Whistler on the Green is the closest pub to Glasgow Green.
Transcript
00:00My name's Calvin and I work here at the Whistler in the Green.
00:05So we're a wee community bar just at the bottom of the Salt Market next to Glasgow Green.
00:10We do food, like really good pub food during the day.
00:15Quite big on music, so we have DJs and stuff playing at the weekends.
00:19So it's literally just across the road, yeah.
00:21I mean, it's a good weekend for us because they close off all the roads
00:26and it's almost like a carnival atmosphere.
00:29Do you know what I mean? So it's good fun.
00:30Yeah, we can't wait, man, really.
00:32It's good and the weather's going to be good as well.
00:33It's going to be about 28 degrees, so it's shorts and taps halftime.
00:37Anyone from your old school Glaswegians, do you know what I mean?
00:41Proper characters, but then we'll have quite a lot of students
00:46and then we'll get people in on dates and things as well, do you know what I mean?
00:49So quite a collective mix of people.
00:51It's a good broad spectrum of Glasgow.
00:54Paul Heaton, so yeah, he was, what, two years ago?
00:56So obviously with the cost-of-living crisis going on,
01:00so there's a few bars around the local area,
01:02so he just came and he just put £150 behind the bar,
01:05just like anyone who wants to come and have a drink, it's on him.
01:08Do you know what I mean?
01:09So it was pretty cool, yeah.
01:11We are open from 12 till 12.
01:13We serve food from 12 till 7 during Transmit.
01:15Like, you know, we'll just do a little bit more of a reduced menu
01:18and we'll do, like, burgers and lasagna and stuff like pasta
01:21for people wanting to come and have something to eat before they go
01:23and, you know, line their stomachs sort of thing.
01:26Do you know what I mean?
01:26But then you'll get people in and out during the day, do you know what I mean?
01:28Because you'll get people coming in to, like, go see the headliners,
01:31but they don't really want to hang about too much before it in the venue.
01:33It's good for people watching as well
01:35because you've got all sorts going on out the front, man.
01:37So it's good.
01:37I'm going to see the Fontaines DC on Saturday.
01:40That's the big one for me in Underworld as well.
01:41Yeah, well, I like Dictator as well.
01:44Dictator is a good band.
01:45I think they've got something on at King Tut's as well.
01:46So I'm going to try and go down for that.
01:48And then Bems as well.
01:49I love Bems.
01:49So I think he's headlining the BBC Introductions Days
01:53and Big Miz, I think he's playing as well on the Friday.
01:59So, yeah.
02:00So we've got Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
02:02We've got local DJs playing 6 till 12.
02:05So on the Friday, we've got Dance Atmos and Carmen Bayer coming down
02:10to play some records.
02:12And then on the Saturday, we've got Chirogen and Baby Chino.
02:18And then on the Sunday to cap it all off,
02:20we've got Jace Leenot and myself.
02:23So, yeah.
02:24So just kind of like party vibe, do you know what I mean?
02:25So kind of nice and chill during the day
02:27and then we'll kind of let it loose a bit later on.
02:30Do you know what I mean?
02:30So it should be good fun.
02:32Can't wait.
02:32And it's all free.
02:32It's free entry as well.
02:33So if people aren't even going to the festival,
02:36they want to come down and they want to just experience the environment.
02:39But if they still kind of want to have a bit of fun,
02:41just come on in, man.
02:42Do you know what I mean?
02:42So, yeah, it'll be good.
02:43And then obviously we'll be serving some food as well during the day.
02:46So it'll be good.
