00:00The European Commission survived the no-confidence vote that has just been voted here in the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
00:08175 members of the Parliament voted in favour of the motion of censure, while 360 voted against and 18 abstained.
00:19The motion of censure was well below the votes needed, the threshold needed to be successful,
00:26which was two-thirds of the votes cast, representing at least the majority of the total number of the MEPs.
00:36So, 360 votes were needed to topple the Commission, but most of the political groups of the European Parliament
00:45backed the Commission by rejecting this motion of censure.
00:49Of course, the European People's Party voted unanimously against, but also the Socialists and Democrats renewed Europe,
00:57and the Greens voted against, even with some abstentions.
01:02The far-right groups, Patriots for Europe and the Europe of Sovereign Nations,
01:07as well as a large part of the European Conservatives and Reformists and some delegations of the left,
01:13voted against the Commission, so in favour of the motion of censure.
01:17So, for the moment, Ursula von der Leyen, which was not present in the hemicycle during the vote, is safe,
01:24but the vote and the debate previous to the vote has left some doubts about the support for her agenda here in the Parliament.

01:36European leaders on Thursday urged private businesses and equity to invest in rebuilding Ukraine now,
01:46as they opened an annual recovery conference on Ukraine in Italy.
01:50Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Milani and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy kicked off the proceedings in Rome
01:57with announcements of a new equity fund and public-private partnerships.
02:02According to Milani, the conference is expected to finalise individual deals of guarantees and grants
02:09to unlock more than 10 billion euros in investments.
02:13The two-day conference, which begins today in Rome, which has been organised both by Italy and Ukraine,
02:20is the fourth Ukraine's recovery conference.
02:24The aim of the summit is to continue the global push for investment to support Ukraine's reconstruction
02:30three years since Russia's full-scale war of aggression began.
02:34The conference includes a series of high-level political events and panel discussions
02:40on how business, policy, international cooperation can contribute to a sustainable recovery.
02:46According to the World Bank, the recovery and reconstruction will cost $524 billion over the next 10 years.
02:55Around 3,500 people are taking part in the event.
02:58A significant number of world leaders are also attending,
03:02including besides Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Milani, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy,
03:06EU Commission President von der Leyen, German Chancellor Metz.
03:09The US is represented by its convoy for Russia and Ukraine, Kellogg.
03:14Now, more than 2,000 companies are also joining the conference,
03:19including representatives from civil society.
03:21Now, the timing of the conference is extremely crucial as the fighting continues in Ukraine
03:27and a diplomatic effort to end the conflict remained stalled.
03:32And Ukraine faces the dual challenge of rebuilding its infrastructure
03:37while implementing reforms aligned with EU values on its path toward European Union accession.

03:47At least two people were killed on Thursday and 16 others injured after Russia attacked Kyiv,
03:58the Ukrainian capital, with another mass missile and drone attack.
04:03According to Ukrainian officials, the overnight attack reportedly caused fires across the city
04:08and came a day after the heaviest aerial attack of the three-year war so far.
04:14Rescue workers worked on Thursday at a residential district in Kyiv
04:18after falling debris caused a fire on the top floor of an apartment building,
04:24according to Ukrainian officials.
04:26Russia had fired more than 700 attack and decoy drones at Ukraine,
04:31topping previous nightly barrages for the third time in two weeks.
04:36Many residents in the Ukrainian capital sought refuge in underground metro stations.
04:42The attack comes as the Trump administration resumed sending some weapons to Ukraine.
04:48The Pentagon had previously directed that weapons shipments be paused.
04:53Russia's military has not commented on the reported latest attack.
04:57The UK and France are reportedly in talks to announce a one-in-one-out migration deal,
05:08which would see the UK taking in some asylum seekers while sending others back to France.
05:13French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer are discussing details
05:18of how to clamp down on illegal immigration across the channel, which both call a priority.
05:23The UK has previously pressured France to change its approach and laws,
05:29including giving police officers more power to arrest migrants afloat.
05:33The details of the agreement, which could reportedly involve the UK giving France funding to cover the costs
05:57of boats, police officers and drones, are still unclear.
06:01The deal's announcement is set to take place at the end of the first three-day state visit
06:05by an EU head of state since Brexit.
06:07Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijan President Ilyam Aliyev are meeting this Thursday in Abu Dhabi,
06:18the United Arab Emirates, to discuss next steps in finalising the peace agreements their offices have confirmed.
06:26This is the first formal bilateral meeting of the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan
06:31since they agreed on the draft text of a peace deal following almost four decades of conflict.
06:40This is particularly important because it's a bilateral summit.
06:46With Russia overwhelmed by its failed invasion of Ukraine,
06:50this is very much at the exclusion of Russia.
06:55In September 2023, Azerbaijan reclaimed full control of the Karabakh region after a lightning military campaign
07:04following decades-long conflict with Armenia, in which Russia was a central actor.
07:13Azerbaijan's launch of a war in 2020 and its military seizure of Nagorno-Karabakh
07:20has exposed the emptiness of a security reliance on Russia.
07:26But I would also say Armenia and Azerbaijan ironically share a same pursuit,
07:33a policy to defy Moscow, pushing back and pushing out Russia from the South Caucasus.
07:42A significant lesson learned from the Ukrainian battlefield
07:46is the surprising weakness and incompetence of the Russian armed forces.
07:51That's an important lesson for all of the countries in the near abroad, Russia's neighbours.
07:58Analysts believe Moscow losing its influence in the region
08:02will leave a dangerous vacuum of power which Turkey is seeking to regain.
08:07The European Parliament approved one of the toughest documents in the history of its enlargement.
08:21It's the Progress Report on Georgia's accession process to the bloc.
08:25With 490 votes in favour and 147 against,
08:30MEPs condemned what they call the backsliding of the rule of law
08:34and the growing Russian influence on the ruling party, Georgian Dream.
08:39Euronews spoke to one of the main drafters of the report.
08:43We see rigged elections last year in the parliamentary elections
08:46and since then we've seen ever more brutal clampdowns and crackdowns on peaceful protesters.
08:52So what this report clearly shows is that the Georgian Dream government
08:57seems to be playing out the Russian playbook of disinformation, manipulation and intimidation
09:03and that is really not going towards the membership of the European Union.
09:08The Parliament has repeatedly denounced what they call electoral fraud
09:12in last October's legislative elections against the opposition party,
09:16composed of pro-European forces.
09:19The EU and Council of Europe have repeatedly condemned the arrest of dozens,
09:24including members of the Georgian opposition, journalists and activists in recent months.
09:29A return to the EU pass could only be considered if the Georgian authorities take credible steps
09:37to reverse democratic backsliding, meaning stopping the violence against citizens,
09:43releasing all those unjustly detained, suspending repressive laws
09:48and engaging in a meaningful dialogue with civil society.
09:53Nevertheless, the Georgian government claims its full commitment to the EU accession process,
09:58which was reiterated to Euronews last May.
10:02You know, there are many speculations about our accession path,
10:05but there is no real shift in our policy.
10:08We have the only policy, which is the EU integration agenda.
10:12That's formally adopted by the government.
10:16Growing concerns and disagreements between the EU and the Georgian government
10:20prompted the two sides to freeze the enlargement process,
10:24only a few months after Georgia received candidate status for EU membership.
10:31A lot of hate.
10:33U.S. President Donald Trump said that he would impose 50% tariffs on Brazilian imports,
10:40citing a witch-hunt trial against former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.
10:46Bolsonaro is accused of trying to overturn his 2022 election defeat.
10:51He faces charges including involvement in an armed criminal organization
10:55and attempting to undermine Brazil's democratic order.
10:59In a letter addressed to current President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva,
11:04Trump said the trial shouldn't be happening and called for it to end immediately.
11:09Lula responded that the 50% tariffs would trigger Brazil's economic reciprocity law,
11:15potentially suspending trade, investment and intellectual property agreements with the U.S.
11:20Lula also noted that the U.S. has maintained a trade surplus of more than $410 billion with Brazil
11:28over the past 15 years.
11:31Bolsonaro has not commented on Trump's announcement,
11:34but he has previously said he is the victim of political persecution.
11:38He has been the victim of political persecution.
