romans chapter 15.
29:17Verse 4.
29:19For whatever was written
29:20in former days
29:21was written for our instruction
29:23that through endurance
29:24and through the encouragement
29:25of the Scriptures
29:26we might have hope.
29:30So we saw what salvation is.
29:32We saw how to get saved.
29:33We saw who can judge salvation.
29:35It's not us.
29:36It's only Jesus.
29:38It requires belief.
29:40And our source of that belief
29:42is not in man.
29:44It's not in man-made doctrines.
29:45It's not man-made organizations
29:46that came hundreds
29:48or even thousands of years
29:49after Jesus.
29:51No.
29:52Scriptures are sufficient
29:53for the knowledge of salvation
29:55and for the process of salvation
29:57and to tell us how to get saved.
29:59And Romans chapter 15 verse 4
30:01starts letting us know that.
30:04Then going on to 2 Timothy chapter 3.
30:072 Timothy chapter 3 verses 14 through 17.
30:10But as for you
30:13continue in what you have learned
30:14and have firmly believed
30:16knowing from whom you learned it
30:18and how from childhood
30:19you have been acquainted
30:20with the sacred writings
30:22which are able
30:23to make you wise
30:25for what?
30:27Salvation.
30:28Through faith
30:30in Christ Jesus.
30:33All Scripture
30:33is breathed out by God
30:35and profitable
30:36for teaching,
30:37for reproof,
30:38for correction,
30:39and for training
30:39in righteousness
30:41that the man of God
30:42may be complete,
30:44equipped for every good work.
30:47So this passage
30:48hits directly to the heart
30:50of what we're trying
30:50to get at today.
30:52Is that it's the Scriptures,
30:54the sacred writings
30:55which is able
30:56to make you wise
30:57for salvation.
31:00Not anyone else,
31:01not anyone outside of Scripture,
31:03Scripture itself.
31:05something else.
31:07We looked at,
31:07what was that first one
31:08we looked at?
31:09It was Mormons
31:10from the Book of Mormon
31:12saying that
31:12we can be saved
31:14by coming to Jesus
31:15after we do
31:17all that we can do.
31:19At first glance,
31:20that strikes me
31:21as a works-based salvation.
31:24I don't know about
31:24the rest of you
31:25but that's the way
31:25I interpreted that
31:26after I've read that
31:28not only how many times.
31:30So,
31:31how do works
31:31fit into salvation?
31:32Is any of that true?
31:33Not the way I read it.
31:36From the way I read Scripture,
31:37we are not saved by works.
31:40We're going to look at
31:40Ephesians chapter 2
31:42and start taking a look
31:44at how works
31:45kind of
31:46does or does not
31:49fit in with salvation here.
31:51Ephesians chapter 2
31:53verses 8 and 9.
31:55For by grace
31:57you have been saved
31:58through faith.
32:01And this is not
32:02your own doing.
32:03It is the gift
32:04of God
32:06not
32:06a result of works
32:08so that no one
32:09may boast.
32:11Once again,
32:12hitting on that theme
32:14of faith
32:14and belief
32:15for salvation
32:16and not
32:18of works.
32:20Let's go on
32:21and look in
32:22Galatians chapter 2.
32:24Galatians chapter 2
32:26verse 21.
32:27I do not
32:29nullify the grace
32:31of God
32:31for if righteousness
32:32were through the law
32:34then Christ
32:35died for
32:36no purpose.
32:38And this is something
32:39that a lot of people
32:40get mixed up.
32:41They think that the
32:42Torah,
32:43the law,
32:44used to be back in the
32:45Old Testament
32:45times
32:46the source
32:47and the way
32:48to salvation.
32:50But that's not true.
32:52That's a whole
32:52another teaching
32:53on itself.
32:54Probably a whole series
32:54of teachings.
32:56But the sacrifices
32:58back in the Torah
33:00or what's called
33:00the Tanakh
33:01but especially
33:02the Torah
33:03they weren't all
33:04for sin.
33:05And even this
33:06there were some
33:07that were for
33:07particular feast days
33:09there were some
33:10for gratitude
33:11things like that
33:12for cleansing
33:13and whatnot.
33:14Not all of them
33:15were for sin.
33:16But the sacrifices
33:17that were for sin
33:18were not for
33:19eternity.
33:21They were just
33:21for temporary
33:22cleansing
33:23of the
33:25temple
33:25or the
33:26tabernacle.
33:27And this is
33:28because when we
33:29come into the
33:30tabernacle during
33:30those times
33:31we would be
33:32sinful, right?
33:33We'd be unclean
33:34and we had to
33:34cleanse ourselves
33:35in order to get
33:36close to God.
33:38So that was just
33:39for the temporary
33:40cleansing of the
33:42flesh
33:42not for the
33:44eternal
33:44cleansing of our
33:45soul and our
33:46conscience.
33:47All of those
33:48sacrifices were
33:49looking forward
33:50to Messiah
33:51to Christ.
33:52And only
33:54Christ and
33:54his sacrifice
33:55can cleanse
33:56us eternally
33:57from our
33:57sins in our
33:58soul and in
33:59our conscience.
34:01Like I said,
34:01that's another
34:02thing.
34:04But here in
34:05Galatians and
34:05Ephesians and
34:06et cetera,
34:07et cetera,
34:07Paul is telling
34:08us that it's
34:09not works that
34:10saves us,
34:11it's the
34:11belief,
34:12it's the
34:12faith in
34:14Messiah.
34:16And if you
34:16look through
34:17the scriptures
34:17you'll see that
34:18Paul still kept
34:19the Torah.
34:20He even proved
34:20that he kept
34:21the Torah.
34:22So he had
34:23a respect for
34:25Torah, but he
34:26did not hold
34:26it up as a
34:27requirement for
34:28salvation.
34:29But think about
34:30this, if we
34:31were saved by
34:32keeping the
34:33Torah, here's
34:36some questions
34:36you'd probably
34:36have to ask
34:37yourself.
34:38Number one,
34:39how many other
34:39commandments do
34:40I have to
34:41keep?
34:43The Maimonides
34:44come up with
34:45613 commandments
34:46from the Torah.
34:49If you look at
34:49some of those,
34:49you ask
34:50yourself, how
34:51did he
34:51consider that
34:52a commandment?
34:53But anyways,
34:54let's go with
34:55613.
34:56Out of those
34:56613, certain
34:58of those
35:00commandments were
35:00only for the
35:01priest.
35:03So that cuts
35:03it down.
35:05Certain of those
35:05were only for
35:06women.
35:07Certain of those
35:07were only for
35:08men, etc., etc.
35:10So how many
35:11other commandments
35:11do you have to
35:12keep for salvation
35:13if you had to
35:13keep the Torah?
35:15How long do you
35:16have to keep them?
35:16Is it only from
35:18a certain age
35:18until the age
35:19of retirement?
35:20Or is it all
35:20your life?
35:21How long do you
35:22have to keep
35:22them in order
35:22to grab that
35:23salvation?
35:24Do you have to
35:25keep them
35:25perfectly, or can
35:26you kind of
35:27bend it a little
35:28bit?
35:29Are some more
35:30important than
35:31others?
35:32That's a big
35:32question.
35:33And will God
35:34grade on a
35:35curve if we
35:36had to keep
35:36Torah for
35:37salvation?
35:38Fortunately, we
35:42don't.
35:42We don't have
35:43to ask those
35:43questions.
35:43We don't need
35:44the answers to
35:44them because
35:45Scripture tells
35:46us it's not
35:47about works.
35:48It's about
35:49belief.
35:50It's about
35:50faith.
35:52We are not
35:53saved by works,
35:54but Scripture
35:55also tells us
35:56that works
35:56are important.
35:58Let's go look
35:58at James
35:59chapter 2.
36:01Somebody got
36:02tired fingers.
36:03I'm not hearing
36:03as many page
36:04flips now.
36:06James chapter
36:072,
36:07verses 17
36:09through 26.
36:12So also,
36:13faith by
36:14itself, if it
36:15does not have
36:16works, is
36:17dead.
36:18But someone
36:19will say,
36:20you have
36:20faith, and
36:21I have
36:22works.
36:23Show me your
36:23faith apart
36:24from your
36:24works, and
36:25I will show
36:26you my
36:26faith by
36:27my works.
36:29You believe
36:30that God is
36:30one.
36:31You do
36:31well.
36:33Even the
36:33demons believe
36:34and shudder.
36:35Do you want
36:36to be
36:36shown, you
36:38foolish
36:38person, that
36:39faith apart
36:40from works
36:41is useless?
36:42Was not
36:42Abraham, our
36:43father, justified
36:45by works when
36:46he offered up
36:47his son Isaac
36:47on the altar?
36:49You see that
36:50faith was active
36:51along with his
36:52works, and
36:53faith was
36:53completed by
36:54his works.
36:55And the
36:56scripture was
36:56fulfilled that
36:57says, Abraham
36:58believed God, and
36:59it was counted
36:59to him as
37:01righteousness, and
37:02he was called a
37:04friend of God.
37:05You see that
37:06a person is
37:07justified by
37:08works and
37:09not by faith
37:10alone.
37:11And in the
37:11same way, was
37:12not also Rahab
37:13the prostitute
37:14justified by
37:15works when
37:16she received
37:17the messengers
37:17and sent
37:18them out by
37:19another way?
37:20For as the
37:21body apart from
37:22the spirit is
37:22dead, so
37:23also faith
37:24apart from
37:25works is
37:27dead.
37:27If you are
37:28saved, this is
37:29not a judgment
37:30on your
37:30salvation, but
37:33when I read
37:34from scripture,
37:34if you are
37:35saved and
37:35truly saved, that
37:37will be able to
37:37be seen in
37:38your life.
37:39And how do we
37:40see that in
37:40your life?
37:41By the works
37:41that you
37:42produce, the
37:44works that you
37:44do.
37:45What works?
37:46Good works.
37:46What are good
37:47works?
37:47What God
37:48tells us to
37:48do.
37:49It's not our
37:50own machinations.
37:53And this is
37:54really the heart
37:55of what Paul
37:56got at in
37:57his particular
37:58life as we
37:59see that.
38:00He still did the
38:01Torah and stuff
38:02like that.
38:02That's where
38:02the commandments
38:03of God.
38:04But he also
38:05had faith in
38:06that faith is
38:07what saved him,
38:08not his works.
38:10James is saying
38:10the exact same
38:11thing here.
38:13I mean, think
38:13about it.
38:14When we look at
38:14the life of
38:15Jesus, he was
38:16perfect.
38:17He had faith in
38:18God.
38:19How do we know
38:19it?
38:19Because he did
38:20many miraculous
38:21things.
38:21He was also the
38:22Messiah, the
38:22Son of God.
38:23So let's not
38:23forget all that
38:24too.
38:25But even the
38:25apostles, they did
38:26good works.
38:27We can see their
38:28faith.
38:28We can see their
38:29salvation.
38:30We can also see
38:31it in our
38:31lives.
38:32But these
38:33works are not
38:34required for
38:35salvation.
38:37On the cross, when
38:38Jesus was hanging
38:39up there and the
38:39thief said, please
38:41remember me, I
38:43believe that was a
38:44confession of faith.
38:45He turned to
38:46Jesus, he realized
38:47who Jesus was, and
38:49he came to
38:49salvation.
38:50And what did
38:51Jesus say?
38:51Did he say, get
38:52down from here, go
38:53do some good
38:53works, come back,
38:54and we'll talk
38:55about it later?
38:56He said, no.
38:57He said, I promise
38:58you today, you will
39:00be with me in
39:01paradise.
39:03And I think that
39:04was a statement
39:04from Jesus confirming
39:06that man's salvation
39:07and being saved.
39:09Even though he had
39:11not done good
39:11works, apparently
39:12because he had
39:12been convicted of
39:14crimes enough to
39:15be crucified for
39:16him.
39:17But he changed
39:18his life around,
39:19and he didn't have
39:20a loan to live
39:21after that, but
39:22still, it wasn't
39:22his works that
39:23saved him, it
39:24was his faith.
39:25Going on to the
39:27last book in
39:28Revelation chapter
39:2914.
39:31Revelation chapter
39:3214 and verse
39:3412.
39:36Here is a call
39:37for the endurance
39:38of the saints,
39:39those who keep
39:40the commandments
39:41of God and
39:42their faith
39:44in Jesus.
39:46So keep your
39:48faith.
39:50Keep believing.
39:51Don't lose that.
39:52No matter what
39:53anyone says, no
39:54matter who comes
39:56to you and says
39:57this is the way
39:57of salvation,
39:58and this is
39:58not, discard
40:00that.
40:00Keep your faith
40:01in Jesus, keep
40:01your faith in
40:02the word, and
40:04do good works
40:05so that you
40:06may let your
40:07light shine
40:08before men, as
40:09it says in
40:10scripture.
40:12The faith and
40:13the belief is
40:15the root of
40:16our salvation.
40:17That's what
40:17saves us, not
40:18our works, but
40:19works are
40:19important because
40:21works display
40:23our gratitude
40:24for our
40:25salvation.
40:26it displays
40:27our belief
40:28and our
40:28obedience to
40:29our creator,
40:30to his son,
40:31to the
40:32Messiah.
40:33It makes
40:34the world a
40:34better place
40:35when we do
40:36good works.
40:38And in turn,
40:39those good works
40:40help bring other
40:41people into the
40:42fold, and that's
40:43really what it's
40:43all about, bringing
40:44other people into
40:45salvation so that
40:47more people can
40:48worship God.
40:49obedience and
40:52works, like I
40:53said, is not
40:55the root of our
40:55salvation, but
40:57it is the
40:58fruit of our
41:00salvation.
41:01Jesus said that
41:02a tree is known
41:03by its fruit, and
41:04a tree that does
41:05not produce good
41:06fruit is cut
41:06down.
41:07You shall know
41:08them by their
41:09fruit.
41:11So if someone is
41:13not producing good
41:14fruit, you do not
41:15see that in their
41:15lives, then
41:17probably that tree
41:18is dead.
41:20If it's got good
41:21roots, it's got the
41:22good roots of
41:22salvation, the good
41:23roots of Jesus, it's
41:25going to produce good
41:26fruit, good works.
41:30Walking with God is
41:31like walking on a
41:32well-lit path, and
41:34this is a theme that
41:35is stated directly,
41:39in my opinion, in
41:40scripture in Psalm
41:41chapter 119.
41:43But walking with
41:44God is like walking
41:46on a well-lit path,
41:47path, you do not
41:47have to stumble if
41:48you stay on that
41:49well-lit path, if
41:50you stay on God's
41:51word, unless you
41:53step off of it.
41:54You get off that
41:55well-lit path, you
41:56get off God's
41:57word, then you
41:58stumble, then you
41:59have issues.
42:00So stay in the
42:01light, and your
42:01steps will be firm.
42:04In Psalms chapter
42:05119, in verse
42:07105, and most of
42:10you probably know
42:10this by heart
42:11anyways, but
42:12Psalms chapter
42:14119, verse
42:15105, your word
42:17is a lamp to
42:18my feet, and
42:20a light to
42:21my path.
42:23So how do we
42:24know which
42:24direction to go
42:25in life?
42:26When we examine
42:27this situation, or
42:28have this decision
42:28to make, it's by
42:30scriptures.
42:33And then
42:33finally, let's
42:34look in Proverbs
42:35chapter 6.
42:36Proverbs
42:38chapter 6, verse
42:3923, for the
42:41commandment is a
42:42lamp, and the
42:43teaching a light, and
42:44the reproofs of
42:45discipline are the
42:46way of life.
42:50So we can say on
42:51the well-lit path,
42:53God Almighty has
42:54given us that
42:55well-lit path
42:56through his word.
42:57We know what to
42:59do if we just get
43:00in and we read it,
43:01we study it, we
43:03look for ourselves,
43:03we learn from
43:05the word of
43:06God.
43:06We don't go to
43:07other organizations.
43:09We don't go to
43:09the Book of Mormon,
43:10which was written
43:11almost 2,000 years
43:12after Messiah.
43:15We don't go to
43:15Jehovah's Witnesses.
43:16We don't even go to
43:17the Catholic Church,
43:18which has been
43:19around since I
43:20don't even know
43:21exactly when.
43:22Like I said, I
43:22think it's 325, but
43:24that's open for
43:25debate.
43:26We don't go to
43:26anyone else.
43:27We don't go to
43:27anywhere else except
43:29the word of God.
43:30The word of God
43:31is sufficient.
43:34It is perfect
43:35in its original
43:37authorship.
43:39We can get into
43:39all the translations
43:40and stuff like that,
43:40but it is perfect
43:42and it is suitable
43:44for teaching us
43:45what salvation is
43:46to show us that
43:47light on that path,
43:49how to go,
43:51how to be saved,
43:52how to retain
43:53salvation,
43:54all that good stuff.
43:55So we just go to
43:57Scripture.
43:57We don't go to
43:58anyone else's
43:58opinion about
44:00what salvation is
44:01or how to get
44:01salvation.
44:02So, in summary,
44:05let's wrap up and
44:06look at what we
44:07have covered today.
44:09Number one,
44:09various groups and
44:11various people have
44:11their own ideas
44:12about what salvation
44:13is.
44:15Don't look to that,
44:16only look to
44:17Scripture.
44:19We saw in Scripture
44:20that we obtain
44:20salvation by what?
44:23Think about this.
44:24The one thing I told
44:25you to remember
44:25out of all this
44:27is Romans chapter
44:2810, verses 9
44:29and 10,
44:30that if we confess
44:32with our mouth
44:32that Jesus is Lord
44:34and believe
44:36in our heart
44:37that God raised
44:39Him from the dead,
44:40we will be saved.
44:42For with the heart
44:43one believes
44:44and is justified,
44:45and with the mouth
44:46one confesses
44:47and is saved.
44:49That's the words
44:50of Scripture.
44:52Not membership
44:53in anywhere else.
44:54We don't have to
44:54add all these things
44:55to the requirements
44:57for salvation.
44:59We have it right here.
45:00It's believe
45:01that God raised
45:02Him from the dead
45:02and confess with
45:03your mouth
45:03that He is Christ.
45:06It's by belief
45:07that we are saved
45:08by grace
45:09through faith.
45:10We are not
45:11saved by works,
45:12but works
45:14are important.
45:15Christ is the one
45:18who will judge
45:19our salvation
45:20on the last day.
45:22Not anyone else,
45:24not someone
45:25in the pews,
45:26not someone
45:27in the pulpit,
45:28not someone
45:28on TV,
45:29not someone
45:29writing a book,
45:30and it doesn't matter
45:31how many degrees
45:32they have,
45:34it doesn't matter
45:34which seminary
45:35or college
45:36they went to,
45:37they still do not
45:37have the authority
45:38to judge
45:39your salvation.
45:42Lots of
45:42smart people
45:43out there,
45:44lots of people
45:45with higher
45:46education,
45:46lots of people
45:47with multiple
45:48degrees who have
45:49spent their whole
45:50life in a
45:52particular field.
45:53That doesn't make
45:54them right,
45:54and it certainly
45:55does not give
45:56them the authority
45:56to judge
45:57your salvation.
45:58That only
45:59goes to
46:00Jesus.
46:03And finally,
46:03the scriptures
46:04are sufficient
46:05for the knowledge
46:05of salvation
46:06and how to
46:07get saved.
46:09It's,
46:10trust me,
46:11I've been there
46:11before.
46:12People will
46:13question your
46:13salvation because
46:14you don't
46:16completely go
46:16with what
46:17they think,
46:18with their
46:19doctrines,
46:19their beliefs.
46:21And beliefs
46:22vary a lot.
46:24We saw that
46:25with various
46:25groups that we
46:26examined today.
46:27There are other
46:27groups out there.
46:28Even within this
46:29group right here,
46:31there are varying
46:31beliefs about
46:33different subjects.
46:35And there's lots
46:36of subjects that we
46:36can disagree on
46:37and still come
46:38together as
46:39brothers and
46:39sisters and
46:40Messiah.
46:40It doesn't mean
46:41that one's saved
46:42and the other
46:42one's not
46:42saved.
46:44We can still
46:45disagree on
46:46certain subjects
46:47and still be
46:48saved all the
46:49same, both of
46:50us.
46:51It's only Christ
46:52who knows our
46:53heart.
46:54Like I said,
46:55in Romans
46:55chapter 10,
46:55it says,
46:56believe in your
46:57heart that God
46:59raised them from
47:00the dead.
47:00I can't see any
47:01of your hearts.
47:02I don't know
47:03from my
47:04perspective whether
47:04you do or you
47:05don't believe in
47:06your heart.
47:08Jesus does.
47:09He has the
47:10authority to
47:11judge that.
47:12Not me,
47:13not anyone here,
47:14not anyone with
47:15a Pope hat on,
47:16not anyone in
47:17the Mormon temple,
47:19no one else.
47:20Just Jesus.
47:22So be confident
47:22in your salvation
47:23when you go out
47:25and like Nathan
47:26said last week,
47:27if you're rejected,
47:28hey, that's fine.
47:29Jesus said,
47:30shake the dust
47:30off your feet,
47:31right, when you
47:31leave that place.
47:32That does not
47:33affect your salvation
47:34just because you're
47:34rejected.
47:35You go out and
47:36start talking to
47:36people in the
47:37community and they
47:38get in your face
47:39or someone
47:40dressed nicely
47:42comes down
47:42your driveway
47:43to the house
47:44and says,
47:44may I talk to
47:45you about
47:45Jehovah?
47:46Okay, well,
47:48that's not going
47:48to affect my
47:49salvation any
47:50because I know
47:51what salvation
47:52is.
47:52It comes straight
47:52from Scripture.
47:55So as the
47:57musical team
47:59gets ready,
48:00I'll give you
48:02this final charge.
48:04Now, salvation
48:05is a gift,
48:07but it's not
48:08cheap.
48:09It costs
48:10the blood
48:10of Jesus.
48:12It costs
48:13him his
48:13entire life,
48:15in fact.
48:16And that's
48:17how we're
48:17able to have
48:18salvation now.
48:19If you have
48:20truly received
48:20it, it will
48:21change your
48:22life.
48:23Just about
48:23everyone out
48:24there can
48:24attest to
48:25that fact.
48:26So walk
48:27worthy, walk
48:28holy, walk
48:29steadfast until
48:30the end, and
48:30walk confidently
48:31knowing that it's
48:33not other humans
48:34that determine
48:34your salvation.
48:36It's only Jesus
48:36who gets to
48:37judge your
48:38salvation.
48:39Rather, it is
48:40God who is the
48:41ultimate source of
48:42our salvation, and
48:43Jesus who is the
48:44only judge of our
48:45salvation.
48:46So be always
48:47confident in your
48:47salvation, and do
48:49not allow others
48:50to disturb your
48:52faith.
48:52And if anyone out
48:56there still has
48:58doubt about your
48:59salvation, please
49:00feel free to come
49:01talk to me, or
49:02get up with Nathan
49:03when he comes
49:03back, or if you
49:05have not yet come
49:06to salvation, then
49:07come talk to us.
49:08We'll be happy to
49:09have a discussion
49:11with you.
