Bing Maps (Bing Places for Business) is part of my Local SEO Service that I offer my clients. Bing (along with Apple, the website, and directories) tends to make up around 10% of my focus with Google Maps being the 90%. Still, I see value in Bing Maps, and the KPI that I care about for my clients is if we are getting more impressions compared to similar businesses in and around our zip code. That means we have more chances to get in front of potential customers.

00:00Hey everyone, what's going on? Greg here again from Team Blast. So are you looking for more
00:04leads for your business? Chances are you're probably heavily focused on Google Maps, the
00:09heat map rankings, everything else like that, which is where you really should be. But don't
00:13overlook Bing Places for Business as another avenue to get more leads. I'm just going to be
00:17upfront with this is that within Bing Maps, it's going to be a lot harder to track. So tracking
00:22phone calls, tracking website clicks, it's going to be really difficult. So instead, the KPI that
00:27I focus on is the views. And I compare that against our competition. So in this video,
00:32there's gonna be some chapters. So feel free to skip around if you want. I'm gonna talk
00:35about where Bing Maps are, you know, where they appear. I'm gonna talk about Bing's market
00:39share in the United States for both desktop and mobile. I'm going to talk a little bit
00:42about my profile. I'm going to explain again, my client's account. They're an HVAC company
00:46and why I'm really excited about their results. And then finally, at the end, I'm going to
00:50share my Bing Places for Business profile and some things that I do with that. So let's
00:55get started. Bing Maps, what to know? Left hand side, if you just do a typical Bing search,
01:01and if it triggers a map pack like HVAC near me at the very top, you're going to get some
01:06Bing Places for Business results. Or if you go into a map search, you search for again,
01:10HVAC near me, very similar, you get the map and you get all the listings, pretty much what
01:14we expect with Google, Bing does the same. Now Bing Maps, what to know in the US, I'm going
01:19to just go by this slide and just go to this next part. So I'm going to just summarize those
01:23three bullet points. Essentially, Bing in the United States on just desktop alone has about
01:27a 25% market share, according to a third-party site called GS Stack Counter. Bing powers Bing,
01:33Yahoo, AOL, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, and probably several other third-party sites as well.
01:38The reason why this is important to share is because on mobile, Bing has almost no market
01:42share. I'm one of the few people that actually chooses to use Bing. I have Edge and the Bing
01:46app on my phone. You're not going to find most other people doing that because Safari is,
01:51they default to Google. Android is basically a Google machine, obviously. So everything is
01:56essentially Google when it comes to mobile. That's so important to understand because
02:00for Google My Business, when you are tracking your performance and your phone calls,
02:06if you're on your phone, you search for HVAC near me, you can call directly.
02:09Whereas in Bing, you're probably not using your phone to search. Therefore, if you find it on your
02:13desktop, then you pick up your phone, you call the business, you can't track it.
02:17So the standard profile, just so we're all aware, just search your brand name. I did that TM blast.
02:23My right-hand side shows up. Marketing agency is the primary category. And I have all this
02:28information over here on the right-hand side. Pretty much what we all expect from even like
02:32what Google shows, Bing does the same type of knowledge panel. These are the results for my
02:38client. So I care about this. Again, when I onboard local SEO clients, I try to set expectations
02:45for Google is going to be the most important factor for us. But Apple Maps and Bing Maps,
02:48if we can just squeeze a little bit more performance from them and we get a handful
02:51more of leads per month, it's worth it. So if 90% of my focus is on Google Maps and I can then
02:57spread out the rest into checking out on Bing, adding some changes I can do to the account and
03:02maybe squeeze some more impressions from that and to outrank our competition,
03:06that's all that matters for me and also for my client.
03:10So let's get into it. This is my Bing Places for Business account. Very similar to what Google
03:20has. Not as advanced. So I can't see the search queries that trigger the account, but this is kind
03:25of what I do. So to start, I go to the edit section over here on the top and you can either
03:32sync your changes directly into Bing or you can manually make the changes. Now I choose to sync
03:37the changes from Bing directly into, from Google directly into Bing, but you guys can also make
03:43the changes if you want. So what do you want to do over here is look at the type of business you
03:49are. So go to the segment of business over here. For me, it's professional services, but of course you
03:54can change this to what is most applicable to your business. So really take a look at all these
04:00sections over here and read exactly what the segment of business is. This is so critical.
04:05I've onboarded a lot of clients that either never claimed their Bing Places for Business account
04:12or had the wrong segment of business. So go through this carefully, read all the differences,
04:17choose the one that makes the most sense. You can also go into the categories itself and you get
04:21really specific. So again, spend the time when you onboard or even go into your own account,
04:27look at the categories, make sure you can add up to 10. So get as specific as you want.
04:32This is me. This is my primary category marketing agency. I have my description over here and
04:38pretty much I just, I imported that from Google. Go to next. So for me, this is a business address.
04:46So I do show it. I've also noticed that every time I go into the edit section, this part is always
04:51listed as no or yes. You have to just mark it. So I'm just going to mark it as yes, even though I
04:55haven't changed anything. Then you can add your email over here. So I do that. If you have a Facebook,
05:00I don't, but if you do just throw them in there, hit next. This is where you can actually add some
05:04photos. Again, very like nothing here is earth shattering, but what it's important though is
05:08that I've noticed that for my clients, you know, the categories, the description, if I can add photos
05:14of their team, make it more visually appealing, again, that dwell time, potentially increase the
05:18rankings a little bit, all that's really important. And finally, the hours. Now the hours is actually
05:24kind of important because what I've noticed with Bing, with a lot of local clients I've on board
05:30is that most, most of the time competition doesn't update their hours. So if you can go in and click
05:34on, yes, I'm going to provide working hours for special holidays. You want, you want to go through
05:38this over here. Like for example, labor day, if you were open or not, you want to, you want to
05:43essentially confirm it if they are open or if you're not, because what happens is that most people
05:48don't even update their Bing hours. And then they, um, you know, uh, Bing is like, well, no one like
05:54confirmed that they're open or not on these, on these hours and therefore everyone's ranking
05:58zone perform as well. So definitely go through that. You want to make the, uh, necessary updates
06:04for your hours. Again, it's a, it's an important ranking signal for Bing. So definitely do that.
06:09Okay. So the cut that I did was I had to go back and then it opened up all of the clients I have.
06:14So I had to, uh, stop the video, but, uh, one more thing over here too, you can go to,
06:19uh, add advanced information. So I'm going to click on add, uh, open up in a new link over here.
06:24So if you have any, uh, secondary social profiles, you want to add that there to LinkedIn, I have
06:30Instagram, uh, and YouTube. So those are the threes that I did. You can also add some amenities as
06:35well. So for me, I have free parking at my location. These are all pretty basic, uh, signals.
06:40And then finally you have the special announcement. So special announcement makes your,
06:43your profile a little bit bigger. Uh, you can actually add some UTM tracking. I don't,
06:47because this is just for my own account. I don't have, I don't have the time, uh, to dive into my
06:52own numbers. I have more focused on my clients, but what you can do is make a special announcement.
06:57You can add a URL over here and you can add UTM tracking. So special announcement could be things
07:01like, you know, if you're like, let's say an HVAC company, you can say first time, um, customers get a
07:0710% off code. And the link goes to, uh, some contact page on your website that allows someone
07:14to use the code. If they're a first time, uh, customer, or if you're a mover, you can say first
07:19move is off 10% or 20%. Again, you can go directly to that landing page with the deal. It makes your
07:25profile even bigger. So I hope these, you know, this video, these, these tips might have sparked
07:31some, you know, ideas for what you can really do. Again, this isn't earth shattering stuff that you
07:36can do on your Bing places for business account, but, you know, adding photos, you know, making
07:40sure you have the right categories, um, you know, maybe updating your description, changing, um, you
07:46know, make sure your, your special hours are always up to date, add advanced information for your
07:51social profiles, special announcements, make it even bigger. Uh, these are just some small
07:55ways that you can really go forward and get some more impressions for Bing and hopefully
07:58lead to more, uh, potential leads for your business. So anyway, thanks for watching this
08:04video. Uh, let me know if you have any questions and stay tuned for the next one.
