01:00You don't really want to go, do you?
01:08You kidding?
01:09It's the last thing I want to do.
01:11But I caught the overnight.
01:14Lousy shifts come with the job.
01:19You don't want to fool around without it's loaded.
01:22I know.
01:22Hey, Steve.
01:29Somebody's waiting on you so long.
01:33Sorry I'm late.
01:34That's okay.
01:35I just got here myself.
01:39Missed you today.
01:40I missed you, too.
01:45I missed you.
01:56I missed you.
01:58I missed you.
02:31Okay, fresh roasted beans in the grinder.
02:45Do not overfill.
02:51Okay, press espresso grinder.
03:01After placing cover on grinder.
03:04Morning, Dad.
03:05Morning.
03:07How's the new coffee machine working out?
03:09It's coming along.
03:10Good. I could use a cob.
03:12You just give me a minute here and I will have this machine grinding, blending, steaming and frogging.
03:17Not all at once, I hope.
03:19You were out late again last night.
03:21Sitting up again, were we?
03:23No, just curious.
03:25Another date with Lynn?
03:26Mm-hmm.
03:27You don't have to tell me about it if you're no one to.
03:29Dad, there's not much to tell. We've only been out in a few days.
03:32Uh-huh.
03:33All right, it's going well. It's just too soon to tell.
03:36I'm glad it's going well and it's still too soon to tell me.
03:39What'd I do?
03:40It's okay. It's okay.
03:41It's just a little valve here that shouldn't be open.
03:45So you want to meet her?
03:47Well, if you want me to.
03:48Okay. We'll do it soon. We'll go to dinner.
03:50Okay. I'm ready.
03:52Name your pleasure.
03:53Well, just a regular cup of whatever you got.
03:55I don't think it does regular. That's for something else.
03:58Oh, okay. How about a double-double decaf non-fat grand latte hold the froth?
04:04Coming up.
04:05Dad, I'm kidding.
04:06You don't think I can do it? This baby does everything.
04:10Dad, you know, I think I'll have a cup of tea.
04:14Here. Thanks.
04:22Sloan here.
04:26Tom Ames.
04:29He did.
04:32Where?
04:34All right. I'm on my way.
04:39What was it?
04:41Uniform officer from our precinct.
04:43He's been found dead.
04:51What do you got?
04:52Ames was a shift no-shows.
04:54Partner came looking for him and found this.
04:57Gun in his hand.
04:58Single shot to the head.
05:00No sign of forced entry.
05:01No struggle.
05:02Far as we can tell, self-inflicted.
05:04Suicide?
05:05Unless homicide says otherwise.
05:07CSU been called?
05:08Coming in the door.
05:11Weird, isn't it?
05:12Last week, a guy from the 27th ate his gun.
05:15Now Ames.
05:17I knew Tom.
05:19This just doesn't seem like him.
05:20Excuse me.
05:22Uh, size seven?
05:37I wish.
05:39Eight and a half.
05:46What's up, Dad?
05:47Oh, find anything?
05:49Looks like he had company.
05:51A blonde.
05:52He found blonde hairs on a pillow.
05:54Huh.
05:55Well, that's hardly a match for Ames.
05:58He also found blonde hairs on this.
06:00Nice perfume.
06:05Was Ames seeing anybody?
06:06Hanover checked with his partner.
06:08As far as he knew, Ames hadn't had a date in months.
06:10So it could be anybody.
06:12Anybody that's blonde.
06:13And wears a size six and a half shoe.
06:16Well, maybe seven.
06:18Don't tell me she left a glass slipper behind.
06:19Not quite.
06:20Look at this bath, man.
06:21Hey, Norman.
06:27Where's Amanda?
06:28I got a stack of lab samples.
06:29Hawaii.
06:30Hawaii?
06:31Amanda's in Hawaii.
06:32Colin was given a three-day leave,
06:34so I gave Amanda a three-day leave as well.
06:36You actually let her go?
06:37Just like that?
06:38You know, you think of me as nothing more than a heartless bureaucrat,
06:41don't you, Dr. Travis?
06:42Well, I'll have you know that my staff's well-being
06:44is very important to me.
06:46Amanda needed to be with her husband.
06:47I'm sure.
06:48I just can't believe you let her go like that.
06:50I insisted on it.
06:51Hey, I don't suppose you'd insist that I go to Hawaii, too.
06:54Norman Briggs, extension 125.
06:56Excuse me, I have a phone call.
06:57Norman Briggs, extension 125.
06:59Just thought I'd ask.
07:01Here you go, Mr. Briggs.
07:02Thank you, Rosie.
07:03Norman Briggs.
07:06The Sapper's date?
07:09That's a big honor.
07:11And the hospital, too?
07:15Surprise?
07:16Absolutely.
07:18Mum's the word.
07:18I'll make certain.
07:20Yes.
07:20Oh, and put me down for an entire table.
07:23Yes.
07:26The Saperstein Award has finally come to community general.
07:35Hey, Dr. Sloan.
07:36Where's Mrs. Martinez?
07:38Oh, the gastritis is healing very nicely.
07:40Appetite's back, eating normally.
07:41Hey, our food?
07:43You call that normal?
07:44Well, that's not all she likes it.
07:45Hey, so what's the latest on that cop that died last night?
07:52Oh, right now is down as a suicide.
07:54Uh-huh.
07:55There it is.
07:57The tone.
07:58Tone?
07:58The tone.
07:59I think there's something more to this tone.
08:02What's bothering you?
08:03Well, I have just a feeling, but something doesn't fit.
08:06The officer who was killed took a shower just before he shot himself.
08:10He was still wet when they found him.
08:13Well, why bother?
08:14I mean, especially if you're just gonna...
08:15Exactly.
08:17You know, Steve said there was a similar incident last week over in the 27th precinct.
08:21Officer named Tony St. James.
08:23You think there's a connection?
08:25Well, I don't know, but I think we ought to find out.
08:28Are you scheduled for surgery now?
08:30No.
08:31Have barbecued ribs for lunch.
08:32Well, you didn't talk to the partner, the first cop on the scene.
08:40I talked to the primary P.I. officer, and I got an advance copy of the prelim report.
08:45So, in other words, you got what they wanted you to have.
08:50I got what they wanted me to have.
08:52Look, you want some advice.
08:53No, of course you don't.
08:54But you're gonna get it anyway.
08:58Coming up.
08:59They're all liars.
09:01Even the nice ones.
09:03Do your own digging, you'll be fine.
09:05You listen to them, honey, you'll be out in your butt in less than a week.
09:08Oh, jeez, here comes Barron's.
09:10I'm gonna finish my drink elsewhere.
09:12Be nice to him, huh?
09:13You'll need him.
09:15You ready?
09:15Hey, Barron's.
09:16Introduce me to your new friend.
09:19What do I look like, huh?
09:20Your dating service?
09:24Frank Barron's.
09:26Homicide.
09:26Lynn Conklin.
09:28Ocean Tribune.
09:29Heard the name.
09:29Penny's out of here, and you get the beat all to yourself.
09:33Well, not till next week.
09:35Better drink up.
09:38Hey, Steve.
09:39Yeah, maybe some other time.
09:41Nice meeting you.
09:42What's the hurry?
09:42I thought maybe I could buy you a beer.
09:44Sorry.
09:44Got other plans.
09:48Sloan?
09:49You sound like you don't like him.
09:52Nah, he's okay.
09:55And obviously, very lucky.
10:01No pressure.
10:03But if your plans change.
10:11Hi there.
10:12Hi.
10:12All right.
10:18Guess this isn't the best place to do this.
10:22I could think of a better place.
10:25What about dinner?
10:28Suddenly, I'm not very hungry.
10:32Sloan.
10:33You're a romantic.
10:53That obvious?
10:54That obvious.
10:57Only one thing missing.
10:59Tony Bennett.
11:00Oh, I have the whole collection on vinyl.
11:03I knew it.
11:09You have a nice place.
11:12Feels like you.
11:15Comfortable.
11:18So it's yours.
11:20No, it's not very homey.
11:23You know, I move around so much,
11:24I never really get a chance to settle in.
11:28You move a lot.
11:30A few times.
11:39But I like moving.
11:41Suits me.
11:43New people, new places.
11:46I feel trapped if I'm in one place too long.
11:49Is that why you left San Diego?
11:51I don't know.
11:52I don't know.
11:53Something like that?
11:56So you and your dad actually live here together?
11:59Uh, well, not actually together.
12:02He has the upstairs unit.
12:05Is he up there now?
12:07I mean, I just thought if you were, I could meet him.
12:10Believe me, I want you to meet him.
12:11But, uh, even if he was up there now is not when I'd want to introduce you.
12:15Are you going to get that?
12:31No.
12:32Steve!
12:34Hey, Steve.
12:36Hey, sorry.
12:37Jesse, what are you doing here?
12:40I'm sorry.
12:41Hello.
12:43Your dad wanted me to come down here and get you.
12:46Those autopsy reports are in, and I thought you might want to take a look at them.
12:49Couldn't it wait?
12:51Maybe I should go.
12:52No, you don't have to.
12:54No.
12:54I might as well.
12:55I've got some things to do before work.
12:56Come on.
12:56Hey, uh, I'll be upstairs, sir, if you need me.
13:05It's your job.
13:06I understand.
13:07I'll quit.
13:08You're crazy.
13:09I've got to go.
13:10Yeah.
13:12All right.
13:15You didn't.
13:16Yeah.
13:16Well, you said to go get him.
13:18I didn't know he had somebody with him.
13:21What was she like?
13:22Well, let's just say I wouldn't be too happy if you guys interrupted me.
13:25All right.
13:29This had better be good.
13:30Sorry.
13:31Well, it's kind of important.
13:33We've been going over the autopsy reports on, uh, Ames and, uh, Stoney St. James.
13:37What, the suicide in the 2-7?
13:38Just a hunch we thought we'd go over him.
13:41Well, obviously, you found something.
13:43What we didn't find is what makes it interesting.
13:45Yeah.
13:46Okay.
13:47There was no powder residue on either firing hand, and there was no blood spatter on either firing hand.
13:53No indication of cadaveric clutching spasms, and no gunpowder smudging on or near the entry wounds.
14:00They didn't fire their guns.
14:02You get an A in forensic science.
14:04And if they didn't, it means they were murdered.
14:07I take it your plan's changed.
14:20You mind being the new plan?
14:21St. James, Ames, and now Barron's.
14:37You say there was no attempt to disguise it as a suicide.
14:40Well, then we don't know if this last was connected or not.
14:42No, there are way too many similarities.
14:45Each was killed with his own weapon in his own home after a sexual encounter.
14:49There was no sign of a struggle, no first entry.
14:52Double Latte says that the lab test will turn up blonde hairs.
14:55I think you'd win that bit.
14:57We got a cop killer on our hands.
15:00Serial cop killer?
15:02You know, I think there's somebody you ought to meet.
15:05All right.
15:05I'm on my way.
15:10As a group, serial killers are a very tricky thing.
15:15Each one has their own pattern, their own ritualistic behavior.
15:21I think you have a very interesting case here.
15:24You know that only 10% of these kinds of killers are women?
15:30Why is that?
15:31By and large, it's a male phenomenon based on APDs.
15:34Antisocial Personality Disorder.
15:37Yeah.
15:38Generally speaking, they're all sociopaths,
15:41even though they appear to be as normal as you and me.
15:44And that's what makes them so dangerous.
15:48Basically, the motivation for these killings come in four categories.
15:53The first is the pleasure seeker.
15:56These people, they kill for fun.
15:58They don't care who it is.
16:00This one seems to care very much who it is.
16:02So I understand.
16:03Maybe yours is what they call a visionary.
16:06They claim to hear a voice from God.
16:09And in their mind, they're working for a higher goal.
16:12Or maybe yours is a perjure.
16:15This group feels that it's helping by eliminating one element of society,
16:20one that they think is unacceptable.
16:22Like police officers.
16:23Authority figures are often targets.
16:26However, I think that your killer most closely fits the last category.
16:31That's the category of the controller.
16:33This person seeks to have power by controlling the victim.
16:38In your case, having sex before the crime is the act of control.
16:41Do you think we're looking for a control killer here?
16:43I wish it were that easy.
16:45There are, however, two factors that are common to just about all of them.
16:49One is they crave celebrity status for their killings.
16:54And the other is they don't seem to feel any guilt for what they've done,
16:58even after they've been caught.
16:59They don't realize what they're doing is wrong.
17:02That's because, in their mind, it isn't.
17:05You know, she changed her pattern on the last one.
17:09That's a bad indication.
17:10You mean because she didn't try and hide it as a suicide?
17:12The fact that she didn't try to cover up shows that she's getting bolder.
17:16Does that mean more dangerous?
17:18I think that her compulsion to kill is getting stronger.
17:22My guess is that she'll strike again and probably very soon.
17:29Come here.
17:34Four feet.
17:36Glass encased.
17:38Three shelves and recessed lighting.
17:40And you have those plans I drew up, right?
17:42Good.
17:43Dr. Travis, a moment of your time, please.
17:45I've taken you off rotation for Thursday night.
17:47You have?
17:48Yes.
17:49Wow.
17:50I've been trying to trade that night with everyone, even interns from county.
17:53You have?
17:54No, not really.
17:56Well, good.
17:57Yeah, I'll say.
17:58See, there's this girl.
17:59Her name is Molly.
18:00Oh, she's amazing.
18:01And I've been trying to get a date with her for, like, weeks.
18:03Finally, she says yes, but only on a Thursday.
18:05See, she's got class or something.
18:06Well, you hopped her into tux.
18:08It's just her first date.
18:09Well, you won't be going on the date.
18:11You'll be attending the saprocene benefit dinner.
18:14Now, why would you think that?
18:15Because I've already bought you a ticket.
18:17You'll be sitting with me and Dr. Sloan at our table.
18:20What about my date?
18:21Well, you could take her if you want.
18:23Are you kidding me?
18:25Either you go to the dinner, I'll put you back on rotation.
18:27Goodman Formalware.
18:29Tell them I sent you.
18:30Oh, excuse me.
18:33Doing some remodeling, Norman?
18:34No, why?
18:35Well, there's a carpenter there measuring the wall.
18:36Go away.
18:37You know, you have to keep your eye on everything.
18:40Oh, speaking of which, the saprocene benefit dinner is the day after tomorrow.
18:43I took the liberty of buying us all tickets.
18:45All of us?
18:46All of us.
18:47Oh, Norman, I hate those things, especially the saprocene.
18:50Some pompous doctor getting an award he doesn't deserve.
18:54It's not my kind of evening.
18:54Well, I hear the saprocene family made some changes.
18:57Maybe the dinner won't be so bad.
18:58Jello salad.
18:59Dried up chicken in a mystery sauce.
19:01Cold, rolls.
19:02I don't think so, Norman.
19:03And if he's not going, I'm not going.
19:04He's going.
19:06We're all going.
19:07Thursday night, Bel Air ballroom, 8 o'clock sharp.
19:10We'll have a wonderful time together, okay?
19:13Be there.
19:15Want to come with me to get a tux?
19:16I already have one, thank you.
19:17So does this mean that our killer is pregnant?
19:28I've isolated a synthetic element from each of the officer's clothing swatches and tested
19:33for similar reactions.
19:34And the perfumes match?
19:35Right down to the phenyl ethyl oxyacetyl hide.
19:38It's a synthetic rose fragrance.
19:40I knew that.
19:41Hi, guys.
19:44Hi.
19:44Got your message.
19:45What's up?
19:46Well, we've come up with a definite link between two of the crime scenes.
19:49Which two?
19:50Ames and Barron's.
19:51I noticed a distinctive perfume on the clothing of each of the victims.
19:55It was Ames' robe and Barron's shirt.
19:58Chemical analysis proves it's the same perfume.
20:01Unfortunately, the third victim's clothes had already been cleaned and boxed.
20:04Well, that's something.
20:06Well, we have considerably more than that.
20:09Jesse and I have been working on a kind of a profile of the killer.
20:11Great.
20:12Let's hear it.
20:13We have a Caucasian female, 5'5 to 5'9, between 110 and 130 pounds, shoulder-length brown
20:18hair, probably middle class, making around $25,000, $40,000 a year.
20:23How's that?
20:24It's, uh, remarkable.
20:26You don't mind if I ask a couple of questions, do you?
20:295'5 to 5'9?
20:31Just a moment.
20:36Angle of entry of the bullet.
20:38Uh-huh.
20:39And the bath mat imprint and the shoe size gave you the weight, right?
20:43That's very good.
20:44Well, then you lose me.
20:45Brown hair?
20:46Well, uh, bottled blonde, really.
20:49Be your best number 102.
20:51Uh-huh.
20:52Well, that doesn't exactly eliminate a lot of suspects in this town.
20:55Hardly any.
20:55Mm-hmm.
20:56Now, how'd you come up with the income?
20:57Well, there's the over-the-counter hair dye, for one thing.
21:00Yeah, either too poor or too cheap to go to a salon.
21:02And the perfume.
21:03It's called Adora.
21:04It's an inexpensive rip-off of Passion No. 7.
21:07You wouldn't happen to have an address on her, too, would you?
21:10No, I'm sorry.
21:11Our little profile's all we can do.
21:13The rest is up to you.
21:14Mm-hmm.
21:19Pool shark, too, huh?
21:21Steve.
21:22Thanks, Jack.
21:22I never figured you for an Irish cop.
21:36Beer for lunch?
21:37Oh, no.
21:38Actually, I'm, uh, here to talk to Dino,
21:40hoping he could help with the investigation.
21:43Anything new?
21:45I wish I could tell you.
21:47I know.
21:48I just thought maybe you might like to leak something.
21:50Like, maybe what your evidence is
21:53that connects the three killings.
21:56How'd you know it was three?
21:59Supposedly, that's, uh, confidential.
22:01I am a reporter, remember, and a good one.
22:04I have sources.
22:07All right, one last question, then I gotta go.
22:09Yeah.
22:09This source has, uh, no comment.
22:12Well, are we still on for dinner?
22:18You've got Barron's address?
22:20Yeah.
22:21I'm, I'm doing the story on him.
22:24I can't believe he's dead.
22:26You know, I, I just met him yesterday.
22:27Here, as a matter of fact.
22:31Steve, don't worry.
22:33He was the one doing the flirting.
22:34I wasn't.
22:36So, tonight?
22:38Yeah, I'm looking forward to it.
22:40Good.
22:41And this time, we'll remember to lock the door.
22:50See you.
22:51See you.
22:59Hey, Dino.
23:00Steve, what can I do you?
23:04Dino, you know these guys.
23:06It's Tom Ames.
23:08Frank Barron's.
23:10This other one, I don't know.
23:11I've seen him in here once, maybe twice.
23:13Tony St. James.
23:14He's with the 2-7.
23:15Dead?
23:16Mm-hmm.
23:17Dino, have you seen a woman around here, uh, 5'5 to 5'9, blonde, 110, maybe 130 pounds,
23:25talking to, uh, Barron's or Ames?
23:28Come on, Steve.
23:29That's half the woman that come in here.
23:31Even that girl you're seeing.
23:33Lynn?
23:34Sure.
23:34She and half the girls of L.A. match that description.
23:37I'm sorry.
23:38I, I can't help you.
23:39That's all right, Dino.
23:40Thanks.
24:10Hello?
24:25Hi.
24:25Hi, Steve.
24:26Busy?
24:27No, I'm just getting ready.
24:27Look, something's come up, and, uh, I've got to cancel.
24:30Okay.
24:31I'm really sorry.
24:32No, sure, I understand.
24:34We'll do something tomorrow, okay?
24:35Yeah.
24:36I'll see you tomorrow.
24:37Okay.
24:38Bye-bye.
24:40Bye-bye.
25:10I'll tell you, son.
25:29He's not in.
25:31I'm sorry.
25:31I didn't mean to startle you.
25:33No, I just didn't expect to see anyone come from up there.
25:36You must be Lynn.
25:37Yes.
25:38He was right.
25:38You're very pretty.
25:40You're his father.
25:41That I am.
25:42Mark Sloan.
25:43He told me you two were sharing the beach house.
25:44Yeah.
25:45Listen, you could come upstairs and wait if you like.
25:47Oh, no.
25:48No, no, I can't.
25:49Um, but is he okay?
25:52Well, I, as far as I know, should I be worried about something?
25:55Well, he's just been working so hard on this investigation.
25:58Oh, yeah.
25:59He was up half the night on case files.
26:02Did he find anything?
26:03Don't know.
26:05Look, you sure you don't want to wait?
26:06He's probably just out for a jog somewhere.
26:08Oh, you know, I'm already late for a meeting.
26:09But I'll stop by the precinct later.
26:11Okay.
26:12Nice to meet you.
26:13Nice to meet you.
26:13Nice to meet you.
26:37Lynn was here looking for you.
26:40She's worried.
26:43Now I think I'm getting worried.
26:47Did you get a good look at her, Dad?
26:49Yes, I did.
26:50Very attractive.
26:52Besides that, what else did you see?
26:55I don't follow.
26:585'9", 115, 120 pounds.
27:02Blonde.
27:04She fits the description.
27:06Well, so do a lot of other women.
27:07Well, you think Lynn was connected to those killings somehow?
27:14Four cops were killed in Santa Mira in 93.
27:19Four more were killed in San Diego last year.
27:22Same ammo, all unsolved.
27:26It's who recently moved here from San Diego
27:28and who works around cops every day.
27:31Lynn.
27:34What about Santa Mira?
27:36Do you know if she lived there?
27:37I don't know what to feel on this one, Dad.
27:44My heart's saying she couldn't possibly have anything to do with this.
27:47But my head, my instincts, I don't know which way to go.
27:56You know, I'll do whatever I can to help.
28:01I'm just going to have to deal with this myself.
28:05What are you going to do?
28:06Investigate my leads like a good cop
28:09and hope to hell they prove us not to her.
28:11I don't know which way to do what to do with this.
28:11I don't know who to do.
28:12I don't know.
28:33Hi.
28:34Hey.
28:35Hey.
28:36You got a minute?
28:37What would you have in mind?
28:39I need to ask you some questions.
28:41Oh, well, that is usually my line.
28:43Mind if I borrow it?
28:46Is this about your case?
28:48Mm-hmm.
28:50Sure.
29:00It was a shame about Frank.
29:02I'd just like him to get killed by a very dumb SOB.
29:05I'm really gonna miss him.
29:10So, what do you need?
29:13What can you tell me about Lynn Conklin?
29:17You think she's involved?
29:20Look, this is just between us for now, okay?
29:23Yeah, but when it's over, I get the exclusive?
29:25When I say so.
29:26All right.
29:27One big last bang before I go?
29:28I like it.
29:29So, what do you need to know?
29:32What do you know about her work in San Diego?
29:35Not much.
29:36Only that she used another name.
29:38Um, O-something.
29:39O-Hare, I think.
29:42Why?
29:43I thought she was running from an ex.
29:46What makes you think she was running?
29:48She's cagey, you know?
29:50Never reveals anything about herself and gets very tense if you ask her.
29:55What about her other jobs?
29:56She work anywhere else?
29:58She's been all over the place.
30:00I've seen clippings from Fresno, Santa Barbara, San Francisco.
30:05Do you think she was a travel correspondent with a resume like that?
30:10What about Santa Mira?
30:12Yeah, but not for work.
30:15No, she went to college there.
30:18What?
30:19Go ahead.
30:20You tell them.
30:21Uh, Norma, we've been discussing that dinner tomorrow night.
30:25This should be quite an event.
30:26What?
30:27I, I, we, I've been, we, uh...
30:29As in either of us.
30:30Norman, we don't wanna go.
30:33What are you saying?
30:35I think what we're saying is that we don't wanna go.
30:37What are you saying?
30:38I think what we're saying is that we don't wanna go.
30:39Well, you have to.
30:40That's all there is to it.
30:41You just have to keep going.
30:42OK.
30:43Good.
30:44Good.
30:45Some.
30:46I've never won.
30:47You've never won't.
30:48You just have to go.
30:49Well, I've never done a wedding.
30:50No, I'm not saying anything.
30:51No, he's, he's never going.
30:52I've never gotten a wedding.
30:53You're going to get a wedding.
30:54You're going to a wedding.
30:55Right?
30:56I'm not saying everything you've got to go.
30:58That's all there is to it. You just have to attend.
31:01Norman, you know how I hate those things.
31:03And do you think I like them?
31:05I have to go to dozens a year. You just have to go to this one.
31:07What? No, I don't.
31:09Oh, yes, you do.
31:10Look, Norman, next year, huh?
31:13I'm with him.
31:14No, next year won't do.
31:16If it's money, I gave a donation.
31:18Do you realize how prestigious the Saperstein Award is?
31:21What it means to the doctor who gets in and for the hospital that he's associated with?
31:24Well, of course I am, but what does that have to do with me?
31:28You're getting it.
31:30Are you happy now?
31:32I wasn't supposed to say anything.
31:34I'm getting a Saperstein.
31:36Congratulations. What are you getting it for?
31:39For his outstanding lifetime body of work,
31:41greatly furthering the discipline of internal medicine.
31:44Wow.
31:45That's quite an honor. I don't know what to say.
31:48Well, since it's tomorrow night, you should have plenty of time to think about it.
31:52Ruined.
31:54Every time I try to pull off a surprise, it gets ruined.
31:58Well, at least you could try to look surprised.
32:01Ruined.
32:03Ruined.
32:05I think that worked pretty well.
32:07Yeah.
32:08The Saperstein.
32:08Bye.
32:20Bye-bye.
32:25Bye-bye.
32:31Bye.
32:36Bye-bye.
32:37Lyd, it's Steve. Are you here?
32:57Lyd?
33:07Lyd?
33:37Lyd?
34:07Lyd?
34:37Lyd?
34:41Lyd?
34:45Lyd?
34:47Lyd?
34:51Lyd?
34:53Lyd?
34:55Like it, Steve?
35:24It's one of my favorites.
35:27Don't just turn around.
35:35I only wear it on special occasions.
35:38Reminds me of that night.
35:41You know what I'm talking about, don't you, Steve?
35:47Come on. Let's go for a little drive.
35:50Move.
35:52Move, or I will just shoot you right here.
35:55It's your choice.
36:01You know, I wasn't even sure you were going to be one of the four.
36:04But now...
36:10you've really left me no choice.
36:12It's your choice.
36:13It's your choice.
36:16Ugh!
36:21Ugh!
36:22Oh, my God.
36:52Oh, my God.
37:22Are you by chance heading into town?
37:29No, I'm not.
37:31Okay, sorry if I bothered you.
37:52Oh, my God.
38:22Well, it didn't, except for that surface wound there.
38:26When you went through that glass, you somehow took a hard blow to the occipital lobe, caused some swelling in there, and it's impairing your vision.
38:33Sounds bad.
38:34No, it isn't.
38:35Could have been a lot worse.
38:36Cascans showed absolutely negative hemorrhaging, so the insult couldn't have been too traumatic.
38:42You wouldn't be saying that if this was your head.
38:45I've given you some cortical steroids.
38:47Should help take the swelling down.
38:49Then I'll be able to see?
38:50Well, it'll take a few days, but you'll recover.
38:52Can I go home?
38:54You feel up to it?
38:55I'd rather be there.
38:57Okay.
39:01Hi, Jess.
39:03Something wrong?
39:04I, uh, just got a message through the front desk for Steve.
39:11Um, there was an accident, and, uh, they found Lynn dead.
39:17What happened?
39:23Well, her car smashed up on an embankment on PCH, and, um, there was a big fire.
39:30The coroner just made the preliminary ID about 20 minutes ago.
39:33Give us a second, Jess.
39:35Yeah.
39:41You want to talk about her?
39:43What's the talk about?
39:44She's dead.
39:49Just like St. James, Ames, and Barron's.
39:52You cared for her, Steve?
39:55Dad, I didn't even know her.
39:58Well, you did know what happened to her when she was a kid.
40:02And apparently, having those officers acquitted was too much for her.
40:06Doesn't make it right.
40:07No.
40:08Maybe it helps explain the...
40:10why.
40:14I just want to put it behind me, okay?
40:19Okay.
40:22Take me home, Dad.
40:24Yeah.
40:25I'll take the car.
40:25Okay.
40:26She looks good, doesn't she?
40:39Very nice, Norman.
40:41She'll look even better with your warden there.
40:50Norman, look, an awful lot has been going on lately.
40:55I was just wondering, would you, would you mind accepting for me?
41:00You mean you won't be there for the Saperstein?
41:02Well, if it's all the same to you.
41:08Dad, I'm really glad you're going to this.
41:10Believe me, I wouldn't, but I had all of Norman's whining and crying.
41:13I could stand.
41:14This is your big night out.
41:16Now, don't worry about me.
41:16I'll be fine.
41:17Are you sure you don't want to come?
41:19Positive.
41:20Well, you've been through a lot, Steve.
41:22Which is exactly why I'd need to spend some time alone.
41:25You'd be very impressed with how sharp your old man looks.
41:28Well, why don't you take me a picture?
41:29I'd like to see it.
41:30I don't look that sharp.
41:32Uh, I'd better get going.
41:33I'm going to be late.
41:33Last chance.
41:34No, thank you.
41:35Now, you call me if you need anything.
41:36I will.
41:37Now, go get your ward.
41:38All right.
41:39Ladies and gentlemen, an honor like this leaves me speechless.
41:43I would like to thank you all for a while.
41:51You'll watch where you're going, Steve.
42:13All right.
42:21Dad?
42:51Is anybody there?
43:21You know it's me, don't you, Steve?
43:42I've come for you.
43:51Poor baby.
43:55Let me help you out.
44:05What's the matter?
44:06Aren't you glad I came back?
44:08What do you want, Lynn?
44:10To finish this.
44:12It's time it all ended.
44:16You were different, Steve.
44:18Everything with you was different, not like with the others.
44:21Like the cops in San Diego and Santa Mira?
44:24They're all the same, everywhere.
44:29Except you.
44:36I'm glad you found out.
44:39I'm tired, Steve.
44:41I'm so tired.
44:44And now that it's over, we can be together.
44:48I know now that's why you didn't die back at my house.
44:51Because we're supposed to die together.
44:58I wasn't always like this.
45:02Those cops did this to me, those men.
45:05They laughed.
45:06They laughed.
45:07They laughed.
45:09They laughed.
45:11But they're not laughing anymore.
45:17I wouldn't have laughed at you, Lynn.
45:19I would have stopped them.
45:22I know.
45:25That's what makes you so special.
45:27Why are you making this so hard?
45:45We're meant to be together.
45:57I didn't want it to be like this.
45:59Lynn, no!
46:01Come on, Dad.
46:12You're going to blame me with that thing.
46:14Well, your eyesight's back.
46:16Looks like 100%.
46:17That doesn't mean I'm not still worried about you.
46:19I'm going to be all right.
46:21Are you?
46:22I'm working on it.
46:26I just keep thinking if I'd known, I could have gotten her help.
46:29I could have done something for her.
46:29Didn't go that way, Steve.
46:58You know, I feel the same way, Dad.
47:04Hungry? Yeah.
47:05Oh, you all right? Just kidding.
47:07You clown.
47:28Viacom.
