00:12To further uplift the morale of Filipino seafarers and fishermen, the National Maritime Polytechnic spearheaded the launch of the Maritime Workforce Factbook portal.
00:21It is a data analytics web portal that contains information related to maritime concerns which can be used in the creation of relevant policies.
00:30In the mandate of the Presidential Office of Maritime Concerns, there's a need also to understand how we are contributing to the international seafaring industry.
00:41And I would suppose that this portal would help us come up with relevant maritime policies.
00:50It will help the government.
00:52During the research forum, researchers shared studies that give value to the country's maritime resources.
00:58It's one way to raise public awareness on the importance of the Philippines' natural resources.
01:03Years ago, we didn't realize that we have so much or so much waters, I mean, gifted to us.
01:13And we just realized that it's actually seven times larger than our land area.
01:21So, there's so much resources and so much potential.
01:24And that's why we see that the forum AA activities like this is an opportunity for us to tell the public that we have these resources,
01:34we have this big maritime area that we need to protect and preserve.
01:41One of the key focuses of the study is the challenges faced by seafarers, including the harassment experience by women on board and how to address them.
01:50Based sa kanilang mga binigay na mga pahayag, yung mga nagbubuli sa kanila or gumagamit ng verbal harassment ay yung mga superiors nila in which nag-a-underestimate din ng kanilang mga kakayahan.
02:07Improving knowledge through policy formulation and programs that aim to increase the education level of fishers is one of the primary goals of this research.
02:16So, for the maritime policies, makakatulong po ang research results kasi nga ang isang findings ng study is the low education levels ng mga fishermen or migrant fishers natin na Pilipino.
02:33It will also broaden the knowledge of Filipino fishers so they can fully understand their rights over the waters they sail.
02:39This is one of the government's priorities, especially amid claims of foreigners over Philippine waters.
02:45If yung educational level po nila are higher and they are aware of these fishing laws and regulations kasi isa din po itong problem or challenge,
02:57I think it will help them naman to assert the right po as fishermen.
