Scott Jennings speaks at Turning Point USA's "Student Action Summit" in Tampa, Florida.
Transcript
00:00Good afternoon, Tampa.
00:05I'm not used to hearing applause when I walk out onto the stage at the office these days.
00:10It's all garlic and crucifixes for yours truly.
00:15Or should I say, how do you do, fellow comrades?
00:17That's what they'll be saying in New York City soon enough, right?
00:20You know, I'm not sure why people are mad at me on these cable panels all the time.
00:27I'm just the designated driver at a party where everybody else is trying to crash the
00:31country into a ditch.
00:34I don't know whether I'm the Caitlin Clark of CNN or she's the Scott Jennings of the WNBA.
00:39Either way, we take a lot of abuse, but we score a lot of points along the way.
00:45I actually admire her, but I don't get it.
00:50They finally found someone who can make a layup and sell tickets.
00:54And their reaction is, let's see how smart she is after we gouge your eyes out.
01:00The trick to being a good pundit, it's also good advice for life.
01:04Just tell the truth and keep smiling.
01:07You'd be shocked at how few people can do it.
01:10But I'm not here today to talk about cable news or basketball.
01:15I'm here to talk about something bigger.
01:18About what's happening in the heartland of America.
01:21I'm here to talk about the revolution of common sense.
01:30That's the title of my upcoming book.
01:32And the phrase is courtesy of Donald J. Trump.
01:36And I wrote it, absolutely.
01:39And I wrote it because half the country deserves a defense of perhaps the greatest opening six
01:46months of any presidential term ever.
01:49And because I am tired of mindless liberals telling me every night, any day now, you all
01:56are all going to regret your votes from last November.
02:01Does a single person in this hall wish you could hop in a hot tub time machine and go back
02:08to November and vote for Kamala Harris or that buffoon Tim Walz?
02:14Hell no.
02:16Ladies and gentlemen, this is what I voted for.
02:20This is what we voted for.
02:25I wrote this book because I'm tired of gender studies majors lecturing welders about economics.
02:32I'm tired of condescending garbage from a political party that cares more about dudes who want
02:37to be women than dudes who just want to be dudes.
02:41The truth of the matter is, in America, common sense is back.
02:47And it's not, yes, it's not coming from the people who pump out the narratives and the
02:52BS.
02:54It's coming from places like this.
02:56From the grassroots, from middle America, from the bottom up, from people like our friend
03:01Charlie, and from every single person in this room.
03:07And who kicked this revolution into high gear?
03:11Who turned common sense into a battle cry?
03:14Who campaigned without flinching?
03:17And who governs without apology?
03:19The President of the United States, Donald J. Trump.
03:26Now here's a reality check for my colleagues.
03:29The President's having the best six months of any President of the modern era.
03:33His policies reinforce and advance the conservative movement, and they put America back on track.
03:39We encourage work instead of government dependence.
03:43We prioritize American citizens over illegal aliens.
03:47We secure the border instead of pretending that it doesn't exist.
03:51We unleash American energy instead of bottling it up.
03:55We keep taxes low on the people who actually pay them.
03:59The working men and women of this country.
04:02From the assembly lines, to the barber shops, to the diners, to the garbage trucks, to the
04:07farmers in the fields.
04:09Hardworking Americans that just want to get up and go to work, provide for their families,
04:14make their lives a little bit better without being condescended to by the elites in Washington,
04:18D.C.
04:20They now have a champion in the White House.
04:22Oh, and by the way, he's delivering world peace along the way.
04:28The Middle East, Africa.
04:32For God's sakes, give this man the Nobel Peace Prize already.
04:40And he's doing it all in the face of a hysterical opposition that has not recovered from the trauma
04:45of last November.
04:47Let's see.
04:48The Clintons, the Obamas, feel free to boo along.
04:53The Bidens, the Harrises, the Never Trumpers, the leftist media, the narratives, the lies,
05:01the political information distribution complex.
05:05Gone, gone, gone, gone, gone.
05:13All thanks to our President, Donald Trump.
05:16But here's the best part.
05:17He's not alone.
05:19He's got a movement.
05:21It's young, it's smart, and it's hungry to win.
05:27Now judging by the statements of some of my sparring partners lately, the left is panicked.
05:35Why?
05:36Because you aren't playing by their rules anymore.
05:40They want you to sit down and shut the F up.
05:44They want you to stay in your lane.
05:46Little did they realize that you would build your own road and go right through them.
05:56You all stand unapologetically for free speech in the places that they thought they owned.
06:02And Trump is bringing radical campuses like Harvard, Columbia, and UPenn to heal as we speak.
06:13Now let me be blunt and give you a direct message.
06:16We cannot concede any ground.
06:19Not an inch.
06:21Not a campus.
06:22Not a corporate hallway.
06:24Not a school board.
06:25Not a TV network.
06:27Not a single corner of our culture will we concede.
06:31And certainly not a dictionary, which is under assault from people who think words and DNA
06:36no longer have any meaning.
06:39Trump scares these people to death because they know he's gone right around them, straight
06:44to the American people.
06:46Our old cultural and political emperors have no clothes.
06:50Now it's just a hateful, buck-necked mob, desperate to regain some relevance.
06:56But the thing I learned, and I have learned, is never ever give an inch to this mob.
07:02Everyone learns sooner or later.
07:05No appeasement is ever enough.
07:08But you know what scares them even more, I think, than Trump?
07:11It's actually young conservatives with microphones, cameras, fax, and no fear.
07:17They thought they could cancel you.
07:21You fought back.
07:22They thought they could silence you.
07:24You got louder.
07:25They thought you'd eventually give in and give up.
07:28But it looks to me like you're just getting started.
07:32They thought when Trump was gone, their nightmare would be over.
07:38Nope.
07:40This is how we win.
07:42Not by hiding, but by marching right into the heart of their spaces and saying with a
07:48smile, we're here to tell the truth, and the truth shall set us all free.
07:59Let me say this clearly.
08:01Western civilization is not a crime.
08:04It is a miracle from God.
08:06It is the worldview that gave us liberty, dignity, reason, beauty, and yes, our common sense.
08:14But it is under assault.
08:16The barbarians are at the gate.
08:18It's our job to defend it.
08:21You are the vanguard.
08:23You are the next chapter in this American story.
08:26The heirs to the Minutemen and the patriots who gave us this country in the first place.
08:31And with Donald Trump back in office, you have a president who believes in you.
08:36So let's keep going.
08:38Let's fight for the dignity of work.
08:41Let's defend the necessity of borders.
08:43Let's stand up for women instead of deviling and devaluing them.
08:47Let's build a future that rewards truth and talent instead of identity politics.
08:53And let's remind every radical university president and professor, every smug pundit, every one
09:00of these free Palestine yahoos, every never-Trumper who threw in with the enemies of Western civilization,
09:07we're not going anywhere.
09:10You know, my first job as a teenager back home in Kentucky was taking care of people's yards.
09:23I'm still in that business over at CNN.
09:27Mowing down fake narratives, trimming the hedges of hysteria, planting the seeds of common sense.
09:35And friends, I can report to you today that business is good.
09:39I want to thank Charlie for this invitation.
09:46I want to say God bless you.
09:47I want to say God bless this movement.
09:49I want to say God bless our president.
09:51And God bless the United States of America.
09:53Thank you all very much.
