00:00Putting your house up for sale can be very stressful.
00:02And it's an absolute nightmare when you have a house that you can't sell, but must sell.
00:07Our mortgage is now nearly £4,000 a month.
00:10If you don't sell this house...
00:12It would be repossessed.
00:13Some homeowners just cannot see what is staring them straight in the face.
00:17Oh, the smell.
00:18It's like wet dog.
00:19And some buyers just don't have the vision.
00:22No way would I spend £1.3 million on this.
00:25I feel like I'm in a chip shop.
00:26God, I would never buy a house looking like this.
00:29That's where we come in.
00:30My brother Stuart and I have been working together in property for years.
00:33That is very therapeutic.
00:36Scarlett and I know what attracts buyers.
00:38Wow.
00:39These are features that people would pay extra for.
00:41And what sends them running.
00:43Oh, God.
00:44This carpet on the floor.
00:45I hear that.
00:46Every week, we'll be given a house each.
00:48And we'll transform them from unsellable to unbelievable.
00:52Oh, wow.
00:54This kitchen now looks...
00:56Like a million-pound house.
00:58It's gone from drab to fab.
01:01Wow.
01:02I'd definitely be interested in something like this.
01:04Oh, I can't believe this is my house.
01:06And prove you can turn can't-sell houses into must-have homes.
01:10This week, we're in West Sussex to help two houses in serious need of a sale.
01:22But with one property dated and drab, and the other an assault to the senses, there is a lot to do.
01:30Scarlett and I are facing off to revamp these houses in just two days, with £3,000 each.
01:37Oh, my goodness.
01:38There is so much work to do.
01:39This house is huge.
01:41To show how to style a home to sell quickly without breaking the bank.
01:45Looks like it's worth a lot.
01:47It looks like a £20,000 kitchen.
01:50It's lovely, isn't it?
01:55It's beautiful.
01:56I feel like I could be on the French Riviera here.
01:57We're only about 80 miles away from France here.
01:59Not too far.
02:00We are on the south coast, and it's West Sussex.
02:02Yes, which is the sunniest county in the UK.
02:06Beautiful coastline, lovely countryside.
02:08Also a great commute into London.
02:10And it's a buoyant property area.
02:12Yes.
02:13Because around 10,000 houses get sold every year here.
02:15It's a great place to buy.
02:17However, there are two houses on the market that cannot sell, and we need to find out why.
02:22Let's have a look.
02:26Properties in this area are usually snapped up in four months.
02:30But both homes we're seeing today have been on the market for a lot longer than that.
02:37The first house in need of our help is in Bognor Regis, where 60-year-old Tracy has lived all of her life.
02:43Hello.
02:45Can you come back here?
02:46It gets mocked a lot, doesn't it, Bognor Regis?
02:48They laugh about it, but I love it.
02:50We're all sunny people.
02:51We all smile.
02:54Making the locals laugh is Tracy's 200-year-old terrace house, which she's lived in for 17 years and is dotty about.
03:01I wanted it to be a bright colour.
03:03And then I thought, should I put some dots on it, like Noddy's house?
03:09And it just made, everybody went past laughed.
03:12Cheered me up.
03:13The downstairs has also been given the Tracy touch, as the front room has been turned into her bedroom and a false wall has created a dressing room, leaving the kitchen and tiny living room at the back.
03:24I didn't really want to live on my own.
03:25I find it quite lonely. So I've got a couple of lodgers. They've got the upstairs. So I sleep downstairs, like it's one bedroom flat, really. I don't really want to do the stairs.
03:36Tracy struggled with the stairs because of two devastating diagnoses.
03:42I've had cancer twice. I've got through it twice. And I'm like, well, you better make the most of it because you're lucky.
03:47The reason I'm quite desperate to sell is because I don't know what's going to happen in the future with my health.
03:54I don't have to be here for a long time, but I do have to be here for a good time.
03:58Sounds really selfish, doesn't it? But I haven't got any children.
04:00So let's get the house sold, go on a little journey around this country, spend all the money and then clock out.
04:08Tracy listed her house seven months ago and despite dropping the price by £20,000 to £330,000, it's had no viewings.
04:17I love my house. I can't understand why everyone else doesn't. Because I think it's great.
04:24And until it sells, Tracy's dream is on hold.
04:28My worst fear is dying before I sell it. And that, if I wasn't already dead, that would kill me.
04:34It's time to meet Tracy and help her to finally get her house off the market.
04:43That is the problem.
04:45If I saw that on a listing, I would think, I'm all right, thanks.
04:50OK, so before we talk about your house, why is it that you're selling?
04:56Because I got diagnosed with throat cancer in 2021 on my 15th birthday.
05:01I've got over the cancer, but it's a life changer.
05:05Yeah, yeah.
05:05So I want to sell my house because I want to spend all the money.
05:09OK.
05:09That's as simple as it is.
05:10Or on another house or just on experiences?
05:11No, no, on as much luxury as I can get. It's my last chapter, so it's got to be the best one.
05:17Of course.
05:17This is the first time I've ever met anybody like you where this is the reason.
05:21And you know what? I love it.
05:22It's a hard decision to make.
05:24Yeah.
05:24But once you've made this decision, it's easy.
05:27Did you expect your house to sell quickly?
05:28Yeah, I couldn't understand it.
05:30I thought, what is it that they can't see that I can see?
05:34But to us, it's crystal clear that no viewings in seven months means something is seriously wrong.
05:40So we've asked some local property enthusiasts to view her home and spell out why it's not selling.
05:45It's very bright.
05:46First-time buyers, Terrence and Rose.
05:49It looks like a toadstool, doesn't it?
05:51Property mad, Ariana.
05:52It just feels a bit musky and dirty.
05:56Jeez.
05:57Feng Shui, Geary, Quentin.
05:59Looks neglected, to be honest.
06:01Ooh.
06:02And straight-talking serial property viewer, Lynn.
06:05No, that's definitely not for me.
06:07They're the perfect people to give the inside scoop on why this property can't sell, so it's crucial Tracy takes heed.
06:14I'm actually excited about what they're going to say, because that's how I'm going to learn.
06:18Exactly that.
06:19Oh, look at my house.
06:21Wow.
06:22It just reminds me of, like, a clown.
06:25God, I can't even imagine what the inside looks like.
06:28I like the size of the room, but personally, I think bedrooms should be upstairs.
06:33Really?
06:34God, I would never buy a house looking like this.
06:36I don't know what I have to say.
06:38It's horrible, horrible room.
06:39It's horrible.
06:41Horrible.
06:42Broken cupboards doesn't leave a very good first impression.
06:45So I'm absolutely gobsmacked.
06:47See, when I go and look at a house, I don't look at the furniture, because I'm not buying the furniture, I'm buying the house.
06:52Yeah.
06:53These double doors, they take up half the hallway when you open them.
06:57I was expecting maybe a dining room area.
07:00Is this like a closet room?
07:01I don't think I've all tried downstairs next to my kitchen is something that would appeal to me as a buyer or a lot of people.
07:10Very small sort of lounging.
07:12Yeah.
07:12Or make-do.
07:13It's not a living area.
07:14This would make more sense at the front of the house.
07:16It's a no from me.
07:17It's just too mismatched.
07:20It's not modern.
07:21And I hate the outside.
07:23It doesn't feel like it could be a family home.
07:26Rooms mixed around.
07:28I can see that that would put a lot of people off.
07:30But I do like the actual building.
07:32It's got a lot of potential.
07:34Yeah.
07:34I love that she landed on it's got a lot of potential because it has.
07:38I'm shocked.
07:39I mean, I wouldn't care if I walked in there.
07:41That's a bedroom.
07:42Not everyone has the vision.
07:43I can't believe I've got it so wrong.
07:46One of us will be back and we are going to get this house up to scratch and we are going to hopefully get you this house sold.
07:51Do you look excited?
07:52I am excited.
07:53Brilliant.
07:53But we'll see you very soon.
07:55Okay, lovely.
07:56Bye-bye.
07:56This is probably one of the most quirky, unconventional houses I've ever seen.
08:05But I do believe that you could transform this place.
08:09Why are you giving it to me?
08:10It's the polka dot.
08:11I can't do the polka dot.
08:12You could deal with this house.
08:13You could do that.
08:15The second house that's in need of our help is in Chichester, West Sussex's only city.
08:21Tatiana and Eric have been married for 15 years.
08:24I got on one knee down there and I proposed to my wife.
08:27I did plan to do it in Africa, but I couldn't wait.
08:30I was too excited.
08:32They've lived in the other love of Eric's life, their 1920s country house for 20 years.
08:38I remember first walking in here and thinking, wow.
08:41When I got the keys, it was the best day of my life.
08:44It was the house that we'd always dreamed of.
08:47Perfect for us for bringing up a family.
08:49The 2,500 square foot property has two living rooms, a dining room and a kitchen, which might
08:56have been top of the range 20 years ago, but is now looking dated and drab.
09:02As is the decor, which is Eric's domain.
09:05I've always had white walls.
09:07I like the simplicity of it.
09:10It just looks fresh.
09:11But I think it's maybe time for a change.
09:15After nine months and 11 viewings, there's still no sign of a sale, even though they've
09:20slashed the price by 200k to 1.3 million.
09:24I cannot put my hat on it.
09:26Like, what's going wrong?
09:28Why people don't see this house with the same eyes that I've seen it 20 years ago?
09:33And now, their dream home is turning into a financial nightmare.
09:38We're in desperate need of help to sell this, because with the interest rates hikes, our
09:45mortgage is now nearly £4,000 a month, which is eating us up alive financially.
09:52Well, it's been frustrating and worrying, and we did have some sleepless nights.
09:57The situation does get worse day by day.
09:59In the next few months, we're potentially going to lose our home.
10:03The clock is ticking for Eric and Tatiana.
10:08This is beautiful.
10:10Great-sized grounds.
10:12From here, looks unbelievably inviting, so something must be going wrong.
10:19Time for us to meet this couple in crisis.
10:22What a house you have here.
10:24Oh, thank you.
10:25Yeah, that's what we think.
10:26Yeah, you wanted to sell it.
10:28Yeah.
10:28Why?
10:29Interest rates went up, so our mortgage went up ten times.
10:34Oh, yeah.
10:35Now it's nearly on £4,000 a month.
10:37We're just getting desperate now.
10:39Yeah.
10:39We're running out of time to sell it.
10:41So we have to get this place sold ASAP?
10:44Yes.
10:44There's a lot of stake here.
10:46Eric and Tatiana are in dire straits.
10:51We have to figure out why potential buyers aren't biting, so our local property enthusiasts are back to look around.
10:59Getting nervous now.
11:00Are you?
11:01Do you want to see them?
11:02Yes.
11:02I absolutely love everything about it, and if the inside is anything like the outside, I can't wait to see it.
11:13Once I've walked in the door and looked around, I feel very let down.
11:18It should be more inviting.
11:21I've come in, and I feel like walking back out again.
11:23I mean, it's just white, it's just bland.
11:27It needs, like, the wow factor.
11:31There are a lot of white walls.
11:33Oh, we're looking at you, are we, Eric?
11:35That is a very good point.
11:36I'd always had everything white.
11:38It always makes it feel a bit bigger.
11:40But it can also make it feel empty.
11:43I feel really let down.
11:45The outside of the house stands out, and then you come inside, and it looks like straight-out catalogue.
11:52In my opinion.
11:52I don't like the cupboards.
11:54I think the cupboards are really, really dated.
11:57Yeah, we've moved back into the 80s and 90s.
12:00Beach-coloured cabinet doors, and these tiles.
12:04It's just shabby.
12:05Oh, I don't like this.
12:07It's very mismatched.
12:08It is mismatched.
12:09Different patterns, different chairs.
12:12Ah, this is not nice.
12:13I don't like anything that's been used in this room, and it's putting me off the actual house.
12:19Feels too dull and dated.
12:21If it had a colour injection, it would look amazing, especially with all the light coming
12:25in from here.
12:26I agree.
12:27I think the outside of the property is lovely, but the inside is a little bit plain.
12:31And for the amount of money the property costs, I would expect more.
12:34No way would I spend 1.3 million on this.
12:37So, there you have it.
12:38Lots of work.
12:39That's exactly feedback we had before.
12:41Now I understand why lots of work well.
12:44There are ways which we can transform this house without breaking the bank.
12:49That would be amazing.
12:50Wow.
12:50That sounds incredible.
12:50This is very, very simple.
12:55Make the interior as good as the exterior, and one of us has to deliver it.
13:00Regardless of which one that is, there's going to be a lot of work.
13:03Yeah.
13:04Good luck.
13:04We'll have just two days and 3,000 pounds each to transform these houses before the property
13:14enthusiasts are back.
13:15Now to see who gets which one.
13:18We've got two very different houses.
13:20Yes.
13:21But both need a lot of work.
13:22A lot of work.
13:23Ready?
13:24Let's see.
13:24Oh, yes.
13:29Eric and Tatiana's bland, boring house.
13:32And I have Tracy's red polka dot house.
13:35I'm going to be turning this house from drab to fab, and you're going to be going dotty.
13:39And potty.
13:40Yeah.
13:40Yeah, you will be.
13:41Stuart and I are in West Sussex to help two totally different houses with one thing in
13:57common.
13:58They're stuck on the market.
14:00In Bognor Regis, two-time cancer survivor Tracy is desperate to sell her house and finally
14:05move on to a new chapter.
14:06Our local property enthusiast didn't pull any punches in saying what they thought prevented
14:11any viewings.
14:12It's horrible.
14:14Horrible.
14:15The clown-like front, all that clutter, and a house split in two so her lodgers can live
14:21upstairs and her downstairs means she's not showing what should be a three-bedroom family
14:26home to its full potential.
14:29Tracy.
14:30Why?
14:31You have got me.
14:33Fantastic.
14:34Right.
14:35Now armed with the facts, it's my job to transform Tracy's home and make it more attractive to
14:40buyers, starting with a clothing declutter.
14:43I've worn this for a long time.
14:45That's nice.
14:46I wouldn't mind giving all my clothes to charity and just starting again.
14:50Really?
14:50Yeah, because I really see it as a new start.
14:52Okay.
14:53So I'm doing quite well.
14:54I'm in remission.
14:55That's why I'm on this journey, because I can't give up.
14:59I feel quite privileged to be part of this journey.
15:01Oh, thank you.
15:02It's scary, but exciting at the same time.
15:04Oh, yeah, yeah.
15:05It's been the hardest two years of my life, you know, and I feel it's like a reward.
15:09Yeah.
15:09Let's get your house transformed.
15:11Yeah.
15:11Let's get it sold, and then you can move on to the next chapter.
15:15Yeah.
15:15While I crack on with decluttering, over in Chichester, Scarlet's tackling the transformation
15:21of the tired country house.
15:24Eric and Tatiana's massive mortgage means they could lose their home if they don't sell
15:28soon.
15:29The property enthusiasts were crystal clear in what was turning buyers off.
15:33I've come in, and I feel like walking back out again.
15:37The outside is the perfect iconic country house, but inside it's totally vanilla and charmless.
15:44Hello.
15:45Hi.
15:46You have me.
15:47Yay.
15:47Oh, thank you.
15:48Yes.
15:48It's my job to revamp this £1.3 million period property and give it the wow factor to appeal
15:54to buyers.
15:55It's a massive four-bedroom family home with three reception rooms, a huge garden, and
16:01priced lower than similar-sized local properties.
16:03So, with all that potential, it should be selling.
16:07I am very excited about this because I am the queen of colour, and I feel as though that
16:12is what this house needs.
16:14It needs personality.
16:15It needs excitement.
16:16All the things I see when I look at the two of you, but don't see in the house.
16:20So, I'm taking bits of your personalities, and I'm going to just splash it all over.
16:25Wow.
16:26How exciting.
16:27Exciting.
16:27Transforming Eric and Tatiana's huge home from drab to fab in just two days is a massive
16:35task, so I've got lots of help, including stylist Natalie and handyman Scott.
16:41Good morning.
16:42How are you both?
16:42Really good.
16:43Very well.
16:43Good.
16:44As I'm sure you've seen, this is a very big house, which means we have a very big job in
16:48two days.
16:48So, things we really need to do is add some colour, inject some life into this place,
16:52and for a £1.3 million house, sort out the kitchen.
16:55It's going to look completely different when it's done.
16:58New doors, we're going to have new tiles, minimal spend, but maximum effect.
17:03That's what I like to hear, yes.
17:05Now, we're going to inject some colour in this place, and introduce lots of pattern through
17:08first-off furnishings and things.
17:10Are we ready?
17:10Let's do it.
17:11I'm ready.
17:11Team Scarlet all the way.
17:12Bye.
17:15Sold prices in this area have gone up by 7%, but this one has just been reduced by £200,000
17:21and still can't sell, as the interior just doesn't live up to its price tag.
17:28The kitchen was the biggest issue for the property enthusiast, who called it an old-fashioned
17:32letdown.
17:34So, I've asked Scott to fix it fast.
17:37Realistically, you'd want to replace this whole kitchen, but we know that a kitchen this
17:40size, we could be looking up to 30, maybe even 40 grand.
17:43Yeah, for sure, yeah.
17:44Money that definitely Eric and Tatiana do not have.
17:47We need to fully revive this kitchen, and one of the ways we're going to do that is
17:50we're going to replace these doors.
17:53Replacing the doors will give the look of an expensive new kitchen without breaking the
17:57bank, perfect for attracting potential buyers.
18:00So, it's going to look like that when it's done.
18:03That colour that has popped into the kitchen makes me so unbelievably happy.
18:07And wait until the tiles go on as well.
18:09When people walk in, they're going to see it and think, yes, this is what I want from a
18:13kitchen in a house like this.
18:15We've chosen gorgeous patterned tiles and rich colours to give the locks look in keeping
18:20with the property's character.
18:23And to save much-needed time and money, Scott's tiling directly on top of the old ones.
18:29Oh, my goodness, there is so much work to do.
18:31This house is huge.
18:32We're working hard.
18:33I know from a fact to it, it's not working as hard as we are, but hey-ho, it's not a
18:37competition.
18:38Oh, wait.
18:38Yes, it is.
18:40Excuse me, sis.
18:41We're working far harder than you, as there's a mountain of clearing to do at Tracey's.
18:46She hasn't had any viewings in seven months, so we've got to make her home appeal to the
18:50target market of families and couples.
18:53And with such a mammoth mission, I've called in my A-team, including Stylist Lucy and Carpenter
18:59Tibby.
19:01Guys, please tell me what you think.
19:03What have you guys interested in?
19:05We've got two weeks on this one.
19:06No, we haven't.
19:07We've got two days and we've got a limited budget.
19:10Okay.
19:10This is a family house.
19:12At the moment, Tracey's not using it as that, so we need to change that, right?
19:16The bedroom, we have to transform that back into a living room.
19:19Absolutely.
19:19It's got lovely old features.
19:20The fireplace, I'm quite excited to maybe put some tiles in there.
19:24Yeah, I think it could be really nice.
19:25So we've gone past there into the narrow hallway, which for me is way too narrow.
19:30Yes.
19:30That room, I don't know what it is.
19:32We need to open that space up.
19:34We have to open it up.
19:34Yeah.
19:35Somehow.
19:35Somehow.
19:36It needs to be a dining room.
19:37Yeah.
19:38We only have two days to do it.
19:39Yeah, I'd like to start.
19:40All right, let's go.
19:41The average terraced house in this area is snapped up in four months, but Tracey's has
19:46been on a lot longer, with the cramped, confusing, one-bed-flat layout a huge reason why.
19:52So we are overhauling everything by turning it back into a family-friendly living space
19:57and keeping all the bedrooms upstairs.
20:00You've got a sledgehammer.
20:01Can I swing?
20:02Got another swing.
20:05That is very therapeutic.
20:07And the first job is the biggest, as I've asked Tibby to open it all up to create a
20:13spacious hallway and dining room.
20:16Money, budget, time.
20:17The whole wall could be a bit too much.
20:20Rather than taking the complete wall down, just making the opening much more bigger.
20:24Okay.
20:25So it still gives it that illusion that the wall's been taken down.
20:27Yeah, yeah.
20:28But at the same time, we're not creating too much work.
20:30Yeah, it makes sense.
20:32Not too much work is exactly what we need when making any house more sellable.
20:36Even on my own renovations and I'm developing my own properties, I like to get stuck in.
20:43Why pay for someone else to do that when you can do it yourself?
20:48We're opening up the partition wall, but if it was load-bearing, it would need to be reinforced
20:52by a professional.
20:54Oh, there he goes.
20:56This is a Tibby that we all know and love.
20:58How much better?
21:09Looks bigger already, doesn't it?
21:10Already, yeah.
21:10So all the dust and dirt over me in my hair was worthwhile.
21:16In my beard as well.
21:18Now we have the interior layout sorted, it's time to give the outside a much-needed lick
21:23of paint.
21:24The property enthusiast called it clown-like, and since three-quarters of buyers think
21:29first impressions are everything, this is no laughing matter.
21:32I'm not against red.
21:35I'm just against red when it's used like this.
21:38So we're just going to try and dampen it down.
21:40First impressions count, I say it over and over and over.
21:43With the house looking fresher, the cherry on top is repainting the cherry red front door
21:48in a more complimentary colour.
21:50This is the blue that we're going for, which I absolutely love.
21:55For just a few quid in paint, you can transform the front of your house for a fraction of
22:00the cost of a new door.
22:02The blue on the red, it will be a great contrast, but then when they go through the hall into
22:07the living room, it will also be blue, so it flows.
22:10Impact that colours make, very powerful.
22:12And if you get it right, a prospective buyer will remember that there's colour, there's a
22:17thought that's gone into the house, and also it shows a little bit of personality.
22:20Back in Chichester, we're also going colourful to make it far more appealing to million-pound
22:26buyers.
22:27We're giving character and charm to the drab white walls, and now I'm checking in on the
22:32progress of what was the worst room, the kitchen, which should be the best.
22:37Oh my goodness.
22:41Such a transformation, right?
22:42Oh my goodness.
22:43Look at what's been done in a few hours, right?
22:45It's not cost a huge amount.
22:46How much would you say that for all of the new cabinet doors and the tiles?
22:49£1,500.
22:50It just goes to show that you can make a huge change with, A, not a huge amount of
22:55time, and B, not a huge budget.
22:57Anyone can do this in their kitchen.
22:59Definitely.
23:00We might have spent half of our £3,000 budget here, but I know the kitchen can make or break
23:06a sale, so it's money well spent.
23:09Hello.
23:09Come through.
23:10Wow.
23:11That's amazing.
23:12Wow, that's amazing.
23:13It really is.
23:14Is this our kitchen, really?
23:15Yeah.
23:16Right?
23:17Honestly, the kitchen that you had here before was dated.
23:20It didn't work in this house.
23:20Oh, it's awful.
23:21It's awful.
23:21I like that you said awful and not me, Eric.
23:23I can see it.
23:24It can take colour, this space.
23:25It's a big kitchen.
23:26And they're just new doors.
23:27Wow.
23:28Oh, it just looks so different and so much better.
23:31So amazing.
23:32Yeah.
23:32I mean, I'm looking at that room.
23:34It's white.
23:34It looks awful.
23:35Do you know what?
23:36I'm glad you're looking at that room, because that's where we're going now.
23:38Follow me.
23:38Come on.
23:39Thanks, Nat.
23:39I'll see you in a minute.
23:40Thanks, Scott.
23:42To further maximise any property's potential, every room should have a purpose.
23:47That's why I'm switching some around.
23:49There's already a large living room, so I'm turning what was the mismatched mundane dining
23:54room into a cosy snug, perfect for a family.
23:57Come on in then to the dull drab room.
24:02That's just white.
24:03Wow.
24:04This looks awful.
24:06Is that what you think?
24:07No, it really does look drab.
24:09It's a big job, so I'm getting my new colour convert to help.
24:13Wow.
24:14Love it.
24:15I think that'll make it more cosy.
24:17Yeah?
24:18So are you ready to get painting?
24:19Absolutely.
24:20Yeah.
24:20Go for it, considering you have not painted colour on walls.
24:23For how long would you say?
24:24How many years?
24:25I'd say about 40.
24:2640 years?
24:28Oh, yeah.
24:30Isn't that lovely?
24:31This is going to look so good.
24:33I'm so happy.
24:34This is about the best day I've had in the last 10 or 12 years.
24:39Really?
24:39Yeah.
24:41There's a lot of money that you have to now pay out a month to keep this house, which
24:45must be stressful.
24:47Well, it does keep you awake at night.
24:49£4,000 a month is not easy to find.
24:52And because it went up so fast, we were potentially thinking, well, we're going to lose the house
24:59if we don't sell it.
25:00It's been very stressful.
25:02Eric stopped sleeping altogether, I think.
25:04Oh, really?
25:05It's been going on for nine months now.
25:08And there was no hope in the future.
25:11Yeah.
25:12That's what affected us a lot.
25:14Yeah.
25:14We sort of ran out of hope when people stopped viewing the house, really.
25:18Yeah.
25:18But this is looking as though it's giving me hope.
25:21Good.
25:22I'm glad.
25:23And let's hope that those sleepful nights are imminent.
25:27Yes.
25:28Yes.
25:29Well, I will be sleeping well tonight.
25:30Might be all the fumes from the paint.
25:32I'm making Eric and Tatiana's home more appealing to their target market.
25:39So as they crack on, I've come to an apartment to show how you can do the same no matter what
25:44style of house you have.
25:45One of my top tips when you're selling your house is to put yourself in the shoes of any
25:49potential buyer.
25:50Make sure that your house is not cluttered.
25:53Depersonalise.
25:54Get rid of photos and ornaments because it makes it feel too cramped.
25:5794% of estate agents say you'll sell your home sooner if potential buyers can imagine
26:02themselves living there.
26:05Also, the flow of a roof.
26:06Where have you placed your furniture?
26:08Is it interrupted your walkway in?
26:10You don't want that.
26:11You want it to just feel like it's constantly flowing.
26:14And when I'm talking about flow as well, I also mean the interior design thread of it.
26:18Is there a theme that runs through your home?
26:20You really want something to feel harmonious.
26:23You want your house to be as inviting as possible.
26:25You want those buyers to walk in and feel as though this could be where they want to live.
26:33I'm back at Eric and Tatiana's to see the knee snug.
26:37Oh, wow.
26:39Look at this room.
26:41Do you love it?
26:42Absolutely.
26:42Love it.
26:43It's going to feel so cosy in here.
26:45I already can picture myself in here.
26:47Watching TV, being all cosy.
26:50Yeah, that's what you want because that's what you want prospective buyers to feel like when
26:53they walk in, they want to feel as though they could really be in this space.
26:56I've really enjoyed doing it.
26:57I've loved seeing it go from that drab white to this beautiful colour.
27:01Yeah.
27:01Look at him, drab white.
27:02I know.
27:03I'm loving this.
27:05I'm really excited about this room now.
27:07Good.
27:07I'm glad.
27:08Keep going.
27:09You've got a little bit here and a bit here.
27:11Oh, quite a big bit there.
27:12Good to see you.
27:13That reaction was a real ray of light as darkness falls.
27:18We can only hope prospective buyers feel the same way when they see the transformed house.
27:23It is nearly the end of the day.
27:25The house is looking less tired.
27:26My team definitely looking more tired, but it's all been worth it.
27:29We have to get this house done for Eric and Tatiana.
27:32And if we've got a lot to do, we've got a lot to do.
27:35It just means we're going to have to stay here for quite a while until it's all done.
27:38But it will be.
27:39I'm looking forward to it.
27:39In West Sussex, Scarlett and I are transforming two properties that are totally unsellable.
27:52With one house each, we have just two days and £3,000 to show, with not much time or money,
27:59you can style any home to shift it a lot faster.
28:02Perfecting the basics like design, decor and the all-important first impression
28:07will make these properties instantly more appealing.
28:09and hopefully get them finally sold.
28:12But it's tougher than ever this week, with our biggest house yet to transform in just two days.
28:19It is day two at Eric and Tatiana's country house.
28:22We are turning it from dated and drab to chic and unique.
28:26There is a lot of work to be done, so the pressure really is on.
28:29In Bognor, I'm working tirelessly to help cancer survivor Tracy sell her home.
28:36Good boy.
28:37So she can start her next chapter.
28:40With lodgers living upstairs, we've made huge strides inside to turn this house as much as possible
28:44back to a traditional family-friendly layout.
28:47Now, we're turning this bedroom back to a living room, before creating another sleeping area for Tracy.
28:53Yeah.
28:54I don't really like to throw furniture away.
28:56Unfortunately, this one has had its day.
28:59This is a crucial job, as properly stayed homes are usually snapped up in half the time.
29:05And to give it the wow factor, Lucy and I are given one of the room's main features a new lease of life.
29:11I love what you've done with the fireplace.
29:15Yeah, so it was kind of boarded up when we came.
29:17It looks very high-end.
29:19It is high-end.
29:20These stars weren't cheap.
29:21I can imagine.
29:22But we only needed a few, so it's okay.
29:24It's classic, but it's contemporary.
29:26You've highlighted what's already here.
29:28What's already here.
29:29When you've only got two days and not much budget, that's what you have to do, really.
29:32Yeah.
29:32Work with what you've got and utilise it and make the most of it.
29:35Showing off original period features like fireplaces and flooring to their full potential
29:40are serious selling points to prospective buyers.
29:44Like that, I think.
29:45You're the artistic director, right?
29:46If you can hold that there, we're going to be two hours.
29:47They're quite heavy.
29:48Perfect.
29:49Cool.
29:50As Tracy's health means she can't do any heavy work, I've got an art project for her to add colour and character to her home.
29:57Big or small, what do you want?
29:58A small one.
29:58Small one, yeah?
29:59Yeah.
30:00You can cut in.
30:01Absolutely, why not?
30:02Lucy has been very clever.
30:03She bought this frame for £5 from a second-hand shop.
30:07Wow.
30:07Now, we love to upcycle.
30:09So, we're going to paint it a block colour.
30:11Great.
30:12Just to make your room lift a little bit.
30:13Yeah.
30:14To get this house sold.
30:15What would it mean?
30:15Oh, the world.
30:16I can't wait to spend my money.
30:18Really, yeah?
30:19What is the first thing you're going to buy?
30:21A car.
30:21Okay.
30:22I've never explored this country before.
30:24I'm sure there's so much for me to see.
30:26You've come through cancer twice, but you've not let it stop you.
30:30Where did you get that from?
30:31When you've been through something as dramatic as cancer, to go through that and just sit
30:36indoors and not do anything with the rest of what I have got left, be criminal.
30:42I think so many people would look up to that.
30:45I can't tell you how excited I am.
30:46Really?
30:47Yeah.
30:47Oh, that's good.
30:48That's really good.
30:49Makes me feel alive.
30:50Oh, listen.
30:51This is for the next chapter.
30:53Yeah.
30:53And it will be a great chapter.
30:55It's going to be.
30:55In Chichista, there's another room switch underway to give Eric and Tatiana's home the much-needed
31:05wow factor and flow it deserves.
31:07So I'm turning the drab, soulless living room into an exciting, entertaining space to entice
31:12offers from affluent families, complete with matching upcycled seating sourced from a pub
31:18for just £10 each.
31:20Perfect when starting to sell on a shoestring.
31:22I absolutely love upcycling.
31:25I think it's relaxing and it's really rewarding as well once you've finished it and you see
31:29the results.
31:30This part of it, don't love that much.
31:33Chewing gum on the bottom of chairs, gross things that you find.
31:37But you know what?
31:37Sometimes you just have to get over it, get on with it, because it's going to be so much
31:41better in the end.
31:43I can guarantee you Stuart is not doing this sort of stuff.
31:45He doesn't get his hands dirty, that one.
31:48Whereas I don't mind it.
31:48And after sanding, staining and painting, the new dining room has some sumptuous seating
31:55for a total cost of £100.
31:57Miss, what room?
31:59Ooh.
32:01Just picture this.
32:02Table moved to one side, bifolds open, summer's day.
32:06You've got a dance floor, babe.
32:06We have a party house.
32:08Yes.
32:09I like it.
32:10Good work.
32:12I've saved the most important job till last, the bland, boring entrance.
32:16Now, I know from experience, buyers make their minds up within 30 seconds, and this made
32:21the property enthusiasts want to leave immediately.
32:24Oh my gosh, this colour nut is gorgeous.
32:28It's really going to add some drama.
32:31It's as though these walls have always wanted colour on them.
32:36We've chosen modern shades with earthy tones.
32:39When using bold colours, there's a fine line between garish and cool.
32:42So, we're going for cool, with depth and style to attract a modern family.
32:46I think it can be tempting when redecorating to move.
32:50You want to neutralise everything and strip the house of personality and colour.
32:53However, for this house, for its grandeur, it needs personality.
32:57It can carry it.
32:58Oh, hello.
33:04Hello.
33:04Hello.
33:05What do you think of it?
33:07It's like a stately home.
33:08It is, isn't it?
33:09Yeah.
33:10And that is what you've got here.
33:11You've got a big countryside home that can take this colour, this dramatic entrance.
33:18Now, the white up there, and I can't wait to see the back of it.
33:21Yes.
33:22No more white.
33:23This is absolutely wonderful.
33:24In Bognor...
33:27It's going to be tight around this corner.
33:29It's going to be okay.
33:31Can we go a little bit more towards your wall with that?
33:32I can go towards...
33:34We're through.
33:34..our final task is to tackle what was the only living room in the house
33:38and that the property enthusiast found pokey and pointless.
33:42So, we're going to give it a purpose.
33:44I think it's really clever.
33:4580% of UK organisations now adopt hybrid working, so...
33:50You kind of have to move with the times.
33:51Yeah.
33:52But also, kids need to do their homework.
33:54So, you know, mum's cooking in the kitchen, the little ones are watching the telly,
33:57she's doing her homework, but during the day when the kid's at school,
33:59it can be utilised by the parents.
34:01Like, everyone needs a space to work from.
34:06Wow.
34:07I can't believe it's the same room.
34:09I can't believe it.
34:10This room is going to serve as a dual-purpose room.
34:13When a family comes to see this house, each room...
34:17Has got a purpose, hasn't it?
34:18Has got a purpose.
34:18So, now do you understand why to make these changes?
34:22Yeah, I get it now.
34:24Everything finally clicking for Tracey, I've got one last surprise for her.
34:28Oh, wow.
34:29Do you want me to love?
34:30A new sofa bed so she can still sleep downstairs
34:32while keeping the look of the living space for potential buyers.
34:36Comfy?
34:36Oh, it's lovely.
34:37Is it lovely?
34:38I tell you what, you wouldn't think that would be so comfortable.
34:42And you just click it.
34:43Click it up so I can sit next to you.
34:45This is really nice.
34:47It's lovely, right?
34:48I love it.
34:49I'm going to let you just stay in here and enjoy it
34:51because you know what?
34:51This is what you want prospective buyers to do.
34:53And then they can imagine themselves living here.
34:55Right.
34:56Could they be four?
34:58No.
34:58No.
34:59Can they now?
35:00Yeah, I would have thought so.
35:01Enjoy it.
35:01I've got a crack on.
35:02Don't work too hard.
35:03Stuart and I only had two days and £3,000 each
35:10to turn around these unsellable homes.
35:12Please, please, let's pull together
35:13and let's rush, rush, rush, let's get it done.
35:15We can do this.
35:16The local property enthusiasts are back tomorrow
35:18to cast their new verdicts
35:19before both houses are put back on the market.
35:22Oh, oh, oh.
35:23The smell of victory.
35:25The sweet smell of success.
35:26Fingers crossed our hard work will change their minds
35:29and give both Tracey, Tatiana and Eric
35:32the belief that they can finally sell their homes.
35:35Tell you what, that was a mammoth, mammoth job.
35:39Oh, it was.
35:40Obviously, this is about Eric and Tatiana
35:41getting this place sold because they are struggling.
35:44I think we smashed it.
35:45What are you most happy with?
35:46Oh, man, the kitchen is unreal.
35:47Yeah, honestly, that has given this house
35:49a whole new lease of life, hasn't it?
35:51Oh, yeah.
35:52Nah, it looks premium.
35:53It doesn't look sad and tired anymore.
35:56It looks top-notch.
35:57Let's just hope everybody loves it as much as we do.
35:59Yeah, sure.
36:00Yes, in the bag.
36:09In West Sussex, Scarlett and I have been helping
36:11two desperate sets of homeowners
36:13to finally sell their properties.
36:16I was given the task of transforming
36:18Eric and Tatiana's £1.3 million country home.
36:22This is about the best day I've had
36:24in the last 10 or 12 years.
36:26Really?
36:27With no sale in nine months,
36:29their crippling mortgage payments
36:30mean they could lose their home
36:32if they don't sell soon.
36:36So, obviously, from the outside to it,
36:38there wasn't a huge amount that we could do.
36:40No, it wasn't out here that was the problem.
36:42It was in there.
36:42Exactly.
36:43So, do you want to see it?
36:43I can't wait.
36:44My team and I had just two days
36:48and a small budget
36:49to revamp their period property.
36:53Before, the exterior of Eric and Tatiana's home
36:56was impressive and grand,
36:57but the interior was boring and bland.
37:00Now, the entrance is totally transformed.
37:06Gone are the white walls with a bold colour,
37:08giving it the same wow factor as the outside.
37:11And the stylish fixtures and fittings
37:13give the luxe look of a boutique hotel,
37:15perfectly complementing the property's period features.
37:20Come in.
37:21I like it.
37:22Now, the entrance hall
37:24is befitting of the outside of the house.
37:27Yeah.
37:27But it's only the start
37:29and it's the kitchen that was the problem for me.
37:33Eric and Tatiana's old-fashioned kitchen
37:35totally turned off buyers,
37:37with its out-of-date
37:38and out-of-style units and tiles.
37:46Now, it's unrecognisable.
37:48New doors and tiles in classy, contemporary colours
37:52means this kitchen has gone from drab to fab
37:54for the fraction of the cost of a new one.
37:58Come in.
38:00Oh, my word.
38:01Oh.
38:02I like it.
38:03I really do.
38:04This kitchen now looks like it's worth a lot.
38:08It looks like a £20,000 kitchen.
38:10Exactly that.
38:11It's £1,500.
38:16The dining room was dull and depressing.
38:22But now it's a warm, welcoming snug,
38:26ideal for a family to kick back and relax.
38:30OK.
38:31It's really nice.
38:32It's design-led.
38:33And I can imagine myself sitting here.
38:35Yeah.
38:36My favourite part about this room
38:37is the fact that I got Eric and Tatiana
38:39to come in and paint it.
38:42He's now converted into a colour lover.
38:44That is impressive.
38:46The living room was a whitewashed solar space.
38:50But now it's an impressive entertaining area.
38:53It looks like a million-pound house now.
38:56It has got the grandeur that it deserves.
38:58Yeah.
38:58You've definitely brought this house back to life.
39:00I'm thrilled that Stuart loves the new look of this house.
39:04And I hope the local property enthusiasts agree.
39:07But first, let's see what Eric and Tatiana think.
39:09Wow.
39:10I'm speechless.
39:12I love it so much.
39:13Yeah.
39:14Shame we have to sell this house.
39:15I know.
39:16Absolutely wonderful.
39:17I'm surprised we were trying to sell it in its...
39:19As it was.
39:19As it was before.
39:22You have to sell this house.
39:24Do you feel as though there's a better chance?
39:26If hope is back in our lives.
39:28Let's have a little look.
39:29But what will the property enthusiasts think this time?
39:33Oh, wow.
39:35What a difference.
39:38Now, the inside is just as magical as the outside.
39:42It certainly looks more prestige and more like a £1.3 million house.
39:48Well, I think this kitchen is definitely a selling point.
39:51This will add more interest and more value to the house.
39:55Wow.
39:56The theme is amazing.
39:57It really increases that salability because you feel inviting.
40:01Great use of space.
40:02I think changing these over and swapping these two rooms over was a really, really good idea.
40:07And you could really imagine living here.
40:10The family can certainly see themselves here.
40:13Great for entertaining, right onto the garden.
40:16Fantastic.
40:17This property was lacking the wow factor.
40:20But now, so well presented and it's got the luxe look.
40:23It's worth probably 1.3, possibly even more.
40:27The price might even have gone up.
40:29It's like a totally different house.
40:31Now, the inside has the wow factor.
40:35Majestic is the word that I'd use.
40:38There you go.
40:39Majestic. That's the word that I would use.
40:40That is the word of the day, I think.
40:42Majestic.
40:43Majestic. What do you make of all those comments?
40:45Very encouraging.
40:46Very encouraging.
40:47Yeah.
40:49Oh, you're welcome.
40:49Thank you for letting me and my team actually come in and kind of give the house the makeover
40:53that we believed it deserved.
40:55And I really hope now I have everything crossed that you get more viewers through the door
40:59and you get this place sold so that you're not spending out so much money a month
41:03and you can actually get a nice, restful, nice sleep.
41:06Well, I'll tell you that, actually.
41:07Thank you for giving us hope back to our life.
41:09Yeah, thank you so much.
41:10Thank you so much.
41:12An amazing outcome for Eric and Tatiana.
41:15I'm optimistic we've done enough to get their house sold
41:18and escape their massive mortgage and fear of losing their home.
41:21In Bognor, I cannot wait for you to see the house
41:29and just how hard we've grafted over the last two days.
41:33Before, Tracy's home may have amused the locals
41:36but was turning away buyers with its clown-like polka dots.
41:40Now they're gone and the house is still a vivid red
41:44to incorporate Tracy's taste, but it's far crisper and cleaner,
41:48complemented by a fresh white wall and the gorgeous blue front door.
41:53Ooh, it looks a lot better.
41:56We've done the best of what we could do with the outside
41:59but it's the inside that's really changed.
42:01All right then, let's have a little look.
42:05Before, the front room bewildered and bemused buyers
42:08as a bedroom crammed with clutter and broken furniture.
42:14Now it's a light, bright, inviting family room,
42:17perfect for prospective purchasers.
42:20Oh, wow.
42:23I love the fact that this is now a living room
42:25and actually it feels so much bigger as well
42:27than it did when the bed was in here.
42:30The middle of the house was confusing and crammed
42:32with a narrow hallway and a dressing room in disarray.
42:35With the forcible flattened, it now flows to an open-plan,
42:43delightful dining room in keeping with the character of the house.
42:47Talk to me.
42:49I'm actually speechless.
42:51I never thought I'd ever hear you say that.
42:53I get a real feeling of harmony coming into an actual dining room.
43:00This now is a family home.
43:03And at the rear of the house,
43:04what was the only living room is now a multifunctional modern space
43:08with a sofa bed so Tracy can still sleep downstairs
43:10until the house is sold.
43:12Oh, you've nailed it.
43:15Comfy, snug, office space.
43:17I can absolutely see a family in here.
43:20As much as it hurts me to say this, you've smashed it.
43:24I want to find out what Tracy thinks of it all.
43:25Yep.
43:28So, my sister is excited with this property's potential
43:32and I'm confident we'll finally get some buyers through the door.
43:37It's just...
43:38Oh, I can't believe this is my house.
43:40I could not be happier, honestly.
43:43I'm overwhelmed.
43:44Well, we all love it, but it's not about us.
43:47Oh, it's...
43:48Oh, yes.
43:49You know what's coming, Tracy, don't you?
43:50Oh, I can't wait.
43:51Is it the same people?
43:52The same people.
43:53The same people have come around again
43:55and they've looked at the house as it is now.
43:58Are you ready?
43:59Can't wait.
44:02Well, there's no more spots, which is amazing.
44:04No toadstool clown house.
44:06And it looks a lot cleaner and a lot fresher.
44:08A definite yes for this room.
44:11As a buyer, I could see myself sitting in here.
44:17Wow.
44:18It's fantastic.
44:20And the presentation is absolutely wonderful.
44:24Oh, my goodness.
44:25What a complete transformation.
44:27Open plan.
44:28I love that this is now a dining room.
44:30It looks fresh.
44:32It looks inviting.
44:34It's really nice to have two downstairs living spaces.
44:36I'd move in there now.
44:38Yeah.
44:39Good.
44:39You can.
44:41That is what you want to hear, isn't it?
44:43Wow.
44:44I can't believe that she said that.
44:45We want people to actually envision themselves here.
44:48Yeah.
44:49The last couple of years has been difficult.
44:50It has been the worst of two years in my life.
44:52Yeah.
44:53So, what does it mean to you now that it's all finished?
44:56It means now that I can get on with my next chapter.
44:59And that means so much to me.
45:02Because I now know that I am going to sell this.
45:05Right.
45:05And that means now I can start planning all the things, you know, that I want to do.
45:11And that's such a big thing for me.
45:14If we've been able to help you move on now, for us, that's all that we want, really.
45:19I think we might be able to achieve that now.
45:21I think so.
45:22Please let us know.
45:23Keep in touch.
45:23Yes.
45:24And we wish you the very best of luck.
45:26Thank you so much for everything you've done.
45:28No worries.
45:29You're very welcome.
45:30It was a titanic task to transform Tracey's house, but I'm hopeful the changes will help
45:37this two-time cancer survivor sell her home and start the next chapter in her life.
45:47Two months later, Eric and Tatiana are far more positive about finally selling and are
45:53enjoying her trip of a lifetime.
45:55Next time, we're in South Wales, tackling an empty, dated house looking soulless and sad.
46:04That's a man's house, this is, isn't it?
46:06It is a bit, yeah.
46:07And a home that's a chaos of colour with mountains of mess.
46:11The island, the zoo, and the 15 million pieces of furniture, it's too much.
46:15It's our job to get them sold.
46:17Let's get this bad boy up.
46:19And it's vital that we do.
46:21Now we have to get them credit cards paid off.
46:25Well, with the opening of the Yorkshire shop just days away, the gang get cracking on
46:32with a cracking window display.
46:33The Victorian restoration continues.
46:35Stream or watch Friday night at 8.
46:37Next tonight, though, a gripping new documentary about the pursuit of a mystery man selling lethal
46:41poison.
46:42And it turns global in Poisoned.
46:44Killer in the Post.
46:45For more information like you have the focus on어ner.
46:57It while I'm going to be awesome.
46:58The victim of a seasons conspiracy theorist might call me one of the first things that I
47:00can never get involved with.
47:02But I'm having a headed choice.
47:03I'll be happy to see you next time.
47:04After a season of making the mistake of a mystery man sellingmesi God Yep
47:08to be able to win the choice.
