00:02:01The following is a special presentation of HBO Sports.
00:02:31HBO, this The Late Night series, and working with me as always, HBO Boxing Analyst Larry Merchant.
00:02:37Larry, in the first Boxing After Dark edition on February 3, we caught lightning in a bottle, if you will, with the spectacular Barrera-McKinney bout.
00:02:45Now we are back in the same junior featherweight division, I should say, 122 pounds.
00:02:51Any chance we're going to get that lucky again tonight?
00:02:54You mean are we going to get another five-run homer?
00:02:56That's what it was.
00:02:56I'll settle for a two-run double, and that would be spectacular enough.
00:03:00One reason we're unlikely to get it is because both fighters, Jones and Canizales, have both promised us they don't want any part of such lightning.
00:03:14The classic fight we saw between McKinney and Barrera is rare because professional fighters know the cost of such fights, and they seldom get themselves into it.
00:03:27But when you rub two champions together and the stakes are high enough, sometimes you do get spontaneous combustion or lightning, and the stakes are high tonight.
00:03:39Down the yellow brick road, the winner has been promised a shot at Barrera, and that's a big-money fight in this division.
00:03:45And one that we'll all look forward to seeing, and when you talk about great fighters and big-money fights, you recall that our expert commentator for the Boxing After Dark series is the man regarded by most critics now, I think, as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, world super middleweight champion Roy Jones Jr.
00:04:01Roy, both Jr. Jones and Orlando Canizales have experienced enormous success in the past, and both have lost a big fight within the past two years.
00:04:09A lot of people see this as a make-or-break fight for both of them.
00:04:13Do you have any hunch as to which of the two fighters is better prepared to handle that kind of pressure tonight?
00:04:18Well, the pressure will be on both guys.
00:04:20The only thing is that Jr. Jones is at home, so I think the speedometer leans a little to his side of the board.
00:04:27However, never underestimate a fighter who is as well-skilled as Orlando Canizales.
00:04:33In my mind, two years ago, Orlando was one of the pound-for-pound best boxers in the world.
00:04:38Maybe he still is. I don't know.
00:04:40But we will find out tonight.
00:04:42Some guys have trouble fighting in their hometowns.
00:04:45Jr. Jones in this room has been sensational, winning all of his bouts and all of them with terrific performances.
00:04:50Let's take a look at the tail of the tape for Poison Jr. Jones of the Bushwick section of Brooklyn
00:04:56and Orlando Canizales from Laredo, Texas.
00:04:59And you can see that Jones gives up five years, gets back three-and-a-half inches in height and five-and-a-half inches in reach.
00:05:07This is the first time in his last seven fights, however, that Jr. Jones has had to make weight.
00:05:13Ever since moving up to 122 pounds, he's been fighting over the weight limit.
00:05:18Rules of the bout now with our unofficial scorer, Harold Letterman.
00:05:21The Orlando Canizales, Jr. Jones fight is scheduled for 12 rounds.
00:05:26Unusual rules for a title fight.
00:05:27The standing eight count is in effect.
00:05:29The three-knockdown rule is in effect.
00:05:32The doctor or the referee can stop the fight, and you cannot be saved by the bell in any round,
00:05:36including the 12th or final round.
00:05:38Jim.
00:05:38All right, Harold Letterman, and now the entry into this theater at Madison Square Garden,
00:05:47formerly known as the Felt Forum, formerly known as the Paramount Theater at Madison Square Garden.
00:05:53And we've mentioned that Jones has an unbeaten record in this room.
00:05:57In his last fight, January 12th, a first-round knockout against Armando Navarro next door
00:06:03in the big house at Madison Square Garden on the undercard of Roy Jones' first performance in this city.
00:06:09And Jr. was a little embarrassed to be fighting way down on the undercard near the beginning of that evening.
00:06:16He would like to earn some respect back tonight.
00:06:23I think another important key here is that Jr. has the reach.
00:06:27This is the type of fighter who his reach can make him be the better of the two
00:06:32because when you fight a shorter guy, particularly the Mexican fighters,
00:06:35then it just seems to work better for the reach.
00:06:38He was a physical phenomenon at 118 pounds.
00:06:41He still has a lot of advantages in the 122-pound weight class
00:06:45where he's likely to be taller than almost all of his opponents.
00:06:47There's the record.
00:06:49Both losses within the past two years.
00:06:5125 KOs for Jr. Jones trying to revive himself as a legitimate title contender.
00:06:58He won a world championship back at 118 pounds.
00:07:01A couple more notes on Poison Jr. Jones.
00:07:0633 of 41 fights have taken place in New York or New Jersey.
00:07:09He's 32-1 in those fights.
00:07:12And as we mentioned, it's been almost two years since he has had to make weight.
00:07:17But he did have to come down to the 122 limit for tonight's fight.
00:07:20Junior now under the tutelage of Tommy Brooks.
00:07:29His longtime trainer, Joey Fariello, recently passed away.
00:07:34And that could be a factor here in this fight because his new trainer has a different idea about how the game should be played.
00:07:44He's not trying to change him drastically, but he has tried to make him a little bit more cautious.
00:07:50The man in the black home box office t-shirt preceding Orlando Canizales out of his dressing room is his longtime trainer, Jesse Reed.
00:08:00This is one of the true veteran professional fighters in the game.
00:08:04How could a great fighter like Canizales slip through my head the way he did at the intro when I couldn't remember his name momentarily?
00:08:16He's just a terrific, terrific fighter.
00:08:19But like Junior Jones, who was beaten April 22, 1994 by John Michael Johnson, Canizales suffered a critical loss on January 7, 1995 in San Antonio
00:08:34when he was outpointed in his first appearance at this weight level by Wilfredo Vasquez.
00:08:41There's the record, 42 wins, two losses, one draw.
00:08:43He went eight years in the 118-pound division without losing a fight at 16 consecutive successful title defenses.
00:08:5231 KOs, almost all of them achieved through an accumulation of punishment.
00:08:58And a couple of more notes on Orlando Canizales.
00:09:01He mentioned the record 16 straight successful bantamweight title defenses.
00:09:05You may remember his brother, Gabby Canizales, who was also a bantamweight world champion.
00:09:10And now let's go up to ring announcer Michael Bopper for the official introduction.
00:09:17Ladies and gentlemen, good evening and welcome to the Paramount here in New York's legendary mecca of boxing,
00:09:23Madison Square Garden, where tonight, main events, Cedric Kushner promotions, Peltz boxing promotions,
00:09:30along with your undisputed, undefeated king of beers, Budweiser.
00:09:35This Bud's for you.
00:09:37Present world championship boxing.
00:09:39All the bouts are sanctioned by the New York State Athletic Commission chairman,
00:09:43former Olympic gold medalist and two-time heavyweight champion of the world, Floyd Patterson.
00:09:49Commissioners, Rose Trentman and Mel Southerd.
00:09:52Executive director, Jimmy Pulsinello.
00:09:55Your three physicians at ringside.
00:09:57Chief physician, Dr. William Latham.
00:10:00Attending physicians, Dr. Stephen Gelfman and Dr. Rufus Sadler.
00:10:04The timekeeper is Jim Borzell.
00:10:06Counting for the knockdown seconds is Arthur Mercanti.
00:10:09This belt is also sanctioned by the International Boxing Council.
00:10:13IBC president in attendance at ringside, Joseph Plackey-Gennaro.
00:10:17IBC supervisor at ringside, Debbie Jones.
00:10:20The three judges scoring the belt on a ten-point must system will be Jim Figley, Larry Hazard, Jr., and Ronnie Ralston.
00:10:30And when the bell rings, the man in charge of the action, championship veteran referee, Ron Lipton.
00:10:38And now, ladies and gentlemen, 12 rounds of boxing for the IBC Super Phantomweight Championship of the World.
00:10:46Introducing first, fighting out of the red corner, wearing the white, trimmed with red, and weighing in at 122 pounds.
00:10:57From Brooklyn, New York, he brings an excellent record of 39 victories, 25 by KO, with only two defeats from his career.
00:11:06Ladies and gentlemen, he is the former bantamweight champion of the world, the challenger, Poison, Jr. Joe!
00:11:18Ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, presenting a two-time world champion.
00:11:48The champion in reigning IBC Super Phantomweight Champion of the World, Orlando Canizale!
00:12:06The Chief Seconds, the Chief Seconds, gentlemen, you've been given the rules in the dressing room.
00:12:12No matter what happens out here, obey my commands, respect each other, and let's keep it strictly professional.
00:12:18Good luck to you both.
00:12:20Jim, the difference in the Barrera-McKinney fight was that McKinney was 30 years old, even though he gave a heroic performance.
00:12:29Does Canizales, at 30, have that in him?
00:12:33A little extra help in Poison, Jr. Jones' corner tonight.
00:12:38Lou Duva, a great veteran trainer, serving as second assistant.
00:12:44Jesse Reed is a very smart trainer.
00:12:47He sent Canizales out with the only chance he had, which is to pressure Juniors.
00:12:51Oh, Canizales has come out firing.
00:12:53And has landed two left hooks in the early going to get Jones' attention.
00:12:59Now, Jr. starts to pop and work the jab.
00:13:01Canizales will try to come right past him.
00:13:03Canizales using the quick attack to get inside Junior Jones' longer jab.
00:13:31And now Jones starts to pump the jab, and Canizales from that range won't be as effective.
00:13:39No, he will not.
00:13:40That's why he came out on fire, because he knows he has to get in close to Junior in order to have a chance.
00:13:47First 30 seconds belong to Canizales.
00:13:50Canizales still chasing Jones around the ring, but Junior has begun to pump the jab with accuracy,
00:13:55and that could control the fight for him.
00:13:58Canizales steps inside with a right hand.
00:14:00I was just about to say that Junior was also waiting to see can he find a great chance to turn that right hand loose.
00:14:11And he did land the right hand from short range.
00:14:13And now a winging right over the top and a solid left hook inside by Junior Jones.
00:14:20And Jones is finding opportunities as Canizales wades in.
00:14:24Yes, but this is not the fight that Junior wants.
00:14:27He didn't want to have to go at this pace, I don't think.
00:14:30Oh, great punch.
00:14:31He hurt Canizales with that punch, that right hand, but Canizales is in good condition, comes right back.
00:14:38Very fast-paced first two minutes of the fight.
00:14:41This is faster than Barrera McKinney started out.
00:14:44I'm already upgrading my hopes to a three-run triple from a two-run double.
00:14:48It'll have to last a while, Larry, for it to earn that particular distinction.
00:14:54Junior Jones is popping Canizales' head back now with the jab.
00:14:58Yeah, and that is his best weapon in this fight.
00:15:04Canizales cannot sit out there, though.
00:15:06He has to stay on the attack.
00:15:08That's his only chance.
00:15:09Canizales sneaked a right cross across the top of Junior's left hand as Junior dropped it to his waist.
00:15:14He sometimes does that.
00:15:19I don't think Junior Jones really intends to keep up this type of a pace the whole night.
00:15:25He's getting some of those right hands off in this last minute of the first round.
00:15:30A fast-paced, tough round by both fighters.
00:15:34Another left hook close to the bell by Orlando Canizales.
00:15:38Terrific round.
00:15:39Real good.
00:15:44He's got a jab.
00:15:45Keep your right hand more in the pocket so you're blocking that jab with your hands instead of keeping it so low.
00:15:50He's touching you with a jab, and he's keeping you off balance a little bit.
00:15:53Try to move a little more to the right, all right?
00:15:56Moving to the right.
00:15:58Don't forget to touch him with that right hand of the body.
00:16:00Get him conscious of those body attacks, and then come over the top.
00:16:03He's looking for you to throw the right hand over the jab, all right?
00:16:06Just like we worked on in the gym, all right?
00:16:09Okay?
00:16:09Got you, baby.
00:16:12Pull my nose.
00:16:14All right.
00:16:15It's not up.
00:16:16Okay.
00:16:17Okay.
00:16:19Watch that stiff jab from Jones, who was built through the shoulders almost like a welterweight,
00:16:27wears a 41-inch jacket and a 28-inch pants.
00:16:31Yeah, and we said, must be tough to buy a suit.
00:16:34He said, no, not so bad.
00:16:35I just shift the trousers around.
00:16:37Yeah.
00:16:38He's kind of a pocket-sized version of Hearn's in the look he gives you.
00:16:45Conditioning may be a key factor in this fight.
00:16:48Well, as we spoke earlier, Roy, at 30, can Canizales keep this up, keep his pace in 12 rounds?
00:16:56Well, he trained at altitude at a place that Roy Jones knows rather well.
00:16:59And if he trained there the way he's supposed to, then he is in good enough shape to go however many rounds necessary.
00:17:05Where's the place we're talking about, Roy, and how do you know about it?
00:17:08Fort Huachuca, Arizona.
00:17:09And this is where our 1988 Olympic team prepared to go to Seoul.
00:17:15Running at 5,000 feet.
00:17:17Canizales believing that at this stage of his career, he needed something special to get in shape for this fight.
00:17:22And he went to Fort Huachuca and fought against Army amateurs in sparring.
00:17:27With this opponent, he needed something special in his career.
00:17:30Because Junior Jones is no slasher.
00:17:33Junior Jones is one of the best punchers that has ever passed through this division.
00:17:37But the two times Jones has been put in trouble by punchers, Roy, he has folded.
00:17:53Hard right hand by Junior Jones.
00:17:55Breaks him with another winging right.
00:18:04Canizales is doing some damage inside, but he's paying a heavy price for the chance to do it.
00:18:09Yes, he is. He's getting caught with almost every jab.
00:18:13And another straight right hand lands on the button for Junior Jones.
00:18:17Take the way out.
00:18:19Take the way out.
00:18:21Stop punching. Step back here.
00:18:24Full step back.
00:18:24Canizales in the past has shown a strong kin and excellent stamina.
00:18:29You never know when a fighter goes past 30 when those attributes might disappear.
00:18:34One thing that is going to be a factor is that he is landing a body shot here and there.
00:18:39So if this fight does proceed into the later rounds, Junior will feel some wear from those body shots.
00:18:44They stand apart in the middle of the ring.
00:19:03Junior Jones beats Canizales to the punch with the jab and landed another solid right cross across the top.
00:19:09Junior Jones beats Canizales trying to come back in kind, but Junior Jones' confidence seems to be growing here in round two.
00:19:16Junior is fighting a beautiful fight for a long outside fighter.
00:19:20Stop punching.
00:19:21Step back here.
00:19:22I don't think I've ever seen Jones fight better against a quality opponent for two rounds at least.
00:19:28If he can just hold his pace up, he'll be fine.
00:19:34But we will find out because I don't think Canizales is going down no time soon.
00:19:42I'm beginning to like this division more and more.
00:19:45Look, this is a piece of cake if you're boxed, champ.
00:19:47Like I've been telling you all along.
00:19:49Get something done, baby.
00:19:49Okay, that's all you got to do.
00:19:52Plug the water.
00:19:55Hold your head up.
00:19:57Listen, this is a piece of cake if you boxed.
00:20:00You don't need to get in no fire fight, baby.
00:20:03All right.
00:20:04Okay.
00:20:04Let me get some grease.
00:20:09Inside, you can dig him in the body.
00:20:11He's trying to hold you from the outside.
00:20:12Just start dropping him into that body when you bend.
00:20:14Okay?
00:20:16Now, looping right hands will work better than the straight right hand.
00:20:18He's going under it.
00:20:20So loop it down and come back with a left uppercut.
00:20:22All right?
00:20:25Roy and Jim, I believe that one of the reasons that Canizales may have come out firing like this
00:20:32is that they think that Jones is a shot fighter.
00:20:36And they wanted to find out how much he's got left.
00:20:40Well, I don't think they thought for sure that he's a shot fighter.
00:20:43I think that they just realized this is the only way to beat a fighter like Junior Jones.
00:20:46He's so tall and so rangy that if you stay outside and let him pick his fight, he's going to kill you.
00:20:53Just like that.
00:20:56Junior Jones doing increasing damage with the right cross.
00:21:00And he lands a left hook as well.
00:21:02Canizales having trouble keeping up the pace.
00:21:05Canizales trying to pressure Jones to break up his rhythm.
00:21:13But Junior Jones increasingly has it his way.
00:21:17Enormous pace so far.
00:21:18Roy Jones.
00:21:19Junior threw 73 jabs in the first round.
00:21:2392 total punches in round two.
00:21:25That's an enormous punch out play.
00:21:27Very enormous and that's why I said that conditioning will be a key factor in this fight.
00:21:32If Junior is ready, then he'll be able to hold up for 12 rounds.
00:21:36But he's going to have to be ready because Canizales is going to keep coming at him.
00:21:42And that's what he's supposed to do.
00:21:44That's when you can tell that a guy has a terrific trainer.
00:21:47Good lead left hook there by Orlando Canizales.
00:22:02Some of Junior's punches are starting to slow down a little now.
00:22:08But Canizales needs to cut the ring off.
00:22:10He doesn't need to follow Junior's zone.
00:22:12Stop punching.
00:22:13On the belt line here on the letters is OK.
00:22:15OK?
00:22:16Boss.
00:22:17Referee Ron Lipton.
00:22:21Canizales getting inside with a body shot.
00:22:23Now there's blood on the nose of Junior Jones.
00:22:26He also got in with a right hand uppercut to the jaw.
00:22:31Landed flush on Jones.
00:22:32Canizales turning the momentum of the bout around with body punches.
00:22:36And that right hand that Larry talked about.
00:22:39And now Jones is backing up and Canizales is cutting off the ring.
00:22:43I told you that this would be a fight where condition would be the key.
00:22:46Look at that.
00:22:47Junior Jones is trying to tell him to box Canizales.
00:22:50But Canizales isn't allowing this to happen.
00:22:53I got it.
00:22:53Box.
00:22:54Oh, excellent body shot by Canizales.
00:23:00Canizales investing in the body punches now hoping that Jones will slow down later
00:23:07Jones going to the counter punch now
00:23:10Got that left hand in canizales continues to come straight forward
00:23:16This fight is starting to turn slightly in canizales's favor because junior is showing fatigue
00:23:22There was a shot that hurt june
00:23:24You're right right if you remember when junior lost his first fight to boom boom johnson
00:23:30He had it his way for a few rounds and then started to wind down like I said that's what you can tell
00:23:35that jesse news is a great trainer he's sitting right across at the end of the round by junior jones
00:23:43Incidentally that was bam bam johnson coming up in the air i said boom boom yeah boom boom johnson is
00:23:49Tom in the lower weight class featherweight champion featherweight champ
00:23:53All right
00:23:59Walk to him with some head motion get that head on both sides don't walk straight in
00:24:03If you don't box you're making a hard fight listen hey listen up listen up
00:24:09Box this guy straight one two is basic basic basic junior okay
00:24:18All right here you see jones being forced
00:24:20Into a fast-paced fight by the veteran canizales
00:24:27Seconds there was that uppercut that seemed to hurt jones and took something out of his legs
00:24:34Both fighters threw 78 punches in round three
00:24:37But canizales that time landed at the higher rate landing 54 percent
00:24:44Of his attempted punches if you look at fight history these are the type of fights like uh
00:24:49Barkley and timing hands walk you could beat timing hurts because he knows
00:24:53To go out and put pressure on timing right away in order to make the fight even
00:24:59Until june got tired this fight was not an even fight
00:25:07Loading up combinations again
00:25:09Jones landed two hard stiff rights and canizales
00:25:16Waited right through
00:25:19There's a hard left hand by jones
00:25:21Canizales continues to four straight forward
00:25:29Junior is doing his best to box canizales which is the thing to do
00:25:33He's not able to get off with the jab anymore and he's backing up all the time now roy
00:25:38Because canizales is keeping the pressure applied which is what he is supposed to do to a taller fighter
00:25:46If he can take away jones's jab through sheer pressure
00:25:50He'll achieve a tactical advantage there
00:25:53And this is what he has already achieved
00:25:54One thing about this boxing after dark series it gives these guys an opportunity
00:26:11To do something that they wish they could do which is fight on hbo to showcase their themselves
00:26:16When they get this opportunity they seem to really be taking advantage of it
00:26:20I'm great that we have this program going
00:26:22Yep, we've already made one star in marco antonio borrero
00:26:25Or at least we gave him a chance to show his star quality to the public and
00:26:29One of these guys might get the chance to fight that great young mexican fighter
00:26:34Boy that canizales can take some kind of shot you don't win 16 title defenses
00:26:43Unless you can and he's really showing us something here. Yes
00:26:46He is because he's walking right down the pipe and junior starts to really connect
00:26:49Jones connected with another hard right cross you can see canizales's head shake with the impact
00:26:55And again, orlando stepped straight forward. Yes, orlando does walk through everything junior throws
00:27:02And jones is starting to look a little bit uneasy on his feet just as he did in the middle rounds
00:27:09Against john michael johnson that fateful night in vegas april 22 of 94 and blood is coming from his nose
00:27:15And canizales with two consecutive right hands
00:27:19Well, you can believe that jesse reed has studied and he knows what it takes to beat you
00:27:23Junior is tired now
00:27:24And it won't be long before his legs start to give out what could he do to reestablish the jab roy
00:27:29Nothing because canizales is all over him. He'd have to be out in front of kenizales, but kenizales is all over him now
00:27:49And he's ducking under it and come with a left hook to the body you'll drill him with it
00:27:52And i mean dig that body with both hands. He's ready to go keep the pressure on
00:28:03Stay off the ropes. Yeah, okay
00:28:05And the center of the rings
00:28:07Oh, that's got to try to pass out here
00:28:09Here you go. He's got to try to pass out to one side, man. Okay
00:28:13Harold letterman. How do you have the fight scored through four rounds?
00:28:16Larry 39 to 37 three rounds to one junior jones
00:28:21I don't know if anything can stop this little dynamo in a blue trunk
00:28:25He just keeps coming, but he's walking into good solid shots
00:28:29Junior jones does something in most fight people call dropping the right hand
00:28:32He just drops that right hand down on kenizales's jaw and those are the scoring shots
00:28:373-1 junior jones
00:28:39Yeah, it's it's an oddity here that I have the score the same
00:28:43And yet the feeling is somehow that canizales
00:28:47Has the advantage did you also give jones the fourth round larry? Yes, I did
00:28:53Land five or six or seven big right hands in a round. It's awfully hard to lose it
00:29:00But canizales was tactically in control and if there's one thing he's proven
00:29:04It is that so far he can take jones's big shots
00:29:08And if jones would have hidden his uh punched canizales to the body some early
00:29:13Maybe his shots would start to have an effect on orlando now
00:29:20You heard how persuasive canizales's trainer jesse reed is very direct with his fighter
00:29:25Insisting that jones is quote ready to go
00:29:29One thing orlando is doing wrong is that he is following junior jones you should never follow a guy
00:29:34Explain what you mean by that right? Well, he's walking right behind him instead of cutting the ring off
00:29:42He should cut the ring off if he cuts the ring off then it won't be so hard to catch up with june
00:29:46One more time all right
00:29:49Now lipton gives junior jones a break okay from a low blow
00:29:57All right ready okay time it let's go about 20 seconds no more
00:30:04There is what i'm talking about right there larry
00:30:28Orlando needs to trap junior in the corners to be able to throw the combinations
00:30:32But he's following him and june is able to speak right out of the corner every time
00:30:38And now slowly junior begins to reestablish the jab
00:30:42Canizales hasn't been able to dig that left hook to the body in this round the way jesse reed wanted him to
00:30:50Both fighters have taken a little bit of a blow after that blistering pace through the first four rounds
00:30:55And for jones, it may be especially auspicious
00:30:58They trade left hands in close range
00:31:13Shaking his head as canizales continues to attack there's a hard left
00:31:18Orlando canizales oh, he was hurt by a right hand himself
00:31:21Now junior motions him in
00:31:26And canizales clocks him with the right
00:31:28Junior was hurt by a left hook mcconnors dallas was also hurt by a right hand
00:31:32Yeah, but i don't think junior knew that canizales was hurt
00:31:35This fight is every bit as good as mckinney and barrera it rivals him that's for sure
00:31:55Junior you got the box baby i am baby you got the box come on when you box this is a piece of cake junior
00:32:03Okay, check this out when you're working on the inside right here. You got to let them hands go
00:32:10And we drink this when you step to the guy drink it drink step in sets not just one two anymore, okay?
00:32:16He's getting hip to that
00:32:18You follow what i'm saying? He's getting hip to the straight one two going to one two three now
00:32:22Oh, check this out when you throw that right here digging with your body shot, okay?
00:32:26Start hitting with some body shots now, okay?
00:32:28Holden when he starts holding you raise your arm up and lift his arms up
00:32:30On the on the on the on the all right lift his arms off you by lifting your arm up put some
00:32:36Here i already did give me the mouthpiece
00:32:41Pull your hand up and dig that left hook to the bottom
00:32:45The first thing that goes in a veteran fighter isn't his eyes or his reflexes or his speed it's his zeal to train
00:32:54It's his zeal to get down and dirty and really pay a price
00:32:59And we have seen recently how some veteran fighters like mckinney and witherspoon and now canazales
00:33:05Have gone back to that kind of training
00:33:09For a last hurrah or two
00:33:12Julian jones's corner did tell him when he came back to the corner to start to hit the body after the right hand
00:33:18Something that he should have started early in this fight
00:33:23Canazales over the top with the right as jones again drops the left hand jr jones as roy points out
00:33:30Not many body punches in the early going
00:33:33Canazales on the other hand has been working that frail jones ribcage
00:33:42Blood again trickling from the right nostril of jr jones
00:33:45Canazales just looks like he could go all night
00:33:54To you did try to hit the body there which was a good
00:34:06Left hand landed flush right hand was a little short
00:34:16Jones coming alive with the counter punches
00:34:22Listening to tommy brooks and firing the left hook with great effect
00:34:26It takes some kind of fighter to keep walking through this fire
00:34:30One reason jr jones is able to get himself back into this fight is because canazales will not cut off the ring
00:34:39This gives you a chance to rest it lets him get out of all of the tough situations that he doesn't want to be in
00:34:44And canazales walks right into his biggest shots and after a dozen years in the games canazales of all fighters
00:34:51Ought to know how to cut off the ring, but sometimes it's not easy to do what you think you want to do
00:34:57And i don't think he's fought many fights quite like this where he wanted to be this aggressive
00:35:03He's usually been able to get by on his terrific boxing skills
00:35:08Which is why jesse reed should tell him that he needs to start
00:35:16Cutting the ring off instead of following jr jones and canazales going back to the body and jr jones lands another right hand
00:35:31If junior can keep him following keep canazales following him like this he can win this fight
00:35:38All right
00:36:04Real nice round you're getting your second wind in there start digging that body like that
00:36:08Lean in with them left hooks turn your shoulders and drive it to the body all right
00:36:18Now you're walking to him when he grabs you start walking backwards and punching hard to the body
00:36:24You can't stand there now okay drink this
00:36:27What's the rounds up to everything this is seven rounds coming up who winning huh you you winning this thing right now
00:36:33But you got to keep boxing though okay show this guy what kind of a boxer you are out there you hear
00:36:38Come on you got five rounds to go baby and you're champion of the world
00:36:40Okay, this is your night now come on now do it now come on
00:36:46When a fighter asks for the round it suggests
00:36:51A certain amount of fatigue hoping that the fight is further along than it is
00:36:56You agree roy yeah, and sometimes you just want to know exactly where you are
00:37:01So you can know how much you need to hold and how much you need to put out
00:37:06Duva inadvertently gave him the wrong information. He's got six rounds to go not five
00:37:11This is round seven of a scheduled 12
00:37:14Do the starting to speak up over there in the corner the jf patch on junior jones's white trunks is in honor of his
00:37:22Deceased former trainer joey barriello
00:37:29One thing that junior did ask which was a very exciting question was who's winning the fight
00:37:35His corner responded by saying you are so that's very confidential
00:37:39Well, so far
00:37:44Over here in the story side of the table we agree
00:37:48Even though he's having a hard time
00:37:51What would you want to hear roy if you're in a fight that
00:37:54Seems to the observers to be dead even do you want your corner to tell you you're winning or losing tell me i'm behind
00:38:00So I can come off and pick it up some more
00:38:08Everybody's mind is not as strong as mine some people that may make them give in because they feel like they're behind
00:38:14Come on here
00:38:28Canizales still chasing junior jones?
00:38:30Yes, he's still chasing it and this is why junior jones is here handling this fight like he wants to because canizales is following him
00:38:37Jones beginning to swing a little bit wider
00:38:46It appears now that canizales is beginning to slow down a bit roy yeah, he is
00:38:51But the thing is is instead of just turning and going straight down the ropes
00:38:56He should go to the right or to the left and cut the ring
00:39:00Like right there. See step to the right
00:39:02He's letting junior out of the corner by stepping to the right
00:39:05When junior is moving to the left, he needs to step over to the left
00:39:10Jones a moment ago put his glove up to his right eyes though. He thought he had been thumped
00:39:34And as alice is playing the role of barrera jones is playing the role of mckinney in another bristling junior
00:39:49Coming alive again as round seven comes forward to close panizales comes alive with it
00:39:54He's getting hip to that one two bruh
00:40:04Look
00:40:11You guys beautiful that round junior, but I need you to go three and four punches now. He's getting hip to that one two bruh
00:40:17Huh? Did I tell you that's the last round?
00:40:19Relax
00:40:21Junior you're getting hip to that one two, hey
00:40:25Okay, you have to step up bust his ass now home
00:40:29Okay, baby
00:40:33Walk with authority and take it out of this guy
00:40:35You're the boss
00:40:37I want all the rest of these rounds and I want a big you hear me no more fooling
00:40:41You're a proud champion
00:40:47Be a proud person out there take over right now take over right now
00:40:53Jesse reed may be sensing
00:40:56That canizales was slowing down and is trying to get him going again. Well, he was slowing down his punch out
00:41:03But in round seven dip the 48 punches this after in round six he had landed 26 out of 36 power shots
00:41:09so
00:41:10Canizales all but took the round off in seven compared to his previous pace and here comes junior jones again
00:41:16Stop punching step back here. I said stop punching stop punching
00:41:25Okay box
00:41:29This is the best time for a fighter like conizales to try to counter because june just put out a big barrage of punches which takes a lot of effort
00:41:37Oh
00:41:47Junior jones showing the kind of guts and resilience so far here tonight
00:41:52That we're missing when he lost his title to john michael bam bam johnson in vegas in april of 94
00:41:59Canizales trying to pressure him as johnson did in that fight
00:42:07Oh excellent body shot by orlando conizales those are the type of body shots that really have an effect on you late in a fight
00:42:18Canizales after the little pick-me-up lecture from reed has tried hard to pressure junior in this round
00:42:24But jones continues to land at a very high rate of accuracy
00:42:38Hard left hook by canizales another one to the body jones comes out firing and backs away
00:42:49I doubt that canizales has ever taken as many clean hard punches as he has in this fight
00:42:57He really seems to be getting hit entirely too much
00:43:00And jones is getting the room through much of this round to pump the jab and that's setting up more right hands
00:43:11He stuns canizales with a right and tries to come with more
00:43:17There again these type of punches take a lot of energy to uh deliver
00:43:23These are power shots and it's a lot more
00:43:26Stressing on the body to deliver those type of punches
00:43:30But roy it takes a lot of energy to absorb those blows too
00:43:38Stop punching stop
00:43:41So far this has been jones biggest round i believe i think so too
00:43:52And the brooklyn fighter finishes with a flourish in round eight
00:43:58I like that another round like that
00:44:00Orlando he's going underneath the hook drop it to the body all right start doubling up your left hooks and drop them to the body when he bends under
00:44:07Don't waste so many shots over the top you got to start putting those punches together but landing them
00:44:14How do you feel all right
00:44:16All right
00:44:17This is where we reach down and we take it out of this guy you be the boss right now
00:44:26Harold letterman eight rounds how do you have it larry 78 74 six rounds to two junior jones
00:44:34I think this guy just doesn't run out of energy
00:44:36I mean, orlando canizales keeps coming and junior jones keeps nailing them with solid right hands
00:44:40He still continues to drop that solid right hand right on olander's jaw junior jones winning the fight by five four rounds
00:44:48You and i agree for a change
00:44:51Lovely round punch stat numbers for jones in round eight he threw a hundred punches and landed 50 of them
00:44:59Tommy brooks has done an excellent condition with juniors conditioning
00:45:03Yeah, he seems to have brought the fighter to a new level of conditioning roy yeah, I don't think i've ever seen junior in this type of condition
00:45:18If it continues this way, I think we just have to say that age was the difference again
00:45:25No, I cannot say that because kind of that was was strong
00:45:28I think junior is just fighting a superb fight conizales just needs to cut the ring off
00:45:34Until he starts to cut the ring off he's gonna be fighting a bad fight
00:45:40You're showing the will to keep doing what he has to do
00:45:45He's just as tired as conizales that's why I think the age is not the problem
00:45:49That's where the problem is he's standing out and letting jr. Do just what jr. Needs to do to win this fight
00:46:03Take over the period of eight and a half rounds conizales has just eaten too much leather to keep punishing jr. The right and pressuring jr. The way
00:46:10He wanted to ruin well the following is what's taking it out of him it burn
00:46:14He's burning all that energy trying to catch jr. And then he's letting him out
00:46:18And now he's burned so much energy until he's almost as tired as jr. So you think jr. Is winning the fight with his feet
00:46:24I think jr. Is winning the fight with his feet
00:46:28I think his hands probably have something to do with it
00:46:31Well, your hands are how you score
00:46:33No, but but I I I hear what you're saying and to explain what you're saying
00:46:40What he means is that conizales is going directly after jones and when jones moves instead of sliding sideways and cutting him off
00:46:48He's trailing him and giving him time to gather his forces
00:46:58Very well said there and another big round for junior jones guys
00:47:03Who is gradually sapping canizales of his confidence and his commitment
00:47:14stop punch
00:47:33I can't say that orlando conizales has blocked a single right hand tonight
00:47:49I told you about seven or six round you've got to go with the hook to the body
00:48:04Don't wait till he grabs your left. It's a mental thing with you waiting till he grabs you
00:48:09Throw that left hook to the body off your right hand and double up with it
00:48:13Okay, all right when you miss with the right hand drive the left hook to the body
00:48:16Then come back over to the head. Okay, now you got to do it now. Okay
00:48:22I'm just saying now that you have to do it
00:48:24Okay, you can't throw no fucking one it's one three shots. It got to be three four five shots now
00:48:30Okay, and back this guy up. Okay, you could do that from long range
00:48:35Okay, you can hit this guy with left hooks all day long, right? He's a left hook all day long
00:48:40Double header on boxing after dark still to come the brilliant young arturo gotti 130 pound champion with dynamite in the left hand
00:48:49Against wilson rodriguez born in the dominican republic fighting out of spain rodriguez has had 50 fights
00:48:55And this will be his first appearance in the united states
00:48:57I
00:49:08Junior has a cut over the right over the left eye that may get to be a problem if he's not careful
00:49:13I
00:49:33Shamed you fight like this stopped on a cut at a time when junior is producing a brilliant performance
00:49:37A brilliant performance and a moment in his career when he badly needed one
00:49:42Can you tell roy whether the blood is coming into his eye or along the side of his eye right now?
00:49:48It seems to be going along the side of his eye
00:49:55Canizales targeting the cut with the right hand and sneaking one in there
00:50:00Jones starting to back up and also pawing at the blood with his right hand and
00:50:05That might seem to indicate that it is bothering his vision a little bit now jones comes back with a combination
00:50:12Finishing with a right hand flush and he hit conizales with a beautiful body shot then that opened the right hand up for him
00:50:18That particular move that conizales is making he's pivoting around to his right and trying to hit junior with the right with the left hook
00:50:24It will not work because junior has too much range
00:50:43Stop punching step back please
00:51:02Jones angry because he feels kind of Zalas has been fouling him purposely drives the smaller man back against the ring post
00:51:09That's called doing whatever you have to do to win the fight
00:51:17Hard left hook by canizales wobbled jones momentarily
00:51:23That hook was set up by body shots
00:51:26Canizales trying to go back to the body and junior responds in kind
00:51:30A couple of vicious body shots by junior jones there
00:51:44As they finished the ring or the round against the ropes much better get in there
00:52:02Don't let this guy hold you don't let this referee do this to you. You'll be the boss
00:52:06You hear me look me in the eyes this referee is doing a bunch of bullshit
00:52:11You're letting him get away with it. You start roughing this guy up and start banging him
00:52:15I knew when you're walking back you'll be ready to punch you hear me. Yes. All right. Yeah, don't allow listen
00:52:21Listen to me
00:52:23Get that jab going you got a punch in bunches now champ, okay?
00:52:26I know you're tired suck it up man. I got you baby, huh?
00:52:35More tired than you are out there, baby. You're a better fighter out there get out there and show you got two rounds ago
00:52:39Come on you win this title
00:52:54What's jesse reed trying to get out of his fighter roy?
00:52:56Well, I think he wants his fighter to push the issue because he knows that junior jones is tired
00:53:02And he thinks that conizales has the more bottom
00:53:06When I say bottom, I mean he thinks that conizales is the better fighter when it comes to digging in the trenches that his commitment goes deeper, right?
00:53:16What they call a great written bottle
00:53:19Or bottom as you called it
00:53:24The deep deep reservoir of will
00:53:27Now jones begins complaining to the referee again
00:53:37Keep them up keep them up respect each other keep it professional. I'm gonna take a point away
00:53:42You understand from who?
00:53:44From both of them
00:53:46Oh
00:54:02oh
00:54:06Joneses punch out quick cropping he looks just a little uncertain on his feet canis Allah still trying to apply pressure
00:54:12Just a minute ago,
00:54:17Conadela followed Junior again
00:54:19and let Junior out of another corner,
00:54:20which is where he should want Junior at.
00:54:24Jones with another
00:54:25fusillade of punches.
00:54:37Stop him.
00:54:38Step back.
00:54:42We should give credit to
00:55:02Jones' corner for closing that cut.
00:55:04It's not bleeding again.
00:55:06A round ago, it looked like it
00:55:08could be dangerous.
00:55:09And they are staying very calm
00:55:11in Junior's corner.
00:55:12Nobody's getting panicky
00:55:13because he's doing an excellent job
00:55:16of boxing.
00:55:19They're fighting for a title
00:55:21held by Orlando Canasalas.
00:55:23And for the moment,
00:55:24it looks as though Junior Jones
00:55:25could be three and a half minutes
00:55:27away from seizing that title.
00:55:29No big opportunities here for Canasalas
00:55:55as round 11 comes to a close.
00:55:57Both of these fighters are in superb condition.
00:56:03You'll drill it with him, all right?
00:56:04Get him with that left hook.
00:56:05Step into the right side.
00:56:06Throw the right hand.
00:56:07Step to the right.
00:56:08Bring your left hook from your hip.
00:56:10And you're going to let him do it.
00:56:11Listen to me.
00:56:12You want to be champ, baby?
00:56:13Yeah, take this round.
00:56:14You know how hard we work for this shit.
00:56:16Come on now.
00:56:16Junior.
00:56:17I'm listening to Coach.
00:56:18All right, baby.
00:56:19I need both hands going.
00:56:21Okay.
00:56:21Good pressure.
00:56:25Good pressure.
00:56:26Be constantly punching.
00:56:28Don't let the referee...
00:56:29Hey, where are you talking?
00:56:31This is for you.
00:56:32Even more so important,
00:56:33you wanted it.
00:56:34You go get this.
00:56:35All right.
00:56:36All right.
00:56:36You go get this.
00:56:37Hey, don't be crying out here.
00:56:39Just jump in this shit.
00:56:40We need this son of a bitch here.
00:56:42Bring it from here.
00:56:44Let's go.
00:56:44Let's go.
00:56:45Let's go.
00:56:45Come on, Junior.
00:56:48In Junior Jones' corner,
00:56:50a beautiful job of treating the cut
00:56:53by veteran cut man Al Gavin.
00:56:55Harold, does Canizales need a knockout
00:56:58to win this fight?
00:56:58Larry, as I see it, absolutely.
00:57:00Eight rounds to three.
00:57:02107, 102.
00:57:03Poison Junior Jones.
00:57:05I think at crunch time,
00:57:06every time Canizales gets in close,
00:57:08Junior Jones just outbelts him.
00:57:09He outpunches him.
00:57:11He ties him off.
00:57:18Stop punching.
00:57:20Get off the back of the table.
00:57:21Stop punching.
00:57:22Let's go.
00:57:28Come on.
00:57:29Come on.

00:57:42Come on.
00:57:43Come on.
00:57:43Come on.
00:57:43Jones has found the second and third win
00:57:46in this fight.
00:57:47Stop punching.
00:57:47He is really fighting the fight of his life.
00:57:50He is producing a championship caliber effort.
00:57:53And now I think he is proving himself to be one of the greater Bantamweights or Junior Featherweights
00:57:59to ever live.
00:58:01Really?
00:58:02He has a very, very remarkable opponent in front of him.
00:58:06A guy who, like I said, in my mind, was one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the
00:58:11division.
00:58:11And now Junior has taken him and strictly out-boxed him.
00:58:15Three years ago, Canizales was on a lot of people's best pound-for-pound lists up in
00:58:20the top five.
00:58:23That was before the loss at 122 pounds to Alfredo Vasquez.
00:58:27After this, Canizales might consider bringing it in to his long and legendary boxing career.
00:58:34There's still a minute, 10 seconds left.
00:58:42Junior Jones still cannot get careless.
00:58:45Get off the back of his head, Junior.
00:58:48The momentum has been all Jones in the past few rounds, despite the cut above the left eye.
00:58:54Watch your heads.
00:58:56Stop punching.
00:58:57Step up.
00:58:59Box.
00:58:59Jones still with enough energy to beat Canizales to the punch here in the last minute of the
00:59:08fight.
00:59:11Stop punching.
00:59:12Step back.
00:59:14Box.
00:59:15I think it's fair to say, guys, that this is one occasion where the hometown has helped
00:59:21Junior Jones.
00:59:25Just as it is at this moment.
00:59:27Nothing so true.
00:59:28Crowd on its feet in the theater at Madison Square Garden.
00:59:34Junior Jones, possibly 20 seconds away from the biggest victory of his career.
00:59:46The revivals are doing hot business on Broadway a few blocks away, and Jones is reviving himself
00:59:53here.
00:59:54Coming back to the top of the heap.
00:59:56I hear myself thinking and now saying, once again, what a fight.
01:00:03What a fight.
01:00:05What a fight.
01:00:05It appears that Junior Jones crossed the finish line and collapsed.
01:00:23He left nothing outside of this ring.
01:00:25And that's exactly what you're supposed to do.
01:00:29If you're going to go in there, go in there and make the best of it.
01:00:36Somewhere, Joey Fariello is smiling on his fighter.
01:00:43Let's get that other glove off
01:00:50Well, Roy, any way this decision could go against Jones?
01:01:00I don't think so. I think Junior Jones just outboxed Orlando Gonzalez tonight.
01:01:05I told you that the range would work in his favor.
01:01:08The only question was whether he was going to be in condition for this or not.
01:01:13He was in great condition for this type of a fight.
01:01:17He and his trainer also did their homework.
01:01:19They knew what to look for in Orlando Gonzalez.
01:01:21They did a great job. I think they deserved the victory.
01:01:24He was in great condition both physically and spiritually.
01:01:28Harold, what was your final number?
01:01:30Jim, nine rounds to three, 117, 111, poisoned Junior Jones.
01:01:35I thought when Orlando Gonzalez got inside, Junior Jones would just outbang him.
01:01:39And that was the story.
01:01:41He not only outboxed him, he outpunched him.
01:01:43And let's go to Michael Buffer to hear how the three judges saw it.
01:01:46Well, I'm told they're still tallying the scorecards, and that's a little bit surprising.
01:02:03And that doesn't sound too good.
01:02:05Michael Buffer, who works for the Recreation Department in Laredo, Texas, has a straight job, wife and kids, stable life.
01:02:20His desire to continue fighting comes from his self-identity as a professional fighter.
01:02:25Spirited fights.
01:02:261,714 punches thrown in the fight.
01:02:33756 of them landed.
01:02:35The two fighters combining the land at about 43.5%.
01:02:39Both fighters working with the jab, Junior Jones, controlling the fight with it through most of the first six or seven rounds.
01:02:47Then it became more of a brawl.
01:02:49Jones had to show his will, and he did.
01:02:51Now let's go up to Michael Buffer.
01:02:56Ladies and gentlemen, how about a round of applause for both fighters, Junior Jones and Orlando Canizales.
01:03:06Here at the Garden, we go to the scorecards.
01:03:10Ronnie Ralston scores the bout, 119 to 110.
01:03:14He has it for the champion, Canizales.
01:03:18Larry Hazard, Jr. scores the bout, 117 to 111 for Junior Jones.
01:03:24And Tim Figley scores the bout, 118 to 111 for the winner, who dedicates this bout to his former manager, Joey Ferriero.
01:03:35The new champion, Poison, Junior Jones!
01:03:42Oh!
01:03:52119, 110, Canizales on one of the three cards.
01:03:57What fight could that judge have been watching?
01:03:59Let's go quickly to Larry Merchant with the winner.
01:04:01All right, Junior, Orlando, thank you for a wonderful, wonderful fight.
01:04:09It turned out to be more of a war than either of you said you wanted.
01:04:14Why was that?
01:04:15Well, you know, I had to, you know, since he was, because of his height, I had to put the pressure.
01:04:22And, you know, I take more punishment than I usually take.
01:04:24But, you know, that's the style I had to do to win this fight, and I thought I came out, you know, I thought I did enough to win this fight.
01:04:31Junior, was it more action and lightning than you were looking for?
01:04:35Yeah, he was stronger than what I expected.
01:04:37I mean, for a small guy, he packed a lot of power.
01:04:39So I tried to fight him too much inside because he's very strong.
01:04:42But I tried to use my height and my reach to my advantage.
01:04:45Were you surprised how strongly he came out because he told me earlier that he had only tried to fight that type of fight once before in his life?
01:04:54No, I wasn't surprised because I knew that I had the height advance.
01:04:56I knew he had to come at me hard, which I expected.
01:04:59But he was a lot stronger than what I did anticipate.
01:05:01I mean, he's the strongest guy I've ever fought.
01:05:05Orlando, is this the end of the trail?
01:05:08No, no, no.
01:05:09You know, I thought I won this fight.
01:05:10And, you know, I'll be back.
01:05:12And hopefully, you know, I'm sure a lot of people want to see a rematch.
01:05:14And hopefully, you give me an opportunity, like, just like I gave an opportunity.
01:05:20Junior, tell me what this fight meant to you in terms of your ex-trainer, Joey Ferriello.
01:05:26First of all, I'd like to thank the Lord Jesus Christ for giving me the opportunity to get this victory.
01:05:30Tommy Brooks is stepping in.
01:05:31But this meant a lot to me dedicating this fight to Joe because this is the fight that Joe always wanted.
01:05:35Just before he passed away, he told me he wanted to fight Orlando Canizada.
01:05:38So I just want to, wherever he's at, spiritually, I want to let him be here to see the victory that has been done.
01:05:43It looked as though early in the fight you were already starting to show fatigue.
01:05:48Did you just have deep conditioning that enabled you to come back?
01:05:52Or was it the occasion?
01:05:55You explain it.
01:05:56No, and there was no deep fatigue.
01:05:57I mean, he was a pressure fighter.
01:05:58And I tried not to get into his game of fighting inside.
01:06:01So the only thing I looked to do was hold him, walk him around a little bit because I didn't want to get into his game plan of fighting inside.
01:06:06I wanted to keep the bout on outside, which I did.
01:06:09The fatigue part, there was no way.
01:06:10I mean, I went to camp for seven hard weeks to train for the later round.
01:06:13We didn't train to knock him out.
01:06:14All right.
01:06:14We understand that you've been promised a shot at Barrera.
01:06:18Do you want it?
01:06:19And when do you want it?
01:06:20I mean, yo, you're making a big deal about Barrera.
01:06:22Barrera, he's just another fighter that's out there that I have to look up to.
01:06:24I mean, there's too many junior fellows out there to worry about.
01:06:26I can't.
01:06:27Right now, if you want to put Barrera in there, I mean, Barrera, let's go.
01:06:29I mean, I like Mexican food.
01:06:30So, I mean, I don't mind fighting Barrera.
01:06:32I mean, if the opportunity is right, HBO wants to do it again, sure, let's bring Barrera on.
01:06:37Thank you both guys again for a wonderful fight.
01:06:40Jim?
01:06:41All right.
01:06:42Thank you very much, Larry.
01:06:44One all-too-familiar pattern serves as a footnote to this, incidentally.
01:06:47That one judge who scored the bout 119-110 for Orlando Canizales was from Canizales' home state of Texas.
01:06:56Who knows?
01:06:56Maybe that's the reason he saw the fight so differently than the other two judges and our own Harold Letterman.
01:07:02And you too, Roy Jones.
01:07:03I know you didn't see any 119-110 for Canizales.
01:07:07No, I didn't see this.
01:07:08Maybe this guy was in Korea when I was there in 88.
01:07:10I don't know.
01:07:11Judging that gold medal bout.
01:07:13All right, suppose Junior Jones gets that much-talked-about shot against Marco Antonio Barrera.
01:07:19What would that fight look like?
01:07:21Well, that fight should be a replica of what happened here tonight.
01:07:24Junior Jones would have to go in, fight the same type of fight that he fought here tonight against a very game-and-gutsy, courageous fighter.
01:07:32And if he can keep the smaller guy on the outside, then he'll pick him apart.
01:07:36One difference, I think maybe Barrera is a harder puncher at this stage of his career than Canizales.
01:07:40Well, I can't really say that because Canizales is really a strong puncher.
01:07:45He came out.
01:07:46He hit Junior with some great shots early.
01:07:48Barrera is a strong puncher, too.
01:07:50But Canizales has more experience than Barrera.
01:07:53Therefore, I think he could hit Junior when Barrera may not be able to catch Junior.
01:07:57All right.
01:07:57Boxing after dark stays hot.
01:07:59Than Barrera.
01:08:00Therefore, I think he could hit Junior when Barrera may not be able to catch Junior.
01:08:04All right.
01:08:04Boxing after dark stays hot.
01:08:06We score big again with another great competitive battle between Junior Jones and Orlando Canizales.
01:08:12And now we get ready for the second of our two main events on this edition of B.A.D.
01:08:18Arturo Gatti, 23 years old and a brand-new superstar in the sport, taking on Wilson Rodriguez, born in the Dominican Republic.
01:08:26He's been fighting for the past several years.
