Transcript
00:00Welcome to Miss Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most beloved characters
00:09that should have lasted longer in their respective series, whether that's film or TV.
00:14Naturally, there will be spoilers.
00:17You have your mother's eyes.
00:24Number 10, George O'Malley, Grey's Anatomy.
00:27I could have sworn it was George.
00:28I got voicemail.
00:29He's not answering.
00:31He has a freckle in his right hand. It's shaped like Texas. I used to tease him about it.
00:37I'll check.
00:37This long-running medical drama doesn't lack for beloved characters or two hasty exes,
00:42but perhaps the most devastating is George's exit.
00:45A fellow intern with Meredith and the others, George lasted until this sixth season,
00:49where he died by jumping in front of a bus to save a woman's life.
00:53Who are his kidneys for?
00:55I gave all that to the nurse.
00:56I would like you to tell me.
00:58Oh, I wonder when do you stop making sense?
01:05Molly Kemper.
01:07Eight years old.
01:08Hypoplastic kidneys.
01:09His heroic death is touching, but in hindsight came much too soon, considering the show is now anticipating its 22nd season.
01:17The show perhaps knew this, because in season 17, actor T.R. Knight reprised his role, appearing in Meredith's visions.
01:25R.I.P. King.
01:26You changed my life, George.
01:29I didn't say it then, but it's true.
01:32Number 9.
01:33Pietro Maximoff slash Quicksilver
01:36Avengers Age of Ultron
01:37The twin brother of Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver endeared himself to fans with his quick wit and his dedication to his sister, and of course, his super speed.
01:58His death, giving his life to protect Hawkeye, is made all the more devastating for these reasons.
02:04He was also the first of the Avengers to be killed off.
02:06Why Pietro suffered this unceremonious fate is unclear.
02:31Many believe it had to do with the rights of the character, debated between 20th Century Fox and Marvel.
02:36Perhaps Quicksilver's death raised the stakes more, or Marvel wanted a good surprise twist.
02:41Either way, Wanda's grief for her lost brother leads him to return, seemingly alive in WandaVision.
02:48We feel you, Wanda.
02:50Pietro.
02:59Number 8.
03:00Prue Halliwell
03:01Charmed
03:02You see this?
03:05Watch.
03:06What the hell was that?
03:11My secret.
03:12I did that with my mind.
03:14You're telekinetic.
03:15Yes, well, no, actually, it's just so much more than that.
03:19I'm a witch.
03:21Killing off the main character of a series is something few shows have done, for good reason.
03:26One of three Halliwell witches, Prue was the oldest and the most responsible.
03:30She was also the most powerful with her telekinetic abilities.
03:32But at the end of season three, Prue was fatally attacked by the demon Shaxx.
03:37This extremely early departure of a major character was for good reason.
03:41Prue's actress, Shannon Doherty, had been fired from the show.
03:45While the producers considered replacing Prue's actress, none of the options panned out.
03:58Instead, the show replaced Prue with a secret half-sister, Paige, in season four.
04:03It was definitely too soon.
04:05Go tell her we love her.
04:12Number seven, Glenn Rhee, The Walking Dead.
04:15But I'm a man of my word.
04:18First impressions are important.
04:20One of the show's most controversial moments, the death of this pizza delivery boy turned zombie survivor, still hurts the most.
04:36While Glenn's death was in the comics, the execution in the series was particularly devastating.
04:41Saviour's leader, Negan, had already picked his victim, Abraham, when Daryl's outbursts led him to take his grisly revenge on Glenn.
04:48She is a vampire bat.
04:54It's a scene all the more heartbreaking when Glenn's death leaves his love Maggie bereft.
05:00Glenn's departure from the show divided audiences, to the point where some even stopped watching the show afterward.
05:05Whether necessary or not, it's a death that came too soon for many's taste.
05:09Please let us.
05:16These are families.
05:18These are family too.
05:26Number six, Stringer Bell, The Wire.
05:29Money?
05:34Is that it?
05:36Because if it is, man, I could be a better friend to y'all alive.
05:39This series doesn't lack for characters whose end came too soon.
05:43Omar Little, for instance, was a beloved character who also met an untimely end.
05:48But Stringer Bell's case is an interesting one.
05:50Played by Idris Elba, Bell was drug lord Avon Barksdale's second-in-command, involved in money laundering, bribery, and other criminal activity.
05:59By season three, Avon betrayed Stringer, leading to his death at the hands of Omar and brother Mazzone.
06:17His shocking death is made all the harder by the fact that Elba was also unhappy with the development.
06:21It still hurts years later.
06:23It seemed like I can't say nothing to change your own minds.
06:33Number five, Bob Newby, Stranger Things.
06:36This show has tons of awful deaths.
06:52For starters, there's Eddie Munson's poignant sacrifice in season four.
06:55Then there's Nancy's friend and beloved fan-favorite Barb, whose death prompted a hashtag justice for Barb campaign.
07:02But this wholesome character's death packs a whole new level of heartbreak.
07:06Run!
07:16Bob was only a minor character, but his kindness and sweet personality endeared him to many fans.
07:22His relationship with Joyce was also heartening to see unfold.
07:25Alas, his end came when he was attacked by demodogs in Hawkins' National Lab.
07:29Even showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer were affected, admitting that they were sobbing while writing the scene.
07:34At least he died a hero's death.
07:46Number four, Matthew Crawley, Downton Abbey.
07:49Someone to see you, Mr. Crawley.
07:52There's nothing in my diary.
07:54It's Lady Grantham.
07:56Well, in that case, she'll run at once.
07:59I'm Cora.
07:59To what do I owe the...
08:01I hope I'm not a disappointment.
08:04Now this was uncalled for.
08:06Matthew and Mary had finally broken off their engagements to other people and admitted their love to each other.
08:11At the beginning of season three, they were even getting married.
08:14And Mary was pregnant with his child.
08:16Can this hot and dusty traveller come in?
08:18Say hello to your son and heir.
08:29She delivers the baby safely, and Matthew gets to meet his newborn.
08:32And then, while driving home from the hospital, Matthew dies in a car accident.
08:36After surviving both World War I and the Spanish Flu, a car crash ends this character's life.
08:41Naturally, fans were devastated by this shocking turn of events, and still mourn for what could never be.
08:47We don't always get our just desserts.
09:03Number three, Tracy McConnell, How I Met Your Mother.
09:06You know what comes after the one?
09:08The next one.
09:09Oh, yeah.
09:10Well, I don't really see that happening anytime soon.
09:15Hi.
09:15Is this room seven?
09:17Fans had long speculated that something must have happened to the titular mother of this series,
09:25but the reveal of the mother's fate in the finale of the show was still shocking.
09:29Before the finale, we learned many things about Tracy, even that she headed her own band, Super Freakonomics.
09:34Other characters of the show even interact with her in positive ways,
09:37and her winning personality endeared her quickly to fans.
09:40But in the finale, we learn that Tracy died of an undisclosed illness.
09:44Thank every god there is or ever was or will be, and the whole universe and anyone else I could possibly thank.
09:52I saw that beautiful girl on that train platform and that I had the guts to stand up,
10:03walk over to her, tap her on the shoulder, open my mouth and speak.
10:10To make matters worse, Ted gets together with Robin at the end.
10:13To say this finale was controversial is an understatement.
10:16Remember, remember, remember, all we fight for.
10:27Number two, Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks.
10:30Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.
10:32Well, I'm very impressed.
10:33I'd suggest that what you fear the most is fear itself.
10:36This is very wise.
10:37Arguably the best defence against the dark arts teacher Harry ever had,
10:41it's safe to say that Remus Lupin is everyone's favourite werewolf.
10:44A long-time friend of Harry's father, while they were in school,
10:47Remus bonds with Harry and helps him out immensely.
10:50Audiences were further endeared to him, thanks to the trauma resulting from his lycanthropy.
10:55Professor Lupin.
10:56It was heartening to see him find love with Tonks, who accepted him for who he was.
11:08When Deathly Hallows came out, revealing his and Tonks' tragic deaths during the Battle of Hogwarts,
11:14fans everywhere were devastated.
11:16Even worse, their deaths leave their son, Teddy, an orphan.
11:19We're not crying, we've just got something in our eye.
11:26Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honourable mentions.
11:34Dr. Kuttner.
11:35House.
11:36Because there is nothing deadlier than depression.
11:3928-year-old male, single gunshot wound to the right temple.
11:41No pulse.
11:42Alert Prince from Plainsboro, have a travel unit ready.
11:46His pupil's dilated, his head's whole.
11:48Still no pulse, come on Kuttner!
11:50Rita Morgan.
11:51Dexter.
11:52That bathtub scene will haunt us until our dying days.
11:56Captain Phasma.
12:06Star Wars Episode 8, The Last Jedi.
12:08Her promise as a villain was squandered with this early exit.
12:20Ashley and Ashlyn.
12:22Final Destination 3.
12:23We know tanning is bad for the skin, but really?
12:32Scott Summers slash Cyclops.
12:35X- The Last Stand.
12:36Imagine being killed by your own wife.
12:39Ouch.

13:05Number 1.
13:08Everyone in the car.
13:09The Mist.
13:16Just kidding.
13:18Number 1.
13:18Tara McClane.
13:19Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
13:24Your shirt.
13:27Tara?
13:27This isn't the first time the Buffyverse had a controversial death, admittedly, but Tara's
13:32departure from the iconic show is still one fans debate about to this day.
13:36Tara was Willow's girlfriend, but also a formidable witch in her own right, with a beautiful character
13:42arc about overcoming her shyness and embracing her inner strength.
13:46These things take time.
13:47We'll figure it out.
13:49Sure, we'll decipher codes, foil, evil schemes.
13:53Finally get out of bed.
13:55I was with you up until there.
13:57In season 6, however, she is fatally shot.
14:00Her death was significant, prompting Willow to succumb to her dark powers.
14:04Even so, many fans quit watching the show after her death.
14:07Showrunner Joss Whedon and Tara's actress Amber Benson even had to clarify there was no
14:12ill intent behind the decision.
14:14Perhaps there is such a thing as succeeding too well in shocking your audience.
14:24Which other character's death did you feel came too fast too soon?
14:27Let us know down in the comments.
14:30And tell Mr. Matthew he must wait his turn.
14:34He's seen the baby, and they haven't.
