00:00Hi everyone. Last night we were at the Capitol unexpectedly again until after midnight because
00:06as you guys know the Republicans love to have these votes in the dead of night so that people
00:13hopefully miss all of the shitty things that they're doing. This time they decided to vote
00:19to cut funding for PBS and NPR which are obviously vital sources of news and information
00:26and alerts for my constituents and for Americans across the country. They don't want you to have
00:31that information and what they did was vote to cut this funding billions of dollars that was
00:37already approved by Congress. I really want to talk about the alarming authoritarian nature of how
00:48Republicans under the Trump regime are operating in terms of their attacks on the press. They've
00:54consistently been attacking the press. We know that Donald Trump is always going after journalists
01:01and outlets calling things fake news of course. Now they are defunding vital sources of objective
01:08non-partisan information via NPR and PBS. This is also the same week that Stephen Colbert was
01:17fired or his show was canceled late night with Colbert. Coincidentally after the parent
01:24company settled a massive lawsuit with Trump. This is extremely dangerous when you have,
01:33when you look at history and authoritarian, I think about this a lot because my parents fled an
01:37authoritarian regime decades ago. That's how they ended up in the United States and it is very much along
01:47the lines of what's happened in other countries when a government starts going after the press and they
01:54they go after universities, they go after citizens, they go after any sort of object, you know,
02:02civil society, let's say. I had a hearing this week with, in the Homeland Security Committee,
02:10Republicans were going after non-profit organizations like the International Rescue Committee and Catholic
02:14charities. So just want to call attention to this because this is what authoritarianism looks like.
02:21So that happened last night. The other big theme of this week is the massive cover-up of the Epstein
02:28files. We know Donald Trump is trying to completely distract from this issue. Suddenly he like he obviously
02:35called all of his supporters, he called them stupid and weaklings. Says it's crazy that anyone's even still
02:42talking about Epstein. So a massive cover-up is underway in that regard. There's a bipartisan resolution
02:50in Congress calling for the immediate release of the entire Epstein files and and demanding that there
02:58be justice for the crimes and there be accountability for the crimes. So and and Republicans are
03:06we're hearing a lot about how they are um they hate that this is happening and and only still only like
03:13nine or ten have signed on to the resolution. So anyways another long week, grueling week. Just wanted to
03:20keep you guys in the loop of what has been happening here. So we'll keep you posted and um thanks for
03:26everything that all of you are doing to fight back and um not give in to the authoritarian trump administration.
