Tiruchirappalli (Tamil Nadu), July 16, 2025 (ANI): Tamil Nadu’s largest fully Air-Conditioned Bus Terminus becomes operational from July 16. Fully air-conditioned bus Terminus, Kalaignar Dr. M. Karunanidhi Integrated Bus Terminal, becomes operational in Panjappur, Tiruchirappalli. Tamil Nadu’s first and largest fully air-conditioned integrated bus terminus, named after Kalaignar Dr. M. Karunanidhi Integrated Bus Terminal, has officially become operational in Panjappur, Trichy. This major infrastructure development fulfills a long-pending demand for a modern bus terminal in the central part of the state.Inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on May 9, the terminus had undergone final improvement works and has now been opened for public use. The bus services were flagged off today by Municipal Administration Minister K.N. Nehru in the presence of District Collector Saravanan and local MLAs.Built on a sprawling 40-acre site along the Trichy–Madurai National Highway, the terminus was constructed at a cost of ₹408 crores. Designed as a two-level structure, it can handle over 3,200 buses daily. The ground floor is dedicated to inter-district and long-distance buses, while the first floor caters to intra-city services, enabling smooth and efficient traffic flow.This is Tamil Nadu’s first bus terminus with air-conditioned amenities for both commercial and food service areas, setting a new benchmark in commuter infrastructure.To improve connectivity with the city center, a 9.8 km link road is being developed at an initial cost of ₹81.7 crore. The total project, including flyovers, footpaths, and stormwater drains, is valued at ₹367 crores.With its scale, modern design, and commuter-friendly features, the Panjappur Integrated Bus Terminus is expected to position Trichy as a leading transport hub not just in Tamil Nadu, but across India.
