00:00Welcome to another episode of the Epic Storyteller.
00:03Today we are going to tell the fantasy epic story of the Great Hunt.
00:07Do you want to be the first to hear our new stories?
00:09Then follow us so you don't miss out again. Here goes.
00:12Once upon a time in the 13th century, King Onean of Ireland died,
00:16and his son, the future king, Brian Beru, was only four years old at the time.
00:21And so his uncle, the High King of Ireland,
00:23took over the rule until Brian was old enough to take over himself.
00:27Unfortunately, it didn't take long for that treacherous uncle of his
00:30to become hugely unpopular.
00:33The High King imposed extremely heavy taxes on the population
00:36and also wanted to replace the old.
00:39Irish gods with the Christian god.
00:42He even built churches wherever he went to convert the people.
00:45But his reign wasn't as successful as he had hoped.
00:48And when Brian Beru reached the age of majority,
00:51the people welcomed him as a liberator,
00:52and he quickly got to work on doing all the changes his uncle had made.
00:57He lifted the taxes and restored the old religion.
01:01However, not everyone was happy about this.
01:04The clergy and some nobles who had profited from the High King S. rule
01:08felt they had lost their power and influence.
01:11They hated Brian Beru for it.
01:13They were now known as the Ostman,
01:15and they would later play a key role in the story.
01:18Now when Brian Beru became king,
01:21he began preparing for war.
01:23He assembled an elite military force consisting of
01:2620,000 men, which he called Brian's Beru,
01:30and then he set off to conquer the province of Munster.
01:33Soon he had defeated the kings who ruled there
01:35and made himself king of all Ireland.
01:37Now finally he could call himself the High King of Ireland.
01:41But unfortunately his reign was anything but peaceful.
01:44First, there was the small matter of those discontented Ostmen
01:48who wanted revenge for the loss of their ill-gotten gains.
01:51Then there were the Vikings who had settled along the Irish coast centuries ago
01:56and who still posed a threat to the mainland.
01:58And then there were the Scots who lived across the sea
02:01and who tried to claim all of Ireland for themselves.
02:04However, Brian Beru was up for the challenge.
02:07He spent most of his reign campaigning against the Scots
02:11and winning great victories against them,
02:13chased them all the way north and even managed to take back the province of Ulster from them.
02:17Even the Vikings couldn't withstand Brian Beru's elite army
02:20and soon surrendered to him as well.
02:22All of Ireland was now under one ruler again for the first time in centuries.
02:28Brian Beru proved to be such a good king
02:30that his subjects even erected stone monuments in his honor,
02:34which can still be seen today.
02:36As he grew older, he decided to hand the rule of Ireland over to his sons
02:40and live out the rest of his days in peace.
02:43So he thought.
02:43You see, there was still one last threat to his kingdom, the Oastman.
02:48When Brian Beru had become king, he had spared their lives,
02:52but that didn't stop them from plotting against him.
02:55Now that he was getting old and ready to retire,
02:57they thought it was time for revenge.
03:00The Oastman sent messengers to the Scottish and Viking kings,
03:03begging them to come and attack the weakened Ireland.
03:06The Scottish king accepted this request,
03:09but he demanded half of Ireland in exchange for his help.
03:12The Oastman agreed,
03:14not realizing that they had just condemned themselves.
03:17As soon as the Scottish army landed in Ireland,
03:19Brian Beru called for arms.
03:21At first, the Scots gave the Irish a hard time,
03:24but in the end, Brian Beru managed to defeat them again.
03:28The Irish king had proven himself victorious yet again.
03:32But victory turned to tragedy
03:33when Brian Beru was struck down by a mysterious illness.
03:37It seemed as if the gods themselves had forsaken him.
03:40As he lay dying,
03:42he handed the rule of Ireland over to his sons
03:44and told them to avenge his death.
03:47The three brothers were horrified
03:49by what had happened to their father,
03:50but they knew that they had to accept his challenge.
03:53They gathered the troops
03:55and marched out to meet the enemy.
03:57The three brothers, each with their own elite guard,
04:00rode at the head of the column,
04:02looking fierce and determined.
04:04Their first task was to find the root of the evil
04:07that had befallen their father.
04:09They followed the trail of destruction left by the Scots
04:11and found that their main camp
04:13was in the center of the country.
04:15This was where the Osemen had invited the enemy,
04:18and now Brian Beru's sons
04:19would have to defeat them here.
04:22When the brothers arrived at the camp,
04:24they were shocked by what they saw.
04:26There were tents as far as the eye could see,
04:28and thousands of soldiers were training
04:30and preparing for battle.
04:31The brothers knew they had their work cut out for them,
04:33but they were determined to succeed.
04:35The eldest brother, the future king Donshud,
04:38led the charge,
04:40his sword flashing in the sunlight
04:41as he cut down enemy after enemy.
04:44His two younger brothers,
04:45the future kings Dermade and Toyerdalbach,
04:47were right beside him,
04:49fighting bravely and protecting their father's honor.
04:52It was a hard-fought battle,
04:53but in the end, the Irish prevailed.
04:56The Osemen were defeated and fled into the forest,
04:59never to be seen again.
04:59With their enemies scattered,
05:02the three brothers returned home,
05:04hailed as heroes by their people.
05:06But their victory was short-lived.
05:07The other kings who had been defeated by Brian Beru years before
05:10were licking their wounds and planning their revenge.
05:13They had waited patiently for their chance to strike back,
05:16and now they thought the time was right.
05:18They attacked Ireland from all sides,
05:21hoping to take advantage of the change in leadership.
05:23But the three brothers were ready for them.
05:26They had learned from their father how to be good kings
05:29and how to lead their people to victory.
05:32One by one, they defeated the invaders,
05:35pushing them back across the sea
05:36and reclaiming all of Ireland for their people.
05:40The three brothers had proven themselves
05:41to be worthy successors to their father's legacy,
05:44bringing peace and prosperity to the land once more.
05:48And so the era of the three brothers began.
05:51People of Ireland lived in peace and prosperity
05:53during their reign.
05:54The economy flourished, and the arts and culture thrived.
05:57It was a golden age for the country,
05:59and many stories and songs were written
06:01about the bravery of the three brothers.
06:03But their reign was not without its challenges.
06:06There were always those who envied the power and glory
06:08of the Beru dynasty and plotted to bring them down.
06:12However, the brothers were able to overcome
06:14all of these obstacles and secure their place in Irish legend.
06:18When the three brothers finally passed away,
06:20they left behind a legacy that would last for generations.
06:23Their deeds of valor and their commitment to justice and fairness
06:26became a source of inspiration for the Irish people,
06:30and their memory was revered for centuries to come.
06:33The story of the three brothers is one of courage,
06:36loyalty, and justice.
06:38It is a story that has captured the imagination
06:40of the Irish people and has become an integral part
06:43of their cultural heritage.
06:45The brothers are remembered as true heroes,
06:47and their story continues to be told and retold
06:50long after they are gone.
