New Delhi: July 13, 2025, (ANI): The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has released its preliminary findings on the recent Air India plane crash, offering critical insights into the technical sequence that may have led to the accident. Commercial pilot and BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy has responded to the report, calling it an important first step in uncovering the truth about what happened in the cockpit moments before disaster struck.
00:00The aircraft ran up to a speed which is required for takeoff, which is called the rotation speed. Possibly after that, technically two, three things have happened. Automatically in an aircraft happens when there is a twin engine failure. So this, as indicated in the report, has happened and both of things, the APU has started and the initial stages of APU has started and the RAT has deployed. So it indicates the engine failure has taken place.
00:28He possibly checked with the captain that switch control, has it been put off? He said, no. That means the captain has been observing whatever is happening in that 30 seconds. He has done this. He has looked at the aircraft because after the crash, both the switches were found in on position.
00:44The final report, it is not the final report, it is the preliminary report. The first stage report, thanks to the government, coming out with the facts of what happened inside the aircraft, how the aircraft…
00:56So basically the facts are there, that the aircraft ran up to a speed which is required for takeoff, which is called the rotation speed. It lifted from the ground. It went up to the speed of 180 knots, which is a good acceleration speed.
01:13And possibly after that, technically two, three things have happened. One is the deployment of RAT, which has happened. And the second is that APU, auxiliary power unit, has started operations.
01:29Now, this automatically in an aircraft happens when there is a twin engine failure. So this, as indicated in the report, has happened. And both of things, the APU has started and the initial stages of APU has started and the RAT has deployed.
01:49So it indicates the engine failure has taken place. Meanwhile, the captain, who is the pilot monitoring, who is a senior commander, Captain Sabrawal, very experienced, he possibly checked with the captain, that switch control, has it been put off?
02:02He said, no. That means the captain has been observing whatever is happening. In that 30 seconds, he has done this, he has looked at the aircraft, and he has done a memory action, which I have checked with the captains of 787 Dreamliners.
02:15The memory action for such situation is when you start losing the aircraft, you immediately switch the fuel control switch off and instantly put it on, which he has done in both the cases, because after the crash, both the switches were found in on position.
02:32And thereafter, there is a report also saying that both engines, the left engine and the right engine, in a simple word, they have started spooling up, that power was building up.
02:43But since the height was not enough, the speed was not good enough, the aircraft had to, and there was an obstruction ahead, the aircraft stalled and crashed.
02:53Very tragic. How it happened has been reported, where it has happened, what were the actions taken, what was the communication, all has been reported.
03:03But if it is an indication of a first instance engine flaming out, this investigation possibly we will be looking forward to.
03:14So the audio also, as the report that the fuel has come out, the fuel has…
03:18Yeah, full switch level.
03:19Yes.
03:19So that is a cross-check. Captain, the pilot flying or the pilot monitoring does a lot of cross-check. Every second we are cross-checking with each other. So this is nothing to do, and this is nothing to do with the processes. There are a lot of processes inside the cockpit, and this is one of them, and cross-checking and verifying and correcting it.
03:39I think I leave this politics to my friends and colleagues in politics, and I think it is unfair to be unknowingly making a comment when such a horrific incident has happened, and so many innocent lives on ground, in air, and the crew have been lost, to refrain from making any irresponsible statements, and that includes me.
04:06I am not an expert. I am a captain. I am a politician. I am a member of parliament. But nonetheless, I will still refrain from making any comment which is beyond my domain.
04:13Sir, last night, the cabin crew, Nagantabhar Sharma, she also died. This is very unfortunate. So his father, her father, is saying that this is a very, you know, destiny. It's about to destiny. Do you really…
04:25Well, I am…
04:26I am…
04:27Some of the lab…
04:28No, no. You see, end of the day, end of the day, which is not included in this bite, there was… but we lost more than 260 people. There was one individual who got up and walked away, and that is gone.
04:41And that is God. That is destiny. So if he has a faith that this was destined, I have no comments. Our deepest sympathy with all the families, both crew and on ground, and in the passing, we have the deepest…
04:57Sir, have you come to… who will be the responsible? Air India or…
05:00Well, I am no one. I will not… I will be no one to explain it. Let the people who are… who take a decision on this decide.
05:07Should we wait for another report or something?
05:09Yes, this is a preliminary report. As promised by the government to the world, it has come, time bound. We will have to wait for the future investigation.
