Andy Ogles Calls Nashville Mayor ‘Woke Activist’ Who Encouraged Harboring ‘Illegal Criminals’

Amid a national ICE crackdown, Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) called out Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell, who is under federal investigation over his actions related to deportation efforts. Ogles joined "Forbes Newsroom" to discuss.

00:06that he posted that you t

00:11previous administration.

00:14that executive order to

00:16timeline regarding immigr

00:19from three days to one da

00:22He's saying, hey, you kno

00:24past administration? Well

00:28woke activists. And so, uh,

00:30he is on the wrong side of

00:31this conversation. His, he

00:33and his office have received a

00:35wave of backlash. And so now

00:38they're trying to CYA and try

00:40to, uh, cover their tails and

00:42make light of this situation.

00:43But look, the end of the day,

00:45he was encouraging individuals

00:46to harbor illegal criminals who

00:48are in this country. And I'm

00:49not going to stand for it. The

00:51people of Nashville don't want

00:52it. And the support that I've

00:54received, my office has received,

00:56uh, and quite frankly, attention

00:57from around the country is

00:59saying, thank you for doing

01:01what you're doing because

01:02enough is enough. And look, if

01:04you go back to the previous

01:05administration, uh, the Biden

01:07administration allowed this

01:08country to be invaded by

01:10illegal immigrants. And look,

01:11I understand, I understand that

01:13people want to come here to

01:14have a better life to, they

01:16want a better future for their

01:17children or their future

01:18children. Uh, but that being

01:20said, you've got to do it the

01:21legal way. And unfortunately we

01:23have a class of citizens in this

01:25country who are here illegally,

01:26uh, many of which don't have

01:27social security numbers, which

01:29makes them a target. They're

01:31they're preyed upon. They get,

01:32uh, you know, uh, lesser wages,

01:34lesser living conditions, and

01:36they become victims of their,

01:38their status. And so we've got

01:39to fix this part of it, securing

01:41the border part of its

01:43deportations. And of course,

01:45those people that are here

01:46illegally, what do you do with

01:47them? That's a conversation for

01:49another day. But let me be

01:50clear, no amnesty.

01:52I know that you want the house

01:54judiciary and homeland security

01:56committees to investigate

01:57this mayor. Have they been

01:59receptive to that call? What

02:00are those conversations

02:01looking like? Yeah, the, uh,

02:03we will actually be releasing

02:04the letter today. Uh, if it

02:06hasn't already gone out, um,

02:08initiating an investigation of

02:09the mayor and the city of

02:10Nashville. Uh, soon as I have

02:12that letter in my hand, we'll

02:13send it over to you. And then

02:15what does that timeline look like?

02:16I mean, realistically for you,

02:18what would you want to see? Well,

02:20so the, the, the, the, the way

02:22this is initiated is my request.

02:24I've worked with the chairman of,

02:25uh, homeland and, uh, judiciary,

02:28which is chairman green and

02:30chairman Jordan. And the, the

02:32initial stage is fact finding.

02:33We'll take a look at the

02:34evidence from there and then

02:36we'll see if we need to have

02:37hearings and so forth and so on.

02:39But the end of the day, we'll

02:40go into this eyes wide open. Uh,

02:42we'll follow the facts and quite

02:44frankly, it may become that this

02:45is larger in Nash than just

02:47Nashville, where we're bringing in

02:49mayors from other cities who are

02:50behaving in this similar fashion

02:52to uncover how cities, blue

02:55cities, woke cities are

02:56undermining the Trump

02:57administration and whether or

02:58not crimes are being committed.

03:00But we're not going to draw,

03:01you know, draw any pre

03:02conclusions. What we're going to

03:03do is, uh, follow the facts.

03:05And that being said, as far as

03:07timeline goes to be determined,

03:08but the letter is forthcoming.

03:10I am not going to drop this.

03:11And by the way, Senator

03:12Marsha Blackburn in the Senate is

03:14doing something similar and

03:16calling for an investigation of

03:17mayors, blue, uh, blue city mayors.
