00:00Can I ask you to take your seat?
00:01Unsurprisingly, the European Parliament has rejected the motion of censure against the European Commission.
00:07The party is in the centre of the political spectrum, united on Thursday in favour of Ursula von der Leyen
00:13in the face of the radical right and the far right.
00:17The MEP who tabled the motion of censure was nonetheless pleased with the result.
00:22360 votes in favour of von der Leyen, 175 votes against her.
00:27This is less than the votes she got last summer in order to get the second mandate.
00:35But the European People's Party, EPP, Ursula von der Leyen's political family,
00:40also responded with figures and stressed that the Eurosceptic opposition was in decline.
00:46The initiators of the motion of censure failed.
00:50They had even less votes. They had 100 less votes than last year.
00:55However, these differences can be explained by the decision of more than 160 MEPs not to take part in the vote.
01:02The debates that preceded it at the beginning of the week exposed the discontent of the pro-European coalition
01:09that supports the president of the Commission.
01:11What we have seen also this week is that even among the so-called von der Leyen coalition,
01:16there is quite some criticism, there is discontent.
01:21And I would say that the progressive side, Social Democrats, Liberals and us Greens,
01:25we feel the frustration that the Conservatives, that the EPP time and again goes into alliance,
01:33votes together with the extreme right whenever it suits them
01:36and then wants us to balance out the damage that they create.
01:41And this, I think, we showed very clearly this week that we're not going to stand for that any longer.
01:47Although Osela von der Leyen won this round,
01:50the president of the European Commission did not emerge stronger.
01:54She will have to heal the wounds open up in the week, leading up to the motion of censure.
