Donald Trump is back on the India-Pakistan war story - this time doubling down that his trade ultimatum stopped a nuclear showdown following the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack. Claiming five jets were shot down during the intense hostilities, Trump credits his trade pressure for brokering peace between two serious nuclear neighbors.

00:00You had India, Pakistan that was going and in fact, planes were being shot out of the air.
00:06Five, four or five, but I think five jets were shot down actually in two serious nuclear countries.
00:14And they were hitting each other.
00:17There seems to be a hit and then another hit, a hit and another hit.
00:20India and Pakistan were going at it and they were back and forth and it was getting bigger and bigger.
00:26And we got it, we got it solved through trade.
00:28It's both very powerful nuclear states, something I'm very proud of.
00:34We stopped a lot of wars, a lot of wars.
00:37And these were serious, serious wars that would have been going on right now.
00:42You had India, Pakistan that was going and in fact, planes were being shot out of the air.
00:48Five, five, four or five, but I think five jets were shot down actually.
00:52And Lindsay, that was getting worse and worse, wasn't it?
00:55That was looking like it was going to go.
00:57So these are two serious nuclear countries and they were hitting each other.
01:04You know, it seems like a new form of warfare.
01:05You saw it recently when you looked at what we did in Iran, where we knocked out the nuclear capability, totally knocked out.
01:13That is going to be gone for a long time.
01:15But there seems, there seems to be a hit and then another hit, a hit and another hit.
01:22It's a different thing.
01:23But India and Pakistan were going at it and they were back and forth and it was getting bigger and bigger.
01:29And we got it, we got it solved through trade.
01:32We said, you guys want to make a trade deal.
01:33We're not making a trade deal if you're going to be throwing around weapons and maybe nuclear weapons, both very powerful nuclear states.
01:42We did the Congo.
01:44This was going on for over 30 years.
01:47The Congo and Rwanda and close to seven million people were really violently killed.
01:54This was a rough, a rough one, but going on over 30 years and we had the various representatives here last week.
02:02The presidents will be coming to sign final documents, but we got that one solved.
02:07Armenia and Azerbaijan, we worked magic there and it's pretty close.
02:15If not, it's already done.
02:17And Gaza, we got most of the hostages back.
02:22We're going to have another 10 coming very shortly.
02:26And we hope to have that finished pretty quickly.
02:29And Steve Whitcoff has been fantastic.
02:32He's done a great job in that.
02:33He's a very good man, good dealmaker.
02:37I said, I need a good dealmaker with a good personality.
02:40And there aren't too many of them, but Steve is.
02:43And he's done a great job.
02:44Serbia, Kosovo, they were going at it.
02:46They've gone at it for years, I guess for centuries, but they've gone at it for years.
02:50And we got that one taken care of in Egypt and Ethiopia.
02:55As you know, they've been fighting over the dam.
02:57Ethiopia built a dam with United States money, largely.
03:01It's one of the largest dams in the world.
03:03And it has one little problem.
03:04It doesn't allow much water going into the Nile River.
03:07So you can imagine Egypt's not thrilled because they live off the Nile River.
03:13The Nile River, it's blood, it's heart, it's everything.
03:17And we think we have that one pretty well taken care of.
03:21But that was a pretty bad thing.
03:24I was watching this as it was going up.
03:27I get pictures and satellites and everything.
03:29And I'm looking at this massive dam and I'm saying,
03:32is that going to be blocking the water to the Nile?
03:36And anyway, that should have never sort of happened the way it happened.
