I want to bring in our severe weather expert, meteorologist Guy Pearson from our Severe
00:04
Weather Center in Wichita, Kansas.
00:07
Kansas City, one of the cities that will be impacted by severe weather over the next couple
00:14
of days.
00:15
And you know Guy, much cooler air across the plains right now and the Midwest, but as we
00:20
head into tomorrow, you could already see when you look at the high temperatures tomorrow
00:26
that the warm air quickly returns in cities like Wichita and Dallas where we get into
00:32
the 80 degree mark and then that sets us up for later tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow
00:38
night.
00:39
Yep, it certainly does.
00:43
Good morning everybody.
00:44
You know, certainly over the weekend we had the cold front come through, we went from
00:47
a big drop Saturday to Sunday yesterday.
00:50
Still a little cool today, but as you mentioned, we're right back in the 70s tomorrow bringing
00:54
that warmth back up and as far as the severe weather threat for tomorrow goes, we're looking
00:59
for some severe weather extending all the way across from Omaha to Des Moines all the
01:05
way back through Dallas.
01:07
And then we do have a moderate risk area outlined for tomorrow across portions of eastern Oklahoma,
01:15
eastern Kansas, basically from about Kansas City through Wichita, Oklahoma City down to
01:19
about the Red River, so Oklahoma-Texas border.
01:22
And we're looking at, you know, isolated tornadoes, wind gusts of 60-70 and large hail with some
01:28
of those storms.
01:29
You know, to this one, this is a sneaky severe weather area because, you know what, the air
01:34
may not be unstable enough, Guy, but there is going to be a tremendous amount of wind
01:40
energy going through this area late in the day.
01:44
Yep, it's one of those pieces of energy that's going to be rotating out and through the area
01:50
and that's going to be enough then to really, you know, kick off some of those, you know,
01:55
more intense severe type thunderstorms that, you know, are going to be able to produce
01:59
some of the things that we've talked about here.
02:01
You know, just like last week, Guy, we were talking about these high temperatures that
02:05
we're going to be seeing.
02:06
Take a look at Wednesday.
02:07
I mean, these are temperatures that we would normally see in mid-April, mid-May I should
02:12
say.
02:13
Temperatures getting up to near 80 degrees all the way from Louisville toward to Houston
02:18
and then that next piece of energy rotates through in a very unstable air mass.
02:25
Yep, it certainly does.
02:29
That increase, we have that nice strong southerly flow tomorrow, which then continues into Wednesday
02:34
bringing all that warmth and moisture with it farther north.
02:38
You couple in that better dynamics for Wednesday and then kicking out across, you know, really
02:44
from what's going to be the Midwest all the way back into northeast Texas.
02:49
Now, this looks like a much bigger threat area from damaging winds and hail and also
02:54
while we're talking about maybe a handful of tornadoes on Tuesday, this looks like this
02:59
could be quite a few tornadoes that we're expecting late Wednesday, Guy.
03:06
Yep, that is the case.
03:08
You know, we've got the whole system comes a little bit better together.
03:12
You have more moisture, certainly more heat and then so we're looking at a large area
03:18
of moderate risk for severe weather from Chicago to Detroit all the way back through far northeastern
03:25
Texas and then we even have a high risk in this particular instance that's ranging basically
03:31
from Evansville, Illinois back through Memphis, Tennessee, northeast Arkansas.
03:35
So some of these areas that have had been hit with severe weather over the last week
03:40
and a half are going to continue to get hit this week, unfortunately, with more severe
03:44
weather.
03:45
All right, Guy Pearson, our severe weather expert from our Severe Weather Center in Wichita,
03:50
Kansas.
03:51
Guy, thanks for joining us here.
