00:09as the Indie Ibo from southeastern Nigeria celebrated the Abuja Ibo Festival 2025.
00:21People turned out in mass to join the ultimate expression of the Ibo culture in its most beautiful expression.
00:30Nigerians celebrate its unique tradition that showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Indie Ibo of Nigeria.
00:37The Ibo to say, it reminds them of their heritage as true Nigerians.
00:43You know, we always like to celebrate. We like umeme. Anywhere there is celebration, we like it. It's part of who we are.
00:50Ibo has a very beautiful culture, their tradition, their dancing, their food.
00:55When you come to food, you have a lot of food to exploit.
00:58When you come to dancing, you have a lot of dance, masquerade.
01:02So many cultures that if you really want to experience an Ibo culture, you need to be open minded
01:08because there is a lot of Ibo culture to enjoy.
01:10Festival organisers say it's an opportunity to give the Ibo living in Abuja a reminder of home and all its cultural riches.
01:25It came about because of the fact that we Ibo youths saw the fact to bring it.
01:31Because we found out that most of our brothers have not been travelling to the east.
01:34They have not been to the village for about six, seven, five years.
01:37And then we have situations where some kids cannot speak their mother tongue.
01:40And it's quite embarrassing.
01:41And you hear them bear English and Ibo names and then they can't speak their language.
01:44So we thought of what to do since there is so much to fear going down to the east.
01:48And then it was okay, let's bring these things that is in the east, these seasons of Christmas, festive period over here in Abuja.
01:54Variety is the spice of life, you know.
01:56So it's so important that within Nigeria that we're able to showcase our own different cultures as well.
02:01So that we know that we're not different, but within our cultures we're all similar.
