00:00Meanwhile, for call center agents in an online lending company in Pasig today was just another busy day attending to their clients.
00:07Not until the National Bureau of Investigation, or NBI, along with Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commissioner Paok, raided their office.
00:15According to NBI, this company harasses their clients to force them to pay their debts, as Arnoel Talakai reports.
00:24These call center agents are doing their best to cover up their faces.
00:29Some use their hands to hide their heads.
00:32These agents are sending harassing text messages to their clients who fail to pay their debts in an online lending app.
00:40This prompted the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission, or Paok, and the National Bureau of Investigation, or NBI, to conduct a raid in Pasig City.
01:13So, na-access nila yun.
01:15Authorities even caught one of the agents sending a harassing text messages to one of their clients, and the receiver of the message even responded, asking for the reason behind the harassment.
01:26This was denied by one of the team leaders.
01:29Aware ako na isa po siyang lending company. Pero hindi po ako aware na may mga ganito na may mga harassment. Pero nung pumasok po ako dito, wala naman po ako naririnig na ganun.
01:41I am here right now inside the server room where they place their server or the transmitter.
01:48And this server or this equipment, this is the equipment that they are going to use for sending text messaging to all their clients.
01:56And according to NBI, this server, it contains 10 terabytes and it can send maybe a million text messages.
02:05According to Pao, all the 178 Filipino workers of the said call center will face charges including the alleged Chinese national who runs and owns the call center company.
02:18Mananagot sila, pero titimbangin namin kung hanggang saan ang pananagotan nila.
02:23Pao says the charges that they will be facing are cybercrime law, SIM card registration act, and data privacy law.
02:32According to the data, Pao alone, they have already received 15,000 complaints in relation to harassing and threatening text messages from online lending companies since the agency created a one-stop shop on such complaints.
02:47The data, Pao says, does not include data from the PNP and NBI yet.
