Brought to you by the Continuing Church of God

“Bringing you news and analysis of world events in light of Bible prophecy.”

This is a mandate of the Continuing Church of God.

On July 8, 2025 a red heifer was sacrificed by kohanim (Levitical priests) under the order from the Temple Institute in Israel. What difference does that make? Why should the sacrifice of a red heifer even be worthy of repeating?

What if every hair on the red heifer wasn’t red? What if only two hairs were another color? Would that make a difference? Could certain Jews accept the ashes of the one just sacrificed for any "purification" purposes? What does the Book of Numbers actually teach about a red heifer?

Because of the following scriptures: "For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? ( Hebrews 9:13-14), why would a Christian even care if the Jews sacrificed a red heifer in Israel or not?

The reason Christians, and everyone else for that matter, should want to pay any attention to this is that this "practice" sacrifice looks to be setting the stage for the fulfillment of prophecies regarding animal sacrifices in the Book of Daniel (Daniel 9:27, 11:31, 12:11). The stopping of animal sacrifices will lead to the countdown to the greatest trial and tribulation the world will ever know (Matthew 24:21-22). Does the Bible show any relationship between resumed animal sacrifices, the 1260, 1290, and 1335 days prophecies, the Great Tribulation, and the return of Jesus?

Watch this video as Dr. Thiel uses the word of God to shed the light of Bible prophecy on the tremendous prophetic importance of the sacrifice of the red heifer and its time stamp in relation to the beginning of the Great Tribulation and the return of Jesus.

00:00Greetings, friends. This is Steve Dupuy for the Bible News Prophecy Program with Dr. Bob Thiel,
00:09bringing you news and analysis of world events in light of Bible prophecy.
00:14Dr. Thiel, are the rabbis in Israel any closer to sacrificing the red heifer for purification?
00:20Yes, and they just took an interesting step.
00:22This week, Israel's 365 News reported that last Tuesday, a practice red heifer burning was conducted.
00:31In the drill, the red heifer had been housed in Shiloh, was prepared and burned on wood as preparation for the possibility of an actual ceremony in the future.
00:43The heifer was not suitable for the actual ceremony as it had been inspected by the rabbis at the Temple Institute and judged to have non-red hairs.
00:51Therefore, disqualifying it.
00:53The heifer was burned on a pyre of wood, precisely as specified in Jewish sources.
00:59Practice burning was carried out in an undisclosed location in Samaria.
01:03The actual red heifer may only be burned in a specific location on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.
01:10The red heifer project was carried out by the Temple Institute under the auspices of Rabbi Azariah Ariel.
01:17Now, I've speculated, based on various things in the Temple Institute, that they might have a sacrifice this year.
01:24But the one that they did in July, this wasn't it.
01:28Okay.
01:29To be clear, why do you say this sacrifice wasn't the one that was required for purification purposes?
01:35Well, because they say it was disqualified, plus the date that they wanted it done.
01:40Now, as far as disqualification, Israel National News wrote this.
01:45A red heifer who was raised in Israel was disqualified for sacrifice after two black hairs were found on its body.
01:53It was used as a practice burning ceremony for priests.
01:58Now, the fact that the Temple Institute claims they don't currently accept that sacrifice doesn't mean that they can never change their mind by that.
02:05Well, how could the rabbis change their mind?
02:10Doesn't the Bible give them the requirements for the red heifer?
02:13Yeah, but it's long been my views that even if there were a couple of non-red hairs, the Jews, biblically speaking, could accept it if they felt the need.
02:23Now, if you go to the Temple Institute's website, they currently have the following here.
02:28It says, promise of a red heifer.
02:30Red heifer is a cow, reddish-brown in color.
02:34Burning a red heifer is one of the 613 Jewish commandments.
02:38The word of one of their sages, quote,
02:41He commands us to prepare the red heifer so that its ashes may be ready for the one who needs it for purification.
02:47And in our generation, this is again the Temple Institute, we're looking forward to the reinstitution of the service in the Holy Temple.
02:57The heifer must be completely red, meaning there may be no other colored hairs among the red ones.
03:03Jewish law pertaining to the red heifer color requirement is as follows.
03:08If the cow has two white or black hairs next to each other, it's invalid.
03:12Even if those hairs are plucked, the heifer is invalid.
03:15The eyes of the heifer, teeth, and tongue do not have to be red.
03:21However, if the horns and hooves are black, they must be removed without harming the flesh in order to be valid for this commandment.
03:27Now, related to all that kind of stuff, on July 12, 2024, so a year ago, I wrote,
03:35Before going further, let me say the Bible does not say that the heifer cannot have any other colored hairs.
03:41The Bible says nothing about the color of the hooves or them being removed.
03:45The references to the Temple Institute's article online are to Jewish sages and traditions.
03:51They're not literal biblical commands, but Jewish interpretations.
03:55Now, look, while many Orthodox Jews cling to tradition, some are more flexible when they see the reason to avoid it, particularly if it's not required by the Bible.
04:03Okay, so that's interesting.
04:06So some of the criteria of a red heifer is based on Jewish tradition.
04:11Just what is the biblical requirement?
04:13Well, the biblical requirements are in the book of Numbers, chapter 19.
04:20I want to read the first nine verses here.
04:23This will be from the New King James.
04:24Now, the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,
04:27This is the ordinance of the law which the Lord has commanded.
04:31Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring you a red heifer without blemish, to which there is no defect, upon which a yoke has never come.
04:40You shall give it to Eliezer the priest, that he may take it outside the camp that might be slaughtered before him.
04:45Now, Eliezer shall take some blood with his finger, sprinkle some of his blood seven times, directly in front of the tabernacle of meeting.
04:54Then the heifer will be burned in his sight.
04:57Its hide, its flesh, its blood, its awful meaning its intestines and stuff, which will be burned.
05:02The priest shall take cedarwood and hyssop and scarlet and cast them in the midst of the fire, burning the heifer.
05:08The priest will wash his clothes, bathe in water, and afterwards he'll come into the camp.
05:12The priest shall be unclean until evening.
05:14And the one who burns it shall wash his clothes in water, and bathe in the water, and be unclean until evening.
05:20Verse 9,
05:21And a man who is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer and store them outside the camp in a clean place,
05:27and they shall be kept for the congregation of the children of Israel for the water purification.
05:32It is for the purification of sin.
05:35Now, so those are the requirements.
05:38While the red heifer is not supposed to have any blemish or defect,
05:41the possibility of it not being fully red is not mentioned.
05:45Look, you can have a dog or a cat that says white or red or black or whatever.
05:50It's got a couple of hairs.
05:51No one says it doesn't mean that.
05:52The Bible does not say it can only have two hairs or no more than two hairs.
05:58Now, some Jews have interpreted Numbers 19 to mean that they need another red heifer for sacrifices to resume or for the Messiah to return.
06:09But that's basically what they teach.
06:14But many Jews, including those associated with the Temple Institute,
06:18have added non-biblical requirements for the so-called 10th red heifer, they call it.
06:23They're not biblically essential.
06:24And look, when Jesus was here, he complained that the Jews, like the Pharisees in his day, did that as well.
06:31He condemned them for adding tradition on top of the Bible.
06:34You can read that in Mark 7, verses 9 to 13.
06:36And it's not humanly necessary for Jews to accept something as just being biblically valid,
06:46because they could just take it because it's biblically valid.
06:49So then where does that leave us with the recent sacrifice of the red heifer with two black hairs?
06:55Well, presuming that the Temple Institute did what they said, which has followed every letter they could,
07:01they would have collected some ashes of a red heifer.
07:04That doesn't mean they won't do a future one.
07:08But let's just say in a pinch, they could say, hey, look, we do have the ashes of a red heifer.
07:12We did go through the process.
07:13We did do it right.
07:14And by the way, the Bible does not say it has to be done on the Mount of Olives.
07:18I read Numbers.
07:20It doesn't say anything about that.
07:23Now, as far as the Temple Institute goes,
07:24In July of 2024, they wrote that the time has arrived.
07:31The time has arrived because they have a high priest that they call Koenim.
07:38The time has come for sacrifice.
07:40And they have all these things, but they want to be able to have the ashes so they can do what they need to do to start all this stuff.
07:51So they're waiting, willing and able.
07:54They say they're trained to do this.
07:56And they also said that they need to do twice daily sacrifices.
08:00Has there been any other preparations outside of the Temple Institute for two daily sacrifices?
08:10Yeah, but there's kind of a cute one, if you want, or interesting one.
08:14A couple of years ago, it was reported in August 2023 that while many people are looking for this to happen,
08:21a young girl decided to come up with a calendar.
08:26And she wrote, she types a lot.
08:28She says, my name is Miriam.
08:30I'm an autistic girl.
08:32I'm not independent in lots of things, but I understand and communicate by typing.
08:36I thought for a long time, what could I do that could be significant,
08:40that would help everybody to prepare for the Temple?
08:43I decided to make a Temple calendar.
08:45I wrote down on the calendar the hours of the Talmud daily sacrifice for every day in the Talmud evening sacrifice.
08:54And she said, I want you to look at the calendar every day.
08:57Remember what we're missing right now, every day.
09:01Of course, you're talking about Jews who think they need to have sacrifices.
09:03Right.
09:04I've written everything in the present tense, so we'll feel what it's like.
09:09Let's pray that God will bring us redemption soon as the priest will offer these sacrifices.
09:16Her calendar, by the way, is available to download.
09:18You can also find it in some articles at cogwriter.com.
09:21And I machine translated part of it.
09:25And for like one of the days, she says, 618, sunrise, always a sacrifice, sacrifice.
09:32Additional victim, 1517, meaning read 17 in the afternoon, always a sacrifice.
09:371859, 669 night, sunset.
09:41Now, the requirement for two sacrifices comes to the Book of Numbers 2.
09:45This is Numbers chapter 28.
09:47I'll read verses 3 and 4.
09:48Of course, Christians, we don't need animal sacrifices or the ashes of a red heifer.
10:12If we accept that Jesus' death eliminated that need, that's actually what the Bible teaches.
10:18For example, 1 Corinthians 15, excuse me, 1 Corinthians 5, verse 7, it says that Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.
10:28And in Hebrews 9, starting in verse 11, we read, Christ came as high priest for the good things to come.
10:34With the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is not in this creation, not with the blood of bulls and calves, but with his own blood, he entered the most holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
10:50For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, talking about a red heifer here, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh,
10:57how much more so the blood of Christ, who through the eternal spirit offered himself without spot to be God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God, which is what we're supposed to do, of course.
11:10And for this reason, he's a mediator of the new covenant by means of death for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
11:22So we see that according to the New Testament, Christians don't need to be sacrificing animals.
11:27Well, if Christians don't need to concern themselves with animal sacrifices, why do we even care what the rabbis are doing with a red heifer?
11:37Well, there's a couple of reasons.
11:38One is that Jews aren't real Christians.
11:42They don't accept Jesus as a sacrifice.
11:45And the more religious ones, Jews think they have to have daily sacrifices.
11:49The second leaves because of biblical prophecies.
11:51So Jesus talked about, we see the abomination spoken of by Daniel the prophet in the book of Matthew, for example.
12:00Well, what's he talking about there?
12:02Well, we go to Daniel, Daniel chapter nine, for example, starting in verse 27, 26, 27, we read about a prince who's going to confirm a covenant with many for one week.
12:13That means seven years in the midst of the week, after three and a half years, that means he's going to cause his sacrifice to cease.
12:20And then he talks about abomination.
12:22Now, this same person, Daniel 11, verse 31, is the one who's called the king of the north.
12:28When he's king, verse 31 says, arms will stand on his part.
12:34They'll pollute the sanctuary of strength.
12:36And she'll take away the daily sacrifice and put there the abomination that makes desolate.
12:42And in Daniel 12, verse 11 to 12, we learn some more about this.
12:47So from the time the daily sacrifice is taken away, the abomination is set up.
12:51There'll be 1,290 days.
12:53So that's the he waits and comes to the 1,335 days.
12:57I may be getting a tad bit off track here, Dr. Teal, but can you briefly tell us what is meant by 1,290 days and 1,335 days in Daniel 12?
13:11Well, the late pastor general of Worldwide Church of God, Herbert Armstrong, taught about this abomination.
13:16This refers to Daniel 11, 31, Matthew 24, 15.
13:21From this time, Daniel 12, 11 to Christ's coming will be 1,290 days.
13:26He says, it seems evident a blessing is promised on God's church to wait and endure 1,335 days, approximately 1,335 days prior to Christ's coming.
13:38We don't know the exact day and hour, but when this 1,335 days begins, but from that time is when our work will end.
13:48And there'll be a time when the united Europe shall appear, the revival of the medieval Holy Roman Empire.
13:54He's talking about the end of the organized work happening.
13:59And, you know, the fact that the Jews have done the sacrifice shows that they're planning on doing it.
14:05And Miriam's calendar is another step toward that.
14:09When will the sacrifices start?
14:11Well, according to the New Testament, they're stopped before the start of the Great Tribulation.
14:16It means they've got to be started before the Great Tribulation.
14:19So, when the sacrifices stop, they must be started.
14:22This is something that the Temple Institute and others want.
14:25They want it as soon as possible.
14:27This latest practice, the burning of the reddish heifer, shows that the Temple Institute's going to do this.
14:33And they want to set the stage for other sacrifices to start.
14:37They will be.
14:38Biblical prophecies are going to be fulfilled.
14:40Thank you, Dr. Thiel.
