Transcript
00:00Hi folks, just a bit more context really on the quotes in which Matt Sadler made about player sales
00:07and the fact that he feels Walsall are in a strong position to combat that both now and in the future.
00:14Obviously the most notable departure this summer was Taylor Allen, the star man from the previous campaign
00:21and remarkable breakthrough at Walsall over the past 18 months.
00:2311 goals and 8 assists in all competitions for the Sadlers last term, scooped a hat-trick of awards at the end of season ceremony
00:32and he opted for Pastures New with a step up to the division above with Wiccan Wanderers.
00:40Ryan Sterk and Liam Gordon also left the club after rejecting new deals and when I kind of put that question to Matt Sadler
00:48his response was that every club is a selling club.
00:50There's maybe only five or six in the country who can be classed as an exception
00:55and when I also then asked him how he goes about combating that
01:00he feels that Walsall's recruitment and the identity in which he's attempted
01:05and really in many ways successfully installed into the club
01:10will safeguard them from departures in the future in terms of finding equally effective replacements
01:18and I guess, you know, it remains to be seen how effective those replacements are
01:23in terms of the signings of Harrison Burke, Mason Hancock, Courtney Clarke, Aaron Presley
01:29but, you know, in the fact that they've been signed on long-term deals
01:34it looks as if the club are making real strides in terms of trying to build for the long-term future
01:40you know, either they have those players for a long-term period of time
01:44and they contribute on the pitch or if they are to be a success in Vulture's circle
01:49then with the fact that they're under contract Walsall will be protected financially
01:54and yeah, it just really talks about increasing that conveyor belt of talent
01:59and building on the reputation in which they've developed of
02:03yeah, developing and nurturing young talent essentially
02:06you know, we saw last season with Conor Barrett, Jamie Jealous
02:09and Harry Williams among others
02:12and just feel, yeah, you know, just to sort of finish on another quote
02:16that Matt Sadler mentioned in that piece is that, you know
02:19it doesn't matter if one or two a season leave
02:21then it's the next one that comes onto that list
02:23and, you know, that'll very much be the case for someone like Evan Weir next season
02:28you know, Taylor Allen, big shoes to fill
02:30but it's Evan Weir's opportunity now, signed from Drogheda United 18 months ago
02:35to step up and seize his chance in the team
02:38and yeah, I mean, that's really the story in a nutshell
02:43and Sadler hopes that that approach will be, you know
02:46hugely beneficial for Walsall going forward
02:49yeah, I mean, that's really the story in a nutshell
