00:00KIK, the initials fit, especially for penny-pinchers seeking to stretch their budget for food with more savings.
00:07The latest Kadiwa outlet in Kamuning Market in Quezon City is bringing in more happy customers with substantial savings on their food buys.
00:15The full report from Denise Osorio.
00:19It's barely 6 in the morning and the early patrons are queuing up at the Kadiwa ng Pangulo stall in Kamuning Market for rice at just 20 pesos per kilo.
00:28Egay, a grandfather, is one of the regulars at this stall.
00:32He provides meals for five at home.
00:34And thanks to the low-cost rice, his household can stretch 10 kilos to nearly a full week without breaking the bank.
00:49With two energetic grandchildren at the dining table, the savings per kilo of rice is substantial.
00:58The stall's vendor indicated mornings are the busiest with rice sold from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. only, drawing senior citizens as their most frequent patrons.
01:18But a meal isn't complete without vegetables.
01:21And as the rainy season sets in, eating healthily is more important than ever.
01:26So here's a quick look at today's market prices.

01:55Despite the recent downpours, vendors say vegetable prices remain steady.
01:59And no sudden spikes for now.
02:01Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture said,
02:03Typhoon Bising's impact has been minimal, with just 300,000 pesos in recorded losses,
02:09giving a testament to the country's improved disaster readiness.
02:12In fact, the rains are doing some good, nourishing the soil for the next planting season.
02:18And with a strong harvest during the recent dry season, officials are optimistic.
02:22The need for imports is likely to wane,
