00:35Good morning.
00:36Well, thank you for joining us to.
00:38Well, can you tell us something patungkol po dito sa brain rot?
00:40At ano po bang ibig sabihin nito?
00:42At nakapaloob po dito?
00:45Ang brain rot, actually, that is the word of the year in 2024,
00:50ng Oxford, that's parang Oxford's Dictionary sa word of the year for 2024.
01:07or ability natin to make decisions.
01:09Ito ay nasisira or bumababa dahil sa masyado natin pag-expose sa mga unintelligent or sinatawag natin na time-consuming
01:19na wala ka namang makupulot na aral when it comes to social media or to videos in the screen or in the internet.
01:28Yan ang sinatawag na brain rot.
01:30Sa umpisa, akala mo, it's very pleasurable kasi nanonood ka, natatawag and everything,
01:36pero pag-extended period of time yan, pagkatapos nun, instead na ma-refresh ka,
01:41parang pakiramdam mo, parang you're cloudy, na parang nakokotuse ka,
01:46na parang gusto mo nalang bumalik sa kam at matulog ulit.
01:49So that is actually brain rot.
01:50Instead of stimulating you, it actually does the opposite.
01:53Mas nasisira yung brain functions mo.
01:57That is yun ang ibig sabihin.
02:12there is no actual link na makikita natin between increase of social media at brain rot,
02:18it is observed na nung tumaas ang social media or nagkaroon ng social media,
02:23tumataas din yung sinatawag natin na brain rot.
02:26Actually, the term brain rot, this is not new.
02:29It has been termed since 1894, if I'm not mistaken.
02:32It's just that ngayon, in the time of social media,
02:37mas nakikita natin ito.
02:39At pinaka, ano eh, simple lang yung definition nito nung noon eh.
02:43It's like choosing simple things to do instead of more complex things to do.
02:55Yes, it's funny.
02:56You know?
02:57Yes, it's interesting.
02:58May tinatawag tayong doomscrolling.
03:00Doomscrolling is you just focus on news that is negative,
03:04yung tipong ganon, instead of actually learning something.
03:08Actually, lahat tayo guilty dito.
03:10Kasi kahit ako minsan, pag walang ginagawa,
03:13kung ano-ano lang mga lumalabas sa feed ko.
03:15Gusto mo lang maliba.
03:16Tapos minsan, di ba dahil sa algorithm,
03:19yung mga lagi ko napapanood,
03:20babobard ka lang lalo ng mga ganong content.
03:23Now, I want to know,
03:24ano, Doc, yung pwede natin gawin
03:25para hindi tayo maapektuhan masyado nito negatively,
03:29lalo na po siguro yung mga bata?
03:33Of course, activities.
03:34You know, going out with your friends.
03:36Actually, reading a book.
03:38Reading is actually very, you know,
03:40it's very intuitive.
03:41It's actually called
03:42dito sa brain rot.
03:44Because it stimulates your brain.
03:46You know, you go in for hobbies.
03:48You know, you go outside.
03:49You become social.
03:50When you say social,
03:51it's that you go out with your friends.
03:52You know, you eat outside.
03:53You converse.
03:54Actually, even in the time of social media,
03:56yan din yung napapansin namin na bumababa.
03:58It seems that our younger generation
04:00has lost the art of conversation.
04:04Kasi puro text lang eh.
04:05And in text,
04:06you really can't tell
04:07whether the person is being sarcastic,
04:10angry na pala,
04:11naiinis na sa'yo,
04:12and everything.
04:13Because it's through text.
04:14Unlike when you're talking face-to-face
04:16with a person,
04:17makikita mo,
04:18ay, naiinis ata siya sa sinabi ko.
04:21Uy, mukhang tumawa siya sa sinabi ko.
04:23So, it's the art of conversation.
04:25So, you go out,
04:26be active,
04:28have physical activities,
04:29have hobbies,
04:30and go,
04:31and when we say social,
04:32be social,
04:33you go out and meet other people
04:35or meet your friends.
04:36Maganda yung mga sinabi ni Dok.
04:38Well, Doktora,
04:42Well, of course, to survive,
04:43usually ngayon,
04:44ang kailangan,
04:46tatay at nanay,
04:47nagtatrabaho,
04:48so, naiiwan ang mga bata sa bahay.
04:50Kasama ang gadgets.
04:51Gadgets.
04:51At minsan nga,
04:52ginagawang yaya yung mga gadgets eh.
04:55So, anong mga ipapayo ninyo
04:57sa mga magulang?
05:00It's like this po.
05:01It's quite,
05:03katulad po ng pag-uusap natin ngayon,
05:05there are times also
05:06that we look at our social media and everything,
05:08but everything in moderation.
05:10Yun po yung sinasabi ko.
05:12Hindi ko masama na,
05:13kasi pag sinabi mo,
05:14tigil mo yan.
05:15Hindi titigil yan eh.
05:17Pag sinabi,
05:17titigil lang,
05:18pag nandyan ka,
05:19pag umalis ka na,
05:21ayan na naman sila,
05:21ariat naman sila.
05:23But what we're saying is that,
05:24you do it in moderation.
05:26Usually,
05:27studies in the States have shown that,
05:29for teenage girls,
05:30usually it's a long three hours
05:31na nakababag dyan sa social media.
05:33Imagine what they could do
05:35in those three hours.
05:37Have hobbies,
05:38you know,
05:39go outside,
05:40you know,
05:40you play outside,
05:42you mingle with others.
05:43Ang dami mo magagawa
05:44in those three hours,
05:46kesa yung,
05:46nasa social media ka lang baba,
05:48and you're not interacting
05:49with anybody.
05:51Another thing also,
05:52pwede po ninyo sabihin po
05:54sa mga anak ninyo,
05:56lalo na po yung mga short videos,
05:58TikTok,
05:59you know,
05:59or YouTube videos,
06:01yung mga short clips
06:02and everything,
06:03it actually po destroys
06:04attention span.
06:06Kasi po,
06:06ang ikli lang po nun eh,
06:07so the attention is that.
06:09Pero when it's applied outside,
06:11like for example,
06:12you need to focus on schoolwork,
06:13you need to concentrate.
06:15There are certain things in school
06:16that maybe would require
06:18your decision making.
06:19Natatanggal yun.
06:20So, yun din po
06:21yung isang masamang epekto po
06:23when it comes to,
06:24when it comes to,
06:25you know,
06:26the short clips,
06:27the,
06:27yung tinatawag natin,
06:28unintelligent
06:29or unchallenging
06:30trivial online content.
06:32So you can tell your kids that.
06:33Another is actually din po,
06:35you tell them in moderation,
06:37so you can set a time.
06:38Okay,
06:39so for this time,
06:40kailangan nag-aaral ka,
06:41tapusin mo muning homework mo,
06:42then you're allowed.
06:43You know,
06:44certain one or two hours
06:45of doing your social media
06:47to catch up with your friends,
06:48and then you sleep.
06:49So maganda rin po,
06:50yung nabibigan po
06:51ng routine yung mga bata,
06:52it serves as some sort of
06:54like a structure
06:54pooper for them
06:56so that they could go
06:57about their usual activities.
06:59Another thing,
07:00another thing din po is,
07:02usually,
07:02they multitask eh.
07:04When I say multitask,
07:06habang gumagawa ng homework,
07:07nagsa-search siya,
07:08nagsa-sagot ng mga text
07:09or email,
07:10at the same time,
07:11nagsasurf,
07:12nagsascroll,
07:13and they could go
07:14into doomscrolling,
07:15you know,
07:15or they could just,
07:16their attention could be
07:18caught by your YouTube
07:19or maybe your TikTok videos.
07:21So you could actually also
07:23tell your kids
07:24to be mindful of that.
07:25So yun din po
07:27ang gagawa din po natin.
07:29Mahalaga yung mga
07:30recommendations ni Doc
07:31kasi nga naman yung mga bata,
07:33ang aga rin talaga nila
07:34na-expose sa gadgets.
07:36Nawawala sa focus
07:37tapos highly addictive
07:38yung pag-concentrate mo
07:40sa mga napapunod mo
07:41sa social media.
07:42Mahalagang may routine,
07:43at saka sabi ni Doc,
07:44in moderation lang yung paggamit.
07:45Well, thank you very much po
07:47sa mga impormasyong
07:48ibanhagi po rin nyo sa amin.
07:50I'm Dr. Carmina Bernardo,
07:52isa pong psychiatrist.
07:53Thank you, Doc.
07:53Maraming salamat, Doc.
