Detectives are working to piece together how a 7-month-old drowned at a campsite north of Gympie. The boy's mother found him in a lake on Saturday morning. Despite desperate attempts from members of the public, he couldn't be saved.

00:00Combing through a family's campsite, police investigate how a seven month old drowned.
00:07We know what's happened, we're actually just investigating further to try and establish why and how this incident occurred.
00:15Emergency services were called to Chatsworth Park north of Gympie about 10.30 Saturday morning after the baby boy was found in the lake.
00:24The mother of the child did retrieve the child from the water, it's been a very traumatic experience for her clearly.
00:29Onlookers called triple zero and attempted CPR, but the baby died in Gympie Hospital.
00:34We're treating this as an unexplained death at this point in time.
00:37Police say the boy's parents had set up camp about 40 metres from the lake on Friday night as they headed home to North Queensland.
00:45Officers have spoken to the mother and father, as well as other visitors at the park.
00:50Chatsworth Park is a well known rest stop and campsite area for highway travellers.
00:55Police want to talk to anyone who is in the area on Saturday morning, even if they were just driving past.
