00:00What do you think happened to Amy?
00:23I don't know.
00:26Amy!
00:27Something terrible did happen.
00:30Amy!
00:31I got to think that somebody killed her.
00:36Maybe she was killed and put in a suitcase and taken off the ship.
00:45I think she jumped or fell off.
00:49I do not believe that Amy committed suicide.
00:53There's no room for me to believe that.
00:57I'm reticent to tell you what I think has happened.
01:01I don't want to say it out loud as I don't want to speak it into being.
01:05What would I know she'd have to do?
01:06I had nothing to do with that.
01:08Nothing.
01:08Exactly what has happened to their daughter is a mystery and FBI agents have now boarded the cruise ship to try to solve it.
01:17If someone has her, please let her go, leave her somewhere in the middle of the night blindfolded. We won't ask any questions.
01:26I still think she's alive. I think she got taken as a sex slave, but I don't know that.
01:31A dream cruise to a Caribbean paradise.
01:34A mystery on a cruise ship of a passenger who vanished.
01:37We don't know what went wrong.
01:39It just goes deeper and deeper.
01:41There's so many questions.
01:44Terrible accident or foul play?
01:46Just so many theories.
01:48She turned back. She was almost saying, help me.
01:51And one of them is the right answer.
01:54If you ever wanted to kill somebody, just take them on a cruise.
01:58Because you'll never get caught.
02:09How often do you replay the trip?
02:14Every day. Every day.
02:17Not occasionally.
02:19Not every other day.
02:22Not once a month.
02:25When you wake up thinking about it, go to bed thinking about it.
02:30It's just everything around you reminds you of her.
02:39Come on. How do you make this look?
02:42All right.
02:43And it's a really, really terrible, terrible feeling.
02:48Let's say you're going to go shopping.
02:49And you've got your children with you.
02:52The children are playing around up underneath all the clothes.
02:57And you look up.
03:00And one of the children's not there.
03:02It's sheer panic.
03:03And that feeling is something that doesn't go away.
03:17We're 71 and 72 now.
03:20And I was 45 when Amy disappeared.
03:31It was March 21st, 1998.
03:34And I was going to stay at the Bradleys' house while they were on the cruise.
03:40Because I was watching the dogs and the birds and, you know, taking care of the house.
03:45We got to go in just a minute.
03:49Growing up, I kind of was like the fifth member of the Bradleys, just like kind of living there all the time.
03:55It was always fun.
03:58Like their house was always full of laughter.
04:01Mom and Dad said that when you were three, you were designated the job of busting your forehead on every doorknob.
04:07I loved being with Amy and Brad.
04:09It was fun.
04:09We all had fun together all the time.
04:11They were close in a way that made you want your family to be like that close.
04:15When I picture my sister, I don't envision her as much different than when I last saw her.
04:23I still see the same sis I always did.
04:27As you head for the future, be confident and take advice from no other.
04:31I'll always be there for you.
04:33I love you, little brother.
04:34Hey.
04:38Brad actually was my boyfriend at the time.
04:41But, I mean, we were all such good friends.
04:43You know, young love.
04:46At the time, Brad was 21 years old, two years younger than Amy.
04:50Amy was 23.
04:52She was a year older than me.
04:54She had just gotten a new apartment, a new dog.
04:57So it was sort of like this family trip that you're going on, kind of before you start your big girl life.
05:03How are you doing?
05:05I'm feeling like that.
05:07I remember us shopping and talking about bathing suits and, you know, packing for the trip.
05:13And she seemed excited to go.
05:16I mean, you know, they all did.
05:19I just remember them pulling out of the driveway.
05:22I didn't realize that life is never going to be the same after that.
05:26I was cruise director for Royal Caribbean for 20 years, and I was cruise director on the Rhapsody of the Seas.
05:52Hi, folks. I'm Kirk Catweiler, your cruise director, and I'd like to...
05:57Oh, Jesus.
05:59I'm a baby.
06:01This video we played at the beginning of the Welcome Aboard show.
06:04And I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome you aboard the MS Rhapsody of the Seas, one of the largest and most beautiful cruise ships afloat.
06:11My job, the cruise director, is like the face of the ship.
06:15Every cruise was different.
06:16You'd get a different crowd every week.
06:19My soft spot was for the old ladies.
06:22I would go dance with the old ladies.
06:23Oh, my God.
06:24I have a granddaughter, you know.
06:26Oh, my God.
06:27Oh, my God.
06:27Oh, my God.
06:28Oh, my God.
06:28Oh, my God.
06:28Oh, my God.
06:28Oh, my God.
06:28Oh, my God.
06:28Oh, my God.
06:29Oh, my God.
06:29Oh, my God.
06:30Oh, my God.
06:30Oh, my God.
06:31Oh, my God.
06:32Three steps back, rock forward, rock back, step, turn, and start again.
06:40It was just a great life.
06:41I probably have 500 best friends that I worked with, you know.
06:46That was a good time.
06:48This particular cruise is March of 1998, and I remember that cruise very well.
06:54We were doing seven-day cruises out of San Juan, and we did Aruba, Curacao, St. Martin, St. Thomas.
07:02That's supposed to be the biggest ship in the world.
07:09Pretty big.
07:13My wife and I are both insurance agents with Illinois Mutual Insurance Company, and they
07:17would run contests every year.
07:19In this particular year, we were rewarded with a cruise.
07:23We're going in my room.
07:26What do you guys want to do?
07:27That's pretty neat.
07:28We were pumped about the trip as a couple, but when we realized that they were going to
07:34actually let us bring Amy and Brad with us, we couldn't have been more thrilled.
07:38To pull that couch, flying the last door.
07:41Of course, they would probably have liked to have had their own cabin being 21 and 23 years
07:46old, but it didn't work out that way.
07:53San Juan.
07:54San Juan Harbor.
07:57Got y'all filmed.
07:58We did stop.
07:59Amy bought some postcards, and we picked up about a dozen rolls of film.
08:04Amy was taking pictures to enter a photo contest.
08:07Horns are going off.
08:11We're leaving the dock.
08:20I remember going up to the pool deck and looking around.
08:24There was a band playing, typical kind of steel kettle drum band.
08:27The next day, we were at sea.
08:36The water, it was crystal clear, just like they talk about on TV.
08:48And then day three was the stop on Aruba.
08:52I remember we rented a vehicle and got lost in, like, the desert and all this stuff, and
08:58we got baked by the sun.
09:00We were talking about what we were going to do the next day on Curacao.
09:04We went on back on the ship.
09:06I'm getting this for Aaron.
09:09This is the boy who is very, very tired, had a hard day on the island of Aruba.
09:15And he's passed out.
09:16That night, we were getting ready for dinner, and that was the formal night.
09:25The photographer said that he wanted to take a picture of Amy.
09:29And Amy was standing there.
09:31He said, OK, now, her and her boyfriend, Amy, laughed, and she said,
09:35that's not my boyfriend, that's my baby, Brian.
09:39At the dinner table, the wait staff was noticeably attentive to Amy and kind of flirting a little bit.
09:46And we actually went as far as to make jokes at the table, like, hey, if anybody needs anything,
09:50just tell them Amy wants it.
09:52You know, it'll be here right away.
09:56Just after dinner, we went back to the room and, you know, got out our formals
10:00and went up to the pool deck.
10:04Going out.
10:05You're going to get really fun.
10:07Okay.
10:08The pool party started at 10 o'clock.
10:11It was like dancing under the stars or something like that, they called it.
10:16It almost seemed like everybody was up there.
10:19There was a limbo contest that somehow or another I ended up winning.
10:26The crown that I won when I won the limbo contest, I ended up putting it on Amy's head.
10:31The boat had left Aruba during the pool party at, like, 1 a.m.
10:38At that point, Ivan and I were tired, so we decided to call it a night,
10:42and we told Amy and Brad that we were going to bed.
10:45And I said, I love you.
10:47She said, I love you too, Mom.
10:49She said, I'll see you in the morning.
10:50I said, okay.
10:52And so we went to bed.
10:53I went up to the disco because that was the last place that was open,
11:03and we weren't ready to turn in yet.
11:05We were having drinks and listening to music and having a great time.
11:10And we had a lot of fun together.
11:13I was walking out of the club.
11:16I motioned up to Amy, who was up in the upper level of the DJ booth area.
11:21It was like a round table where four, five, six people were sitting up there,
11:26and we kind of, you know, motioned at each other,
11:28and I said, I'm going to be out here.
11:32And so I go out and hang out on the upper deck for a half hour or something like that,
11:38and then go back to my room, our room, the room we all shared.
11:47My parents were sleeping.
11:48I went out onto the balcony.
11:56And, like, not five minutes later, it seemed,
11:59Amy came back to the room.
12:07And we're both kind of just finishing our drinks
12:09and, you know, hanging out and talking about the next day.
12:14She brought up that someone she had been dancing and was talking to
12:20during the course of the evening made some sort of physical pass at her.
12:24She told me it was the bass player from the band.
12:30She didn't make a big deal of it.
12:32Just kind of mentioned in passing.
12:36At that point, yeah, we were both tipsy, you know?
12:39Not, like, not crazy.
12:41I mean, I could tell it was time for bed.
12:44You know, we were getting up pretty early the next morning,
12:47so I was going to try to get a few hours of sleep.
12:48She said, you know, I don't feel too good.
12:53I'm going to sit right here with all the fresh air and the wind.
12:59Told her I loved her and see her tomorrow
13:01and shut the glass door behind me.
13:08And, uh, we went to bed.
13:09I remember waking somewhere around 5.30 in the morning.
13:23Brad had come in and gone to bed,
13:25but I didn't see Amy in there.
13:27So I made sure that Amy was okay,
13:29and I saw her legs and her feet
13:32sitting in a lounge chair on the balcony.
13:35So I said, well, she's safe.
13:37And about 10 to 6, 6 o'clock, somewhere in there,
13:49something woke me up again.
13:52I don't know what it was,
13:54but when my eyes opened,
13:57I looked out again, and she wasn't there.
14:03I noticed that the balcony door was open.
14:07About 12 to 14 inches.
14:10I noticed that her cigarettes weren't out there.
14:14And the shirt that she had on that night
14:17was laying on the chair in the room.
14:21It was a yellow polo shirt.
14:25So the first thing that I'm thinking
14:27is she's changed her clothes and went up.
14:30She's left the room,
14:31and she's up getting a cup of coffee,
14:33taking pictures,
14:34because we were coming into port.
14:39And that's when I left the room.
14:41I figured that by leaving myself
14:43and letting them sleep,
14:45that I would find Amy,
14:47you know, in just a few minutes.
14:51And then everything would be good.
14:52But when I didn't,
14:56that's when I came back and told Alva,
14:58you know, I was,
15:00I can't find Amy.
15:02He touches my foot,
15:04and he said,
15:06I've been looking for Amy,
15:07and I can't find her.
15:09All of a sudden,
15:24the ship is close to docking.
15:34One of my staff came to me
15:37and said, Brent,
15:38I've got some parents
15:39who are at the desk.
15:40They are concerned about their daughter.
15:44I went out to the desk,
15:45and I spoke to Mr. and Mrs. Bradley.
15:47They were really, really concerned,
15:49and, you know,
15:50a bit forceful
15:51in wanting to know
15:53what we could do.
15:56They did ask for the ship
15:59to put out a voice page.
16:01I did explain
16:04that we wouldn't do
16:05a voice page
16:06at seven o'clock
16:07in the morning.
16:08For the rest of our guests,
16:10that could be seen
16:11as intrusive.
16:13What I said to them was,
16:15it sounds like you've had
16:16a really good look around.
16:18Keep looking,
16:19but if you can't find
16:20your daughter
16:21within a half an hour,
16:23come back.
16:24I'll be here,
16:24and I'll get you
16:25the security officer.
16:26The ship was 10 decks,
16:30and it was 1,000 feet long.
16:32She could have been anywhere.
16:342,000 people were getting ready
16:36to get off the ship
16:36in Curacao.
16:38I had bouffant hair
16:39at the time,
16:39so I was probably
16:40spritzing in my hair,
16:43getting ready to make
16:44my appearance
16:44on the gangway.
16:48And I heard an announcement
16:49that, you know,
16:50would Amy Bradley
16:51please contact
16:52the person's desk?
16:54You could see people
16:55gathering their things up.
16:57We're just saying,
16:58you can't let people
16:59off of this boat
17:00until we find her.
17:03The hotel director
17:04kind of debriefed me,
17:05oh, this girl's missing.
17:07But at the time,
17:07I still had to make
17:08the clearance announcement.
17:11I was begging them,
17:14can you back the ship
17:15off of the dock,
17:16don't put the gangways down,
17:17stop everything.
17:25Good morning,
17:26ladies and gentlemen.
17:27Welcome to Curacao.
17:28The gangway's located
17:29on deck number two
17:30using the F set of stairs.
17:32We're not gonna stop
17:33everybody's cruise
17:34because there was
17:35a missing girl.
17:37That's one family's
17:38unfortunate incident,
17:39but we still had
17:392,400 people
17:40who paid a lot of money.
17:41And as cold as that sounds,
17:42that's the reality.
17:43It was nothing like
17:50we've ever felt before.
17:52People still going
17:54on their merry way,
17:55having a vacation,
17:57laughing, talking.
18:00And there we are
18:01looking for my daughter.
18:04It was, uh,
18:06it was what nightmares
18:07were made of.
18:11After her family
18:12didn't find her,
18:13we decided
18:15to do a search
18:16of the ship.
18:17We had a,
18:18what they call,
18:18Charlie drill.
18:19They call it a Charlie drill,
18:20but it's basically
18:21a bomb search drill.
18:23We check every drawer
18:24of every closet,
18:25of every room,
18:27of every nook,
18:27of every cranny.
18:29It takes 45 minutes
18:30to an hour.
18:30You have 800,
18:31900 people doing it.
18:33Every crew member
18:34has to check
18:35their own cabin.
18:37Every inch
18:38of the ship.
18:41For the search,
18:42the security guard
18:44had told us
18:44to go back
18:45to the room
18:45and wait.
18:46So we didn't see
18:48anyone search the ship,
18:49but that's when
18:50the captain came in.
18:52He says,
18:53we have searched,
18:56and your daughter's
18:58not on this boat.
19:02Nothing was found.
19:04She just disappeared.
19:06Everybody,
19:07at least from
19:08the employee's side,
19:09was just assuming
19:10that she either jumped
19:11or fell overboard.
19:13We were thinking
19:14it was possible
19:15that she went overboard.
19:17It's not so common
19:18as people might think,
19:19but it's possible.
19:24When we didn't find
19:25her on the ship,
19:26local authorities
19:27to cure us out
19:27were called immediately.
19:28I was the chief
19:29of the hour police,
19:30and when something
19:31like that happens,
19:32automatically it comes
19:34in my lap.
19:36They thought
19:36she had fallen overboard.
19:38Our waters have
19:39a very strong current,
19:40so something should
19:42wash the shore.
19:45I remember the search.
19:47I could see the boats
19:48and the helicopters
19:49out looking.
19:50It was the biggest search
19:52that we ever had.
19:53A search grid
19:58was between
19:59Curaçao and Aruba.
20:01The Marines,
20:02the Venezuelan Coast Guard,
20:03the Navy,
20:04everybody was looking
20:05at that area.
20:07Because of the position
20:08of the boat,
20:09wind force,
20:11sea current,
20:12the wave height,
20:14the body would have
20:15washed up.
20:16But she was nowhere
20:17to find.
20:19Not even a piece
20:19of clothes in.
20:21Nothing.
20:23It was very unusual.
20:25Very, very unusual.
20:27I was born here.
20:28I know about the water.
20:30Researched.
20:31I'm telling you,
20:32if she came off the ship
20:33or fell off the ship,
20:34we would get a body.
20:38She would have
20:38washed the shore.
20:40Our waters have sharks,
20:41but the shark
20:42will not eat her completely.
20:45Something,
20:45maybe a leg
20:46or an arm,
20:48something would have
20:49washed the shore.
20:51A costa strano.
20:52I mean,
20:53the thing is strange.
21:00They called me
21:01March 24th, 1998.
21:03The phone rang.
21:05I said hello.
21:07And it was awful.
21:08It was awful.
21:10Just three people
21:12crying uncontrollably.
21:14I mean, pain
21:17that I've never
21:18heard before.
21:21Because I was alone.
21:23And I'm sitting there
21:24thinking,
21:25oh my God,
21:26what next?
21:27What's going to happen next?
21:34We left
21:35five or six o'clock.
21:36You know,
21:38we still had a couple
21:38thousand people
21:39to entertain and feed.
21:40They were still
21:41on vacation,
21:41so we went back
21:42to, you know,
21:44normal operating procedure.
21:46Life goes on.
21:49Cruises go on.
21:53That's when word
21:54got to America.
21:55And we begin tonight
21:57with a mystery
21:58on the high seas.
21:59It was like breaking news.
22:01This picture
22:01of 23-year-old
22:02Amy Lynn Bradley
22:03was taken just hours
22:05before she mysteriously
22:06vanished from a cruise ship
22:07early Tuesday morning.
22:09Like,
22:09that's not our Amy
22:10that they're talking about.
22:12Stephanie had called me.
22:14We just all were
22:14kind of like,
22:15oh my gosh.
22:17And I'm an eternal optimist.
22:19Everything's going to be okay.
22:20They're going to find her.
22:21It's fine.
22:22It was a mistake.
22:24She got drunk
22:25and was somewhere
22:28lost or something.
22:29I was so just like numb.
22:33In college,
22:34we had all lived
22:35in the same dorm.
22:36I mean,
22:37we literally all met
22:38because of Amy.
22:40It happened
22:40while I was
22:41on this work trip.
22:43There weren't
22:43a lot of details.
22:45I just remember
22:47not being able to stand.
22:49We have to find her now.
22:51Now.
22:52Most people
23:01have no idea
23:03when they board
23:04a cruise ship
23:05the dangers
23:07that are inherent there.
23:09But the things
23:10that have happened
23:11to me,
23:12things that have happened
23:13to Amy Bradley
23:15and her family
23:16can happen
23:18to anyone,
23:19anyone.
23:19and they do happen
23:21all the time.
23:23My daughter died
23:25on a three-day cruise
23:26out of Long Beach
23:27to Mexico.
23:28And after that,
23:30I began working
23:31for improved safety
23:33and security
23:34on cruise ships.
23:35this ship is like
23:39a small city.
23:40You cannot let
23:41your guard down.
23:42You must remain
23:43vigilant
23:43at all times.
23:45Once you're 12 miles
23:47offshore,
23:48you're in
23:48international waters.
23:50And that's about
23:52as lawless
23:53as you can get.
23:55The closest thing
23:56to police
23:57is the security crew.
23:59Well,
23:59that's an inherent
24:00conflict right there
24:02because they're hired
24:02by the cruise line.
24:04And so,
24:05if you have
24:05a disappearance,
24:07you're hundreds
24:08of miles away
24:09before the U.S.
24:11investigative authorities
24:12are able
24:13to get on that ship.
24:17In 1998,
24:18I was just freshly
24:20out of college.
24:22Our office
24:22on St. Thomas
24:23was a small office
24:24with several agents.
24:25I heard about the case
24:27and then I hopped
24:28on to assist.
24:29The initial information
24:30that comes in
24:31is very, very sparse.
24:33It was an American citizen
24:34that had gone missing.
24:35Her age was 23
24:36and she was on
24:37her family vacation.
24:46We flew down
24:47from St. Thomas
24:48to St. Martin.
24:49And in St. Martin,
24:51the cruise ships
24:51don't pull up to port.
24:53They dock out at sea.
24:54And then they run
24:55these little dinghies
24:56to shore.
24:57And so,
24:58we hopped on one
24:59of the dinghies
24:59that was going back
25:00to the boat.
25:02The boat was huge.
25:04It's almost like
25:05pulling up to the side
25:06of the Empire State Building.
25:07It's this massive thing.
25:10We knew that
25:10the Coast Guard
25:11and the local police department
25:13in Curacao
25:13did not find a body.
25:15So,
25:16did something occur
25:17that was nefarious
25:18and criminal?
25:19This particular case,
25:20anything could have occurred.
25:21We boarded the ship
25:24the late afternoon.
25:27The captain gave us
25:28a briefing
25:29on what he knew.
25:30Last place she was seen
25:31was in the cabin
25:32on the balcony.
25:34So,
25:35the first thing
25:35we wanted to do
25:36was look at the cabin.
25:40The room was organized well
25:42and it was very small.
25:47There was basically
25:47just enough room
25:48for the two beds
25:49and just a walk
25:50in between them
25:51to get to the balcony
25:52and back out.
25:54In the room,
25:55there was no signs
25:56of a struggle
25:57but we couldn't be
25:59certain the ship
26:00had locked down
26:00the cabin
26:01as a potential crime scene.
26:04The Bradley room
26:05had been cleaned
26:06before the FBI
26:07even was able
26:08to get on board.
26:08which was unfortunate
26:12because there was evidence
26:13there was no preservation
26:15of that evidence.
26:19We tried to take
26:20fingerprints
26:20and we tried to take
26:22fibers from the sheets
26:23but, you know,
26:24it had already been cleaned.
26:26And we looked
26:26at the balcony.
26:31Based on what
26:32the captain briefed us on,
26:33the last place
26:34that she was physically seen
26:35was here.
26:36The railing
26:38on the balcony
26:39is relatively high.
26:41I'm over six feet tall
26:43and the railing,
26:44you know,
26:44came up relatively high
26:46on me
26:46and it was a sheer drop
26:48all the way down
26:48to the water.
26:51The balcony was arranged
26:53so that
26:54there were two lounge chairs
26:55and then a small table.
26:57The little table
26:57was pushed up
26:58against the glass
26:59of the balcony.
27:00Amy's shoes
27:01were found
27:02on the balcony
27:03neatly placed together
27:05beside the little table
27:06in like a Birkenstock
27:07kind of sandals.
27:09You could speculate,
27:11did she jump?
27:12But there's no direct
27:13evidence of that.
27:15I don't really take
27:16a table being moved
27:18as a key piece
27:19of evidence
27:19because things,
27:20of course,
27:20had been moved
27:21because of the cleaning crew.
27:22So it gets very difficult.
27:25At this point,
27:26we need to speak
27:27to the family
27:28because they were
27:29the last ones
27:30to see her.
27:33We're taken
27:33to a room
27:34and there's
27:36two FBI agents
27:37and it was basically
27:39an interview.
27:40We met the family
27:40as a whole,
27:41all three together
27:42initially,
27:43and then we broke
27:44them out
27:44and interviewed
27:45each family member
27:46separately.
27:48You know,
27:48we were sensitive
27:49to their situation,
27:51but at the same time,
27:52we have to start
27:53asking questions
27:53because we need
27:54to determine
27:55what they knew.
27:58We were taking turns
27:59going in,
28:00talking to the FBI.
28:02He assured us,
28:03he said,
28:03we will,
28:04we will leave
28:05no stone unturned
28:06to help you.
28:08They asked me
28:08simple things
28:09like, you know,
28:10what happened
28:11in the timeline
28:12of that, you know,
28:13that night in question
28:14and all that kind of stuff.
28:17We're not only
28:18looking for evidence
28:19of what possibly
28:21did happen,
28:22we're also looking
28:22to eliminate
28:23potential alternatives.
28:25I spoke up
28:26and said,
28:27I don't understand
28:29why you're taking
28:31so much time
28:32with us.
28:34When I came back out,
28:36I told Ive,
28:37I said,
28:37you understand
28:38why they're,
28:38why they're talking
28:39to us like this
28:40and interviewing us
28:41separately.
28:41That's because
28:42we're suspects.
28:43They think that
28:44one of us had
28:45something to do
28:45with it, maybe.
28:49We had to look
28:50at the Bradley family.
28:51The last place
28:52they had seen Amy
28:53was in their cabin.
28:54and in the middle
28:55of the night.
28:57But we found
28:58no evidence
28:59that led us
29:00to consider
29:01a family member
29:01as a possible culprit.
29:07Initially,
29:08you are trying
29:09to figure out
29:09that timeline,
29:10to really pick apart
29:12and peel that onion
29:13back on what
29:14could have occurred.
29:15We do have
29:16one concrete point
29:17of fact.
29:18We do have
29:20confirmation of
29:21when the family
29:22re-entered their cabin,
29:23when Bradley went
29:24back in,
29:25as well as Amy,
29:26because of their
29:26key card.
29:28The stage rooms
29:29at that time
29:30had key cards
29:31that when you
29:32would use the key card,
29:33it would create
29:34an electronic record
29:35of entry to the room.
29:37So we know
29:39what time Amy
29:39got back
29:40into her room.
29:41She was in her room
29:42approximately by,
29:42you know,
29:433.40 a.m.
29:44She's out on the balcony
29:45with her brother.
29:46They're chatting
29:47and having a smoke
29:48out there.
29:50And that is the only
29:51true fact
29:53that we have.
29:54And then it does
29:55get a little murky.
29:57After interviewing
29:57the Bradleys,
29:59what we know
30:00is approximately
30:015.30 or so
30:03in the morning,
30:03she was on the balcony.
30:05At 6 a.m.
30:06or sometime
30:07right thereafter,
30:08she wasn't
30:09on the balcony.
30:12The ship did have
30:13security cameras
30:14in certain places.
30:16The cameras were
30:16mostly in common areas.
30:19But there weren't many.
30:21And so we looked
30:21at that footage
30:22and we didn't find anything.
30:24To get a full timeline,
30:26you're just hoping
30:27that someone
30:27would come forward
30:28to say that
30:29they heard something
30:30or they saw something.
30:33I had the room
30:34next door to Ivo
30:36and Ron Bradley.
30:37I remember the FBI,
30:39they were looking
30:40for clues
30:41and they had the room
30:43open by the door
30:45so you could see in.
30:48They had yellow tape
30:50across things.
30:52I leave my room
30:53and I'm getting
30:54a little feeling
30:55weird stuff going on.
30:57You know,
30:58people gossip
30:59when they're hanging out.
31:00When I first heard
31:04the news,
31:04it was apparently
31:05somebody fell overboard.
31:07I'm like,
31:08oh, that's horrible.
31:09Yeah, they're searching
31:10for her.
31:11Later by,
31:12like the next day,
31:13I'm hearing
31:14that she committed suicide.
31:16Like, what?
31:18From what I heard
31:20through the grapevine,
31:21she had kind of bragged
31:22that she was a good swimmer
31:23and when she saw
31:24the lights of Curacao,
31:26she was going to
31:27jump in the water
31:27and try to beat
31:28the ship ashore.
31:31I remember hearing
31:32someone say
31:33that someone
31:34could have drugged her
31:35and abducted her.
31:39And then I heard,
31:41yeah, apparently,
31:42maybe she didn't jump.
31:44I was like, what?
31:45He goes, yeah,
31:46they think there was
31:47some sort of foul play.
31:50There was a lot of rumors.
31:53Oh, everybody's talking
31:54about it.
31:54I seen her here.
31:56I seen her there.
31:59The FBI wanted
32:01to interview me.
32:03The first thing
32:04out of my mouth was,
32:06I seen her last night.
32:09And I told them
32:10that I seen Amy Bradley
32:12up at the disco
32:13that night
32:14at about 2 o'clock
32:15because I went up
32:16to the disco
32:16just to see
32:17what was going on.
32:18And I just observed
32:19and sat down
32:20and, yeah,
32:21looking for,
32:23you know,
32:23looking at girls,
32:24whatever.
32:26I told the FBI,
32:28Wayne Breitag,
32:30he would come out
32:31on his balcony
32:31that was next to us
32:33and there was a partition,
32:34but he would lean over
32:36to talk to Amy.
32:38He was just odd.
32:41He was just
32:41an odd individual.
32:43During the cruise,
32:44I'd go to the casino
32:45for a while
32:46and then I'd always
32:47come back to the room
32:48and I'd go out
32:49to the balcony
32:49till 3, 4 in the morning.
32:52Earlier on the trip,
32:53Amy and I,
32:55we talked.
32:58Their balcony,
32:59you know,
33:00those balconies
33:00on those ships,
33:02even though that rail's
33:03right there,
33:04well, you can step up
33:05to that rail,
33:05you can lean right
33:06and look right around
33:07in that other balcony.
33:08That's where we talk
33:11about how she was
33:12a good athlete
33:13and she just graduated
33:15college and she was
33:16going to some job
33:17or something.
33:22We interviewed
33:23Mr. Breitag.
33:25He mainly talked
33:26about, you know,
33:28his interactions
33:28or conversations
33:29with Amy
33:30and how pleasant
33:31she was
33:31and this sort of thing,
33:32but he was there
33:33by himself.
33:33I don't think
33:35he had a spouse
33:36or friend
33:36or anything with him.
33:38All my cruises,
33:39I went on by myself.
33:40I never took anybody
33:41or anything,
33:42so I kind of,
33:43my chiropractor
33:44always says,
33:45your filter's
33:46only this big anymore.
33:47So my filter is,
33:50I like solitude.
33:51I like being alone.
33:54That night,
33:56I probably was
33:57back in the room
33:57by 2.30
33:58and whatever,
33:59but I don't remember
34:01hearing anything
34:02from in that room.
34:05That's why it was
34:06a real surprise
34:09to me
34:09that this stuff
34:10had happened.
34:12The passengers
34:13in the cabin
34:15on the other side
34:16of him
34:17said that
34:18after Amy disappeared,
34:20his TV
34:21or either radio
34:22was at a level of,
34:24you gotta be kidding me.
34:25And then they could
34:26hear him talking
34:27inside of his room,
34:29even over the sound
34:30of the loud TV
34:32or the radio
34:32and the thought
34:34was,
34:34well,
34:34who's he talking to?
34:37We did search
34:38his room
34:39and we didn't find
34:40any evidence
34:40of her presence there.
34:43There was a version
34:44that somebody
34:45mentioned to us
34:46that she tried
34:47to climb over
34:47and fell.
34:49Somebody could say that.
34:52Yeah,
34:53somebody could say that,
34:54but I never had
34:55nothing to do
34:56with Amy Bradley.
34:59Nothing.
35:01She just was
35:02the girl
35:02next door
35:03in the room.
35:03At some point
35:16on Thursday,
35:18somebody puts
35:19a notice
35:20on my door.
35:22It said,
35:23Amy Bradley
35:24missing,
35:25you know,
35:25police contact,
35:26whatever.
35:27When I saw
35:28her face,
35:29I went,
35:31oh, I know her.
35:31And I remember
35:34seeing her
35:34on the boat
35:35and she was
35:37just the life
35:38of the party.
35:39Amy had this,
35:40like,
35:41magnetic,
35:42magic bubble
35:43around her.
35:44And when she'd
35:46walk into the room,
35:47everybody noticed her.
35:49It heard about
35:50the missing girl,
35:51but when I saw
35:52the Xeroxed flyer
35:54on my door,
35:55that's when I went,
35:56oh,
35:57that's the girl?
35:59That's the one?
36:01Interesting.
36:03My mind starts racing
36:05and I'm thinking,
36:06well,
36:06we were in that
36:07dance club
36:07that night shooting
36:08the night she
36:09went missing.
36:11I was working
36:12for a computer company
36:13in the San Francisco
36:14Bay Area.
36:15They were doing
36:17a trip
36:18for all their
36:19best salespeople
36:20on this cruise ship.
36:21My job was
36:23to edit
36:24a little highlights reel.
36:28As a job,
36:29I'm thinking,
36:29yay,
36:30I'm going to be
36:30on a boat.
36:31No,
36:31I was in a stateroom
36:33almost the entire time.
36:36After I saw
36:37the picture of Amy,
36:38I sit down,
36:39I go through
36:40my box of tapes
36:41and I start
36:42going through them.
36:43You drop it in
36:44and you shuttle
36:45and you scan
36:45and you look.
36:47Nope.
36:47Take the next one,
36:49shuttle and scan.
36:51Nope.
36:52The next one.
36:58Boom.
37:01And there's Amy.
37:02Clear as a bell.
37:07And she's dancing
37:08with Yellow.
37:11Yellow was a bass player
37:12who played
37:13out on the pool deck.
37:20And there was
37:22a second shot
37:22of her dancing
37:23with Yellow.
37:29His name was Alistair.
37:31He went by Yellow.
37:32I don't know
37:32if he had yellow hair
37:33at that point,
37:35but he dyed
37:35his hair yellow.
37:36So that's how
37:37he got his nickname.
37:38Later that afternoon,
37:44I'm in my stateroom
37:46and I got a call.
37:48And the voice
37:49on the other end
37:49of the phone says,
37:50hi, I'm the head
37:51of security on the boat.
37:53And he said,
37:54I'm going to need
37:55to get your master
37:56tapes from you.
37:58The cruise ship
37:59knew my camera guy
38:01had been shooting
38:02in the dance club.
38:04I'm like, really?
38:05That's not going
38:06to happen.
38:08I don't give
38:08my master tapes
38:09to anybody.
38:11No, screw you.
38:15I took this tape
38:17and I did a digital dub
38:18of the Beta SP,
38:20popped it in
38:21a cassette shell,
38:22labeled it with my name
38:23and my room number,
38:25and I gave it
38:26to the FBI.
38:29The footage
38:30is significant
38:31because it would help
38:32basically find
38:33anybody that she was with
38:35before she went missing.
38:37You can see Amy
38:37and Alistair Douglas
38:38together throughout the night.
38:40Now we're beginning
38:41to find that timeline,
38:43to really pick apart
38:44and peel that onion back
38:45on what could have occurred,
38:47who saw her,
38:49where she was,
38:49what was going on
38:50at that time.
38:54When I saw the flyer
38:56with Amy's picture on it,
38:58I was like,
39:00oh my God.
39:01You know?
39:02I saw her.
39:03My friend and I,
39:05we had gone to the nightclub
39:06that night
39:07and I saw Amy.
39:11She did kind of stand out to me
39:12because there wasn't
39:14a lot of young people
39:15on the boat.
39:17Yeah, I remember
39:18talking to them.
39:19Amy, she had graduated,
39:21she'd gotten an apartment.
39:23You know,
39:23she had all these things
39:24going for her.
39:26And, you know,
39:27at the time,
39:27I'm 18
39:28and still trying
39:30to figure it out.
39:34My friend and I,
39:35we went back to the room
39:37after the nightclub closed.
39:39Then we decided
39:40we weren't sleepy.
39:42So we just decided
39:43to go hang out
39:45on the top deck.
39:45We were sitting
39:49on that deck
39:50for a while.
39:50We weren't ready
39:51to go back
39:52to the room.
39:53It was wee morning hours,
39:56sometime between
39:56five and six.
39:57I saw Amy
40:03and this guy
40:04that worked
40:05on the boat
40:05together
40:06in this glass elevator
40:08that I could see
40:09to my right.
40:11The glass elevator
40:13went up
40:14to the nightclub.
40:16Even though it was closed,
40:17it was a very well-lit
40:19elevator.
40:20I could tell right away
40:22who it was.
40:23It was the bass player
40:24and Amy.
40:25Amy looked like
40:28she was staring
40:29at something.
40:30I watched them
40:32until they rode
40:32completely to the top
40:34and they exited
40:36the elevator.
40:39Ten, fifteen minutes
40:40after I saw them,
40:42he was coming
40:44from the front
40:45of the boat.
40:46So to my left,
40:48he walked
40:49down the top deck.
40:51Never says a word,
40:52just kind of a brisk
40:53walk past us.
40:55Alone.
40:56I thought it was
40:57very strange
40:58because in the nightclub,
41:00he had tried to,
41:01you know,
41:02get us to talk to him.
41:03We're alone
41:04on this top deck.
41:06You know,
41:06he just walks
41:07right by us.
41:10Doesn't even look at us.
41:12You know,
41:13I just
41:13kind of got a bad vibe.
41:16You know,
41:16immediately I thought,
41:17well,
41:18where's Amy?
41:19If the two young women
41:23saw Amy and Alistair Douglas
41:24together after 5.30
41:26or whatever it may be,
41:28it could be a game changer.
41:29You would know
41:30and confirm
41:31that she actually
41:32could have left the cabin.
41:34But unfortunately,
41:35we can't confirm
41:36the time
41:37because the door lock
41:38would have
41:38when passengers
41:39entered their cabin.
41:40but not,
41:44of course,
41:45when they exited
41:45their cabin.
41:50To us,
41:51you know,
41:51it looked like
41:52he could be
41:53suspect number one.
41:54And this was
41:55international waters,
41:56so we can't
41:57detain anyone.
41:58We can ask questions,
42:00but that's about it.
42:01We interviewed him
42:03and subsequently
42:05he was polygraphed.
42:09He admitted
42:10that he knew
42:11who Amy was.
42:12He admitted
42:13that he had flirted
42:14with her.
42:15He said,
42:15you know,
42:15I did that
42:16and that's kind
42:17of what I do,
42:18that he's kind
42:18of a flirt
42:19and he would,
42:20you know,
42:20get flirtatious
42:21with many of
42:22the female passengers.
42:24But anything
42:25to do with
42:25her disappearance,
42:27you know,
42:27he vehemently denied.
42:31The unfortunate part
42:32is the timing.
42:33Those statements
42:34where two young women
42:35saw Amy and Alistair
42:36Douglas together,
42:37you just don't know
42:38is the time
42:39actually correct.
42:42Ultimately,
42:44the polygraph results
42:45were not conclusive.
42:47You know,
42:47if we had concrete evidence
42:48or working with
42:49the local police department,
42:51Alistair Douglas
42:52would have been arrested,
42:53but we didn't have that.
42:54But, I mean,
42:55he was bothered,
42:56you know,
42:57by what was going on,
42:58you know,
42:59for whatever reason.
43:00Either he was bothered
43:01because he had something
43:01to do with it
43:02or he was bothered
43:02because he had nothing
43:03to do with it,
43:04but he was bothered.
43:08The cruise was coming
43:09to its end.
43:12So, at that time,
43:14we were losing access
43:15to anything on the boat,
43:16any witnesses,
43:17suspects,
43:18in the potential crime scene.
43:21If you don't have a body,
43:23you can't really determine
43:24exactly what happened.
43:26You still have
43:26several scenarios.
43:27many things
43:28could have occurred.
43:30Did she inadvertently fall off?
43:31Wasn't feeling well,
43:33felt sick,
43:34by mistake,
43:34was on the balcony,
43:35fell off into the water?
43:38Did she commit suicide?
43:41Was furniture moved?
43:42Did she step on something?
43:43And did she jump overboard?
43:45The sliding door
43:46on the balcony
43:47was ajar.
43:48Did she walk back through?
43:50Did she go up to the deck
43:51to watch the sunrise?
43:52Did she go out to smoke?
43:54Did something occur
43:55when she was up on the deck?
43:56Did she meet somebody?
43:58You know,
43:58whether it was that night
43:59and the previous night.
44:00Did she walk off the ship,
44:02never return?
44:03Did something nefarious occur
44:05where she smuggled off the ship?
44:08That puzzle is extremely difficult
44:10to put together.
44:11We had a very close friend.
44:21He basically said to us,
44:23I do not want you
44:24to dock in Puerto Rico
44:26because I think
44:28it's just going to be
44:29too tough on you
44:30with the news.
44:32Would you rather
44:33just go home now
44:35and be with your family?
44:37So we flew out
44:42of St. Thomas
44:42on the 27th.
44:48I don't remember
44:50a whole lot about the flight
44:51coming back home
44:53except that
44:54we were leaving her
44:56and she was supposed
44:59to be with us.
45:01If she is out there
45:02lost
45:03or being held
45:04against her will
45:05or being in a bad situation,
45:07whatever it is,
45:08then, you know,
45:09flying home
45:10felt like giving up.
45:13As we were coming
45:14into Chesterfield Airport,
45:16the wind was blowing
45:19like crazy
45:19and the jet was just
45:22all over the place
45:24coming in for a landing.
45:25I'd never been
45:26on a plane
45:27that had that much turbulence
45:28or that much, you know,
45:30wind trying to land.
45:32The wings tilting
45:33to the sides.
45:35The funny thing
45:36about it is
45:37my heart,
45:39you know,
45:39I wasn't scared.
45:40My heart wasn't beating.
45:42I was just thinking
45:43to myself,
45:44if the thing crashes
45:46on the runway,
45:47then this thing
45:48will be over.
45:53We were picked up
45:54at the airport
45:55and taken to our home.
45:58All of my brothers
45:59and sisters were there.
46:01my mom was there.
46:05Ava just, like,
46:05collapsed in her mom's arms
46:07when she walked in.
46:08Just watching Ava
46:09with her
46:11and her comfort,
46:12it was like,
46:13you know,
46:13watching, like,
46:13a little kid
46:14be in their mom's arms.
46:16Nobody knew
46:16what to say,
46:17what to do.
46:19We had a prayer vigil
46:21asking God
46:22to watch over Amy
46:24and get her back
46:25home to us.
46:26And I remember
46:27it bringing me
46:29to my knees.
46:31And Ava Bradley
46:32came over
46:33and held me up.
46:35I mean,
46:36her daughter is missing,
46:37and Ava held me up.
46:39It took a few days
46:42to be able
46:43to eat again
46:45and form a sentence.
46:48But from that point forward,
46:50we never even thought
46:52about laying down.
46:53We started a command center
46:55to reach out
46:57to every authority
46:59that we could think of,
47:00the different countries' embassies.
47:03We had hotlines,
47:05contacted media.
47:07A young woman
47:07traveling with her parents
47:08simply vanishes
47:09from the ship
47:10in the open sea.
47:11Amy Bradley vanished
47:13just as the ship
47:14was docking.
47:15She hasn't been seen since.
47:18We tried to have faith
47:20and hope
47:21because I know somebody
47:23and there's something.
47:24If you have any information
47:25on the whereabouts
47:26of Amy Bradley,
47:27please call the number
47:28on your screen.
47:29The minute I saw the picture,
47:32I went like,
47:32are you kidding me?
47:34This is not right.
47:37I was there
47:38four months later
47:38when I saw her.
47:40I know where she is.
47:46Amy's alive.
47:47I was there
47:49and I was just there
47:50and there
47:50is not right.
47:52I can't wait.
47:53I was there
47:53because I'm not going to say
47:53where she is.
47:54This is not right now.
47:54I have to talk again.
47:55I'm out of my mind.
47:56I'm not going to say
47:57why she is there
47:57because you have to say
47:58this is not right.
47:58But I know where she is.
48:00I know where she is.
