In a fiery rebuke of America’s European allies, President Donald Trump unleashed a scathing critique of the European Union, calling it “worse than China” when it comes to trade. Speaking at a campaign-style event, Trump accused the EU of exploiting the United States through unfair trade practices and warned that a reckoning is coming. Declaring “we’ve got all the cards,” Trump promised swift and decisive action if re-elected, including potential tariffs and trade barriers aimed at forcing better terms.

00:00I see that. I see that with trade too. European Union is in many ways nastier than China.
00:06So that you go 10 times more expensive for the same drug, that's big numbers.
00:11Even though the United States is home to only 4% of the world's population,
00:16pharmaceutical companies make more than two-thirds of their profits in America.
00:20So think of that. With 4% of the population, the pharmaceutical companies make most of their money,
00:26most of their profits from America. That's not a good thing.
00:32Now, I think, by the way, pharmaceutical, I have great respect for these companies and for the people that run them.
00:37I really do. And I think they did one of the greatest jobs in history for their company,
00:43convincing people for many years that this was a fair system.
00:47Nobody really understood why, but I figured it out.
00:52But for years, pharmaceutical and drug companies have said that research and development costs were what they are.
00:59And for no reason whatsoever, they had to be borne by America alone.
01:06Not anymore, they don't.
01:08This means American patients were effectively subsidizing socialist health care systems in Germany,
01:15in all parts of the European Union.
01:19They were the toughest of all. They were nasty.
01:22And I see that. I see that with trade, too.
01:24The European Union is, in many ways, nastier than China.
01:29Okay?
01:30And we've just started with them.
01:34Oh, they'll come down a lot. You watch.
01:37We have all the cards.
01:38They treated us very unfairly.
01:41They sell us 13 million cards.
01:43We sell them none.
01:44And they sell us their agricultural products.
01:50We sell them virtually none.
01:52They don't take our products.
01:55That gives us all the cards.
01:57And very unfair.
01:59So they're going to have to pay more for health care, and we're going to have to pay less.
02:02That's all it is.
02:03Believe it or not, you know, because it's really the world we're talking about, not just the European Union.
02:07But because it's the world, the numbers are, for the health care company, not as bad as you would think.
02:15They'll make the same.
02:16I think the health care companies should make pretty much the same money.
02:20I really don't believe they should be affected very much, because it's just a redistribution of wealth.
02:26It's a redistribution where it could be the same top line, but it's going to be distributed differently.
02:31Obviously, Europe's going to have to pay a little bit more.
02:34The rest of the world's going to have to pay a little bit more, and America's going to pay a lot less.
02:38Again, because it's a much smaller population than when you think of the whole world.
02:44So, basically, what we're doing is equalizing.
02:49There's a new word that I came up with, which I think is probably the best word.
02:52We're going to equalize.
02:53We're all going to pay the same.
02:55We're going to pay what Europe's going to pay.
02:57We're going to all pay.
02:57Now, there may be some countries in dire need, and I would be willing to sacrifice that and help them.
03:06But it's called Most Favored Nation.
03:08We are going to pay the lowest price there is in the world.
