European farmers demand more funding in agriculture as Commission unveils budget

Hundreds of European farmers took to the streets of Brussels on Wednesday (July 16), demanding increased funding for agriculture as the EU budget proposed was unveiled.

Chanting "No budget, no CAP, no farmers, no security," the farmers dumped their boots in front of the European Commission building, just ahead of the unveiling of the 2028-2034 Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF).

The proposal has sparked anxiety among farmers, who fear reductions in subsidies under the EU's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

The proposal aims to triple the budget for migration and border management and to double the Horizon research fund, while 35 percent of the budget would be spent on climate and biodiversity.

00:00For being here, let's hear our voice. Thank you very much.
00:05Well, thank you very much. I'm going to speak in Spanish.
00:08I'll tell you that...
00:16Everybody is talking, Europe needs to get stronger.
00:19But how can you get stronger with an empty stomach?
00:22If Europe is worrying about the future,
00:26Europe should worry about the future of our farmers.
00:30And for a future for the farmers,
00:32the farmers need a strong budget, a strong CEP.
00:35They don't need a budget which has to be shared with other policies in Europe.
00:40So that are we asking today.
00:42And that should not only worry our farmers,
00:44it should worry all European civilians.
01:00We are living in special and tough moments.
01:10We are living during the geopolitical situation.
01:15Wars, barriers, tariffs, climate change and so on.
01:19In this moment we want to be more competitive and more productive on the market.
01:24We have to maintain a strong capacity on production for the citizens.
01:28And this is why we are going to ask a strong budget and strong measures for the future of farmers.
01:35And this is why we say no to the single fund of the CEP.
01:39This is why we are going to say no to less money to the farmers.
01:42Because to maintain, we want to maintain the actual amount of the money.
01:48We are going also to ask more money just for the inflation.
01:51Not just for guarantees that a fair income for farmers,
01:55but just to guarantees the European citizens about the food security.
02:18That's why we are going to offer them for a利用 of your land.
02:20So, if that's why we can plan for the farmers that they can afford are ,
02:25And we can focus on the forests by family members.
02:27And therefore, we are going to ask a strong budget for the farmers,
02:29and we will be out to the farmers.
02:31And that's why we are going to be a long-term sustainable worker in the country.
02:32And we will be known as the farmers,
02:33which is not a great defense for the farmers.
02:35But if that's what we are going to do,
02:37We will be doing the plants and farmers.
02:38We will to preparecean for the farmers as well as the farmers,
02:41but that is a big part,
02:43such a strong charge.
02:45And we will be able to remember the farmers.
