Bradford City Transfer Latest: Bantams had plan in place for early recruitment

00:00Now for Bradford City, it's obviously an incredibly interesting campaign on the horizon.

00:06They rejoin League One with promotion from League Two,

00:10obviously coming into that sort of top section and achieving promotion is a fantastic goal for them.

00:17They had some real fantastic results and good runs,

00:21especially in that mid-part, core part of the season,

00:25which was incredibly important for their promotion push.

00:28In terms of Bradford and where they are with the transfers,

00:32Dan, our correspondent over in Yorkshire.

00:35Dan, what's your thoughts on where they are, where they need to be in terms of transfers moving forward this summer?

00:41Is it a big summer? Is it things they need to just twinge and keep the momentum going throughout the camp?

00:47Or do they need a bit of a reset, a bit of a stronger side to compete in League One

00:52and make sure they are avoiding the drops?

00:54So just have a look at where they are, what their ambitions are as well.

00:58Because, you know, achieving promotion the way they did, they are going to have some momentum.

01:04But also you have to look at the strength again in League One.

01:08Yes, it's probably not got the same investment of last year with the likes of Birmingham City and Wrexham.

01:14But still, you've got some real big hitters in there who are going to want to make a massive impact.

01:19By the likes of Wigan, Reading, Stockport being in and around there, Cardiff City obviously coming down as well, Wimbledon.

01:27These are teams that are going to want to make a big impact next season.

01:31So how do Bristol Rovers go about it?

01:34Sorry, how do Bradford City go about it in terms of their transfers and where they want to be?

01:38Well, Charles, for Bradford City at the moment, following what was a chaotic start to the transfer window,

01:46things have settled down a bit.

01:48Certainly, Graeme Alexander was very pleased to get lots of players in early

01:52and get them all bedded into the squad, ready for pre-season, of course, which is underway now.

01:57They've played their first game, which was a victory away against FC United of Manchester.

02:01But I think just for Bradford City as a whole, it's a really positive time at the moment.

02:07Transfers, yes, have calmed down and settled down in the last few days,

02:09but ultimately they've had a really good summer so far.

02:12They've brought in a whole host of new names.

02:15I think Graeme Alexander said there was about five or six new players who were in the door

02:19by the time everyone was coming back to pre-season.

02:21So there's a lot of new faces at the training ground.

02:24But let's be honest, it's probably the best way to get them to bed in and gel in

02:27because if they're coming in drips and drabs all the way through,

02:31it's going to be more difficult for them to get used to the way things are going

02:34where already other players have been enjoying the training

02:37and ultimately getting used to the way that Graeme Alexander wants them to play.

02:42So by having them all come in really early, you're creating a bit more perhaps cohesion.

02:46So what's next for Bradford?

02:48Well, that's the question.

02:50Do they need any more players?

02:51Well, you can imagine their business probably isn't quite finished yet,

02:55but I'd say it's probably mostly done.

02:57And as I say, I think they wanted to get things done before pre-season for the most part.

03:02At least, in fact, Graeme Alexander made very clear that Bradford City had a plan.

03:07They had one last summer in terms of how they wanted to get out of League 2

03:09and they've got one this summer and they've enacted it so far during the transfer window

03:14to bring in as many players as they could and players who they were targeting as well.

03:18They not just sort of brought players in for the sake of it,

03:20even though perhaps to the untrained eye it might look like that

03:22because they've ultimately brought in a lot of players.

03:25They've all been players they've wanted that will add depth to their squad

03:28but also ultimately quality to their squad.

03:31And I think that's really important for them.

03:33So business perhaps coming to an end soon enough

03:36as we head into mid-July with August just around the corner now.

03:40But I wouldn't be surprised to see the odd one more or two more

03:44come into the squad before the start of the season.

03:47You know, sometimes deals are there to be done for clubs

03:49and ultimately if the price is good and the price is right

03:52and they think it's a deal worth doing,

03:55I think Bradford will indeed shake hands on maybe one or two more

04:00before the window slams shut at the end of August, start of September.

04:03So ultimately things looking good for Bradford City at the moment.

04:06I think their supporters, crucially, will be happy with the summer they've had.

04:10They've brought in, as I say, a whole host of players

04:12who will add quality and depth to their squad.

04:15And then you have to then look as to what is actually the aim next season.

04:18Is it just survival?

04:19Well, you'd imagine probably not given the amount of players they've brought in.

04:22I think they want to at least push up to mid-table in the league

04:25where the promotion from League One to the championship is on the cards right now.

04:29Perhaps it's perhaps a bit of a push

04:31but ultimately they're doing all they can to be at least a competitive side in League One

04:37not just a team scrounging around towards the bottom

04:40and scraping to survive in the division.
