00:00CNN reports at least 120 people have died and at least 170 others are still missing in the catastrophic flooding across Texas.
00:10Governor Greg Abbott says thousands of personnel have been deployed with over 20 state agencies responding to the crisis.
00:16President Trump is expected to visit Texas on Friday.
00:20It's been nearly a week since devastating floodwaters tore through Kirk County, Texas, but the response has been nonstop.
00:29In the small town of Hunt, the recovery effort has turned into a community-wide mission.
00:35Our Allie Reed is back live this morning from what many consider the beating heart of the operation.
00:40Allie, the sun is shining there for you this morning.
00:47Good morning, Ari and Bernie.
00:49Sun is bright this morning.
00:50That'll be important for recovery efforts continuing as search and rescue crews move throughout Kirk counties,
00:57but specifically here in Hunt, Texas this morning, just down the road, is Camp Mystic where we know so many young lives were lost.
01:06A number of families just in this area have lost their lives as well.
01:10And I want to paint a picture for you before I describe where I am right now.
01:15This is incredibly heavy what I'm about to explain to you.
01:21When you are walking through this area, you find little things from people's homes, whether that be baby shoes or something like a picture that I just found.
01:34I'm not going to turn the picture around because I want to protect this family's identity,
01:39but I will be holding on to this photo because I hope that this family has survived.
01:44I hope they are here, and I want little things like this to be able to get back to those families.
01:50But I'm not the only one who has found stuff like this.
01:53There are so many people here that have gone out of their way to make sure even the littlest things get back to the families and reunited with them.
02:03Okay, we can breathe for just a second here now that we've gone through that.
02:06I want to bring something positive to you this morning.
02:10Again, live from Hunt, Texas, just behind me, a volunteer staging area in the distance here where so many people have worked together to really bring this community together
02:21and help in ways that really are just unthinkable here.
02:25So incredible.
02:26Again, not to also mention just how much action has gone into this.
02:30I want to take to some video that we took yesterday just to show you what has been happening in this area alone.
02:36Rows of tables, tents, and trucks, really all over the place.
02:41But what is most moving is who is behind those tables.
02:44So many of the volunteers are locals, people who were affected themselves but are still showing up, giving back to their neighbors.
02:52The energy here is one of urgency but also compassion.
02:56This is where hope meets action and where Hunt, Texas, is proving just how strong a small town can be in the face of disaster.
03:04We know, we see this whole community come together almost immediately.
03:09No matter where you were, neighbors were helping neighbors.
03:12People were helping each other.
03:13No matter who you go to, I need water, even just out here.
03:16Hey, we need to get this food to this group out here.
03:18Can we have y'all's burgers all made?
03:20Yeah, take them all.
03:21We have more.
03:22No problem.
03:23Everyone's helping each other and we know that we will rebuild and we know that we will come back.
03:27And that just makes it even more beautiful.
03:29I know there are people that have been like, oh my gosh, you moved to Kerrville, are you going to want to move now?
03:34No, never.
03:35Why would I want to leave this community that's so tight-knit and where people look out for each other and stick together?
03:40It just grows your heart more.
03:42Yeah.
03:42Being in this area.
03:43And it will be beautiful again.
03:45It will.
03:45Isn't that a great statement?
03:52Yeah.
03:52Who would want to leave a community that is as incredible as this one?
03:56From handing out warm meals to filling up gas cans, these organizations are helping families meet their most basic needs.
04:03Red Cross crews have been working door-to-door.
04:05World Central Kitchen has served thousands of meals across Kerr County, many made by local chefs who stepped up to feed their neighbors.
04:12The Salvation Army has been coordinating shelter and supply distribution, while smaller community groups have created pop-up hubs.
04:20Again, we bring you back live to Hunt, Texas this morning.
04:23It is emotional.
04:24There is no doubt about it.
04:26The stuff that you see here is, um, it's, there are no words, Bernie and Ari.
04:32There is, it's just not.
04:33And, um, you know, I, I think, I think what we can agree on is no story is the same.
04:41Each one is harder than the last.
04:44So many people grieving.
04:46But as we know, and what we've shared for so long, when you go to these communities, what do we say?
04:52The people at their lowest are the ones that go the highest, guys.
04:57Beautiful, beautifully said, Allie.
05:01Uh, we appreciate it.
05:02It takes someone really brave to be out there, uh, bringing those stories.
05:05You're getting all of that firsthand information, having to digest that yourself as well.
05:08So we appreciate all the work that you are doing and sharing everybody's story there live in Ingram, Texas.
05:12We appreciate all the work that you are doing and sharing everybody's story there live in Ingram, Texas.
