00:00Just days before a trial was set to begin, a last-minute settlement is clinched between
00:06Boeing and Paul Neroje, who lost his entire family in the deadly 2019 crash of Ethiopian
00:12Airlines Flight 302. The Canadian national was suing the aviation giant for millions,
00:19citing the deep emotional trauma he's endured since the crash. In March of 2019, Neroje's
00:25wife, three children and mother-in-law were flying to their native Kenya when the Boeing
00:29737 MAX malfunctioned shortly after take-off. The plane plummeted to the ground, killing
00:35all 157 people on board. Neroje says he hasn't been able to return to his family home in Toronto
00:43because the memories are too painful. He's struggled to find work and has faced criticism
00:48from extended family for not travelling with his wife and children that day. While the
00:53exact terms of the settlement remain confidential, the case was expected to bring renewed scrutiny
00:59to Boeing 737 MAX, which has been plagued by safety issues. The Ethiopian crash, along with
01:06a similar tragedy in Indonesia just months earlier, claimed a total of 346 lives.
