Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, President Trump was asked about Fed Chair Jerome Powell possibly being under investigation.
Transcript
00:00Yeah, go ahead.
00:00Mr. President, there's lots of reports coming into this meeting that you planned on firing Fed Chair Jay Powell, Markets Reactor.
00:09Is that right? Those are reports, but they're not true.
00:11So what would be useful to know, are you committed to picking someone from the outside?
00:15Are you going to interview individuals that are on the board right now?
00:17I have so many people that want that job.
00:19I have people that I've known a long time, they're calling me, begging for the job.
00:24You know what you need there? A smart person with common sense.
00:27But you need a very smart person for that job.
00:30I think it's one of the easiest jobs in government.
00:33You show up once a month and you make a statement about where the economy is going,
00:37and we're going to raise or lower interest rates.
00:39It's probably the easiest job I've ever seen.
00:42That's why I'm trying to figure, why does he want to expand and add more people?
00:46He's going to add more economists to tell him what to do.
00:49But the economists, I was right, all the economists were wrong.
00:52They admitted it this morning.
00:55Wyatt, Wyatt, Wyatt. Go ahead.
00:57Mr. President, on Jerome Calderon, you mentioned fraud in an earlier answer.
01:01Are you saying you want to investigate the Fed chair for fraud related to this renovation?
01:05Well, I think he's already under investigation.
01:08He spent far more money than he was supposed to on rebuilding.
01:12I didn't see him as being the kind of guy that would want to have parks, rooftop parks and everything else on top of buildings.
01:19But who wants to spend that money for the Fed?
01:23The Fed is supposed to sit there and say where interest rates are going and a couple of other very easy things to do.
01:29And he spent two and a half billion dollars.
01:31I think he's, you know, I think he's got some problems.
01:34I think he's got some problems.
