Kent has the highest number of recorded bumblebee sightings across the whole of the UK, with East Kent topping the list with more than 46,000 being seen from 2008 to 2024. This is 5000 more than the second-ranked, North Somerset. Overall, however, the numbers continue to drastically plummet.

Kristin Hawthorne spoke with a Beekeeper with more than 40 years of experience to see his reaction to the statistics.

00:00East Kent has the highest number of bumblebee sighting. What's your reaction to that?
00:04Reassured. Obviously we're aware of the impact of the climate. The further south you go the cooler
00:13it tends to be. I mean they are like all insects suffering from various stressors and they are
00:21finding it very difficult to cope with the increasing temperature because they've got
00:25fur coats of course but it's like what's the worst thing that's happened to the environment
00:34for the last over the last 300 years and the answer of course is mankind.
