00:00French farmers rallied in front of the Parliament on Monday in Paris to support a bill aimed at easing environmental regulations.
00:10Opposition lawmakers, mostly Greens and left-wing parties, filed more than 3,500 amendments in order to delay Monday's scheduled vote.
00:21One of the bill's most controversial parts is the reauthorization of pesticides such as acetamiprid banned in France since 2018.
00:32This pesticide is allowed in parts of the EU and considered essential by sugar beet and hazelnut producers.
00:41Young farmers say the current red tape is pushing their generation away from the land.
00:47The products, we have a few uns authorised so we have to do some choice but we have to follow the regulations.
00:57So I think it's very complicated and for the future it becomes complicated.
01:05There is less and less exploitation, the young people don't want to be installed.
01:08Because today, all the solutions that we have to produce, to make our cultures well to the end,
01:18we retire them little bit.
01:20In addition, there are still some administrative constraints that are added to our activities.
01:27To maintain the levels of production that we have, no, there is no alternative today that works.
01:33But the bill has raised concerns among environmentalists due to the pesticides harmful impact on bees and potential health risks to humans.
01:51If we let us vote this type of law, it is an inverse signal.
01:55It is to say that we are opening the doors with more use and use of products that,
02:01we know that are dangerous for the living.
02:03In a dramatic move, the centre-right and far-right parties joined forces to pass a motion rejecting the debate of the bill altogether.
02:12The proposal now moves to a joint committee of seven senators and seven MPs,
02:17most of them supportive of the farmers' demands.
02:21In retaliation, left-wing lawmakers have announced plans to table a no-confidence vote against the government
02:27that will be examined on Wednesday evening.
02:31Well done.
02:32Well done.
