Now it happened as they journeyed on the road, that someone said to Him, “Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.”
And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”
Then He said to another, “Follow Me.”
But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”
Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God.”
And another also said, “Lord, I will follow You, but let me first go and bid them farewell who are at my house.”
But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Luke 9:57-62

00:00What we can change is our response to all of this and what's going on inside our lives
00:05which is where the issue of discipleship comes in and the thoughts we're going to share tonight
00:10from the book of Philippians. We can also change what's going to happen in other people's lives
00:15by telling them the gospel and giving the opportunity to make a choice for Jesus or to
00:22reject him. That's up to them but our job is to warn them and to tell them the fact that Jesus
00:26is the saviour, is the answer and that Jesus is coming again and that he's the one who can put
00:31things right. And in some ways the message of the second coming actually is a message which
00:36highlights the division between the lost and the saved. People who are on God's side and people
00:43who are not. People who are saved and people who are not saved. Book of Acts chapter 17, Paul preaching
00:50in Athens, he said the times of ignorance got overlooked but now he commands all men everywhere
00:56to repent because he is appointed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by the
01:01man whom he has ordained. Given us assurance of this by raising him from the dead. So the message
01:08of the second coming actually speaks about a time of judgment coming and the judgment is going to come
01:14through Jesus and it's going to be in some way related to our response to the message of the gospel
01:20that Jesus died and rose from the dead. So our responsibility is to tell people the way of
01:25salvation so that they can come to the right points, repent, believe the gospel and be saved, ready for
01:32the coming of the Lord. Matthew 25, the sheep and the goats, when Jesus comes in power and glory
01:38there is a separation between the sheep, the righteous who enter into the kingdom to eternal life
01:44and the goats who enter into eternal punishment. So there are two options before us and basically
01:52we have to get a warning out to the saved to get people saved or to face God's judgment. We also
01:59have to use the time to get the word out and one of the encouraging things I find is that many people
02:05are doing just that. You know I send out the light for last days and I have people sending in to me
02:10asking for more copies, asking for copies of our leaflets to give out. I just had a lady from
02:16Lancashire who wrote, said that she's taken about two boxes already, she wants two more boxes to hand
02:22out in her town where she is and just to get the message out. I said to her, do you get any encouragement
02:27from your church on this? She said no, not at all. She said I'm all on my own but I'm doing it because
02:32that's what I believe the Lord wants me to do and we have to face the fact that also a lot of the
02:36churches basically won't give you much encouragement in this matter because most of them have really
02:42don't want to talk about it too much because it's too controversial or it might be a bit painful
02:46to discuss these things. But there are people out there who want to do it so praise the Lord
02:51and we have to join in with them.
