Transcript
00:00Gentle lady yields back. The chair recognizes Mr. Ogles from the state of Tennessee for five minutes.
00:07Thank you, Mr. Chairman. I'd like to enter into the record for unanimous consent.
00:11A news story by News Nation, updated on June 7, 2023, by Mr. Ventura and Mr. Markham,
00:18talking about the NGOs using tax dollars to relocate migrants. And quite frankly...
00:25Without objection to the document we entered into the record.
00:27Thank you, Mr. Chairman. And when you look at their track record and some statistics, I'll quote,
00:32and most of this can be directed at you, Ms. Hopper, but to the other two witnesses, feel free to chime in.
00:37We'll just have an open dialogue.
00:39Is they were clearly putting profit over the safety of these children.
00:44And my colleagues on the other side have spent most of the day disrupting this hearing,
00:50stalling this hearing with procedural votes.
00:53Meanwhile, we have 325,000 children that are unaccounted for.
00:57We have 65,000 calls of concern that went unanswered.
01:01And yet, all they want to talk about is Trump and Elon Musk.
01:05Some tweet has since been redacted.
01:08I mean, it's nonsense.
01:09And by the way, you know, one of my colleagues mentioned religion, religion,
01:13you know, saying that, you know, we over here are righteous.
01:16And yet, I do believe if you look at the context of this hearing,
01:19they're the ones that are quoting the Pope and the Catholic bishops and all the other stuff.
01:22But meanwhile, I want to talk about the children.
01:25How do we find these 300,000 kids?
01:28How many of them are being sexually abused right now?
01:31I think in your testimony, 70% or one of your testimony,
01:3570% of the records revolving children were falsified.
01:4080% of the women coming into an El Paso shelter were sexually assaulted.
01:46Where's the outrage on the other side, folks?
01:48That's what this is about.
01:51There should be a nonpartisan committee.
01:54We're talking about the safety of the homeland.
01:57We're talking about 300,000 children that right now could be being raped systematically and trafficked.
02:03And they want to talk about the boogeyman.
02:06I want to talk about the boogeyman, too.
02:07I want to talk about all the predators and the gangbangers and the murderers that were allowed into this country.
02:13Just in Nashville, the ICE raid, where they arrested murderers, rapists, traffickers, child traffickers.
02:21That's who they're protecting.
02:24Let's talk about these 300,000 kids.
02:27How do we find them?
02:28How do we undo this mess?
02:30And oh, by the way, the idea that none of these folks are criminals.
02:33If you came into this country on false pretense, that is a crime.
02:37They're not migrants.
02:41They're illegal immigrants.
02:43And they're breaking our laws.
02:45And I've had enough of this crap.
02:47Let's talk about the facts.
02:49The facts around this hearing and these children.
02:51Ms. Hopper.
02:54There needs to be complete coordination with the state and local agencies.
02:59They know that UACs were sent to their specific districts, their counties.
03:04There's a database on the ORR website specifically outlining how many UACs were sent to certain counties and cities across all 50 states.
03:15And so with the help of the local, state, and federal agencies, that would be a good place to start.
03:22But a lot of these state agencies are stonewalling and blocking our efforts because they want to protect illegal aliens over finding unaccompanied children.
03:34Mr. Howell.
03:35One of the best ways to find these children is to dramatically ramp up worksite enforcement by ICE.
03:40A lot of these kids are working in factory farms, weed farms, all across the country.
03:46And until ICE begins increasing their activities there, I don't think we will find a lot of these missing kids.
03:52Mr. Ross.
03:52Congressman, what I'll say, I mean, I'll echo that.
03:55They came here because they wanted to work, obviously, in horrible conditions.
03:59And what I'll say and what I'll address is that it's false to say that these raids that are happening are not targeting the worst of the worst.
04:06I was with Border Patrol in Los Angeles County just recently, and they did an operation at a Home Depot, and they found a convicted pedophile because he's there looking for work.
04:16And those are the people that they want to hire to bring them into their homes around their families.
04:20It doesn't work that way.
04:21So, I would concur that worksite operations need to increase, not decrease by any stretch.
04:28Mr. Chairman, you know, I thank you for the importance of this hearing, the topic.
04:32I thank you to the witnesses.
04:34But as we look at the systematic trafficking that we've seen across this country, Ms. Hopper, you're an expert on this.
04:39When you look at the distribution networks that the cartels have into our country, a distribution network, by the way, that would rival FedEx or, you know, the United Postal Service,
04:49and their ability to move product, and for them, product is human trafficking.
04:54Product is kids and women.
04:56And so, with that, I yield back.
04:58The gentleman yields back.
04:59The chair recognizes the gentleman from Puerto Rico, Mr. Hernandez.
05:02Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
05:03I would like to just briefly raise my voice in favor of NGOs and the service they provided.
05:08As a law student, I worked with NGOs dedicated to immigrants, but not just to make sure that they could normalize their immigration status.
05:20I worked with immigrants on behalf of a cause that I think all Republicans support.
05:26I worked with immigrants to help them assimilate to United States culture and identity.
05:30I helped them study for their U.S. citizenship exams.
05:33And I could see their hope, their commitment.
05:38I would even say they were more patriotic and committed to this nation than many people who are born and raised here.
05:46I worked with NGOs to help victims of domestic violence who fled their home countries with their children,
05:53fleeing from terrible, terrible, terrible life circumstances,
05:59and people who found hope and security in this nation.
06:04And people that I was proud to see this nation welcome to provide them safety and security in a brighter future.
06:11So, I really profoundly regret to see this Congress, to see this committee,
06:16attack NGOs so broadly under a false pretext that this is really to protect the people.
06:23We are attacking people.
06:25We are attacking institutions that help people.
06:27And I want to make sure that history reflects the side that we, the Democratic Caucus,
06:33this side of the aisle, stand on today.
06:35Thank you, and I yield back.
06:37Mr. Chairman.
06:39I'm sorry, who wants to be recognized?
06:41Crane from Arizona.
06:43Ms. Crane.
06:45Request to enter into the record from Oversight Project Article Tracking Movement of Illegal Aliens from NGOs to the U.S. Interior.
06:54Without objection, we shall be admitted into the record.
06:56Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
06:57Mr. Thompson.
06:58Mr. Thompson.
06:58Mr. Thompson.
06:58Mr. Thompson.
