Seems like Derrick White is excited to still be a member of the Celtics
KP & Jrue have already moved. Does Mego think Al will go elsewhere or retire?
Transcript
00:00Derek White, very glad to be staying with the Boston Celtics.
00:04Here was Derek White on NBC Sports Boston talking about being still in Boston.
00:11I didn't feel too worried about anything.
00:15My agent and Brad had been talking and all the other rumors and stuff
00:19I wasn't really too worried about.
00:22I feel like it's cool to be wanted by other teams,
00:25but I wanted to stay in Boston,
00:27and I was glad they wanted to keep me.
00:30Listen, the man gave up his teeth for us.
00:34I'm delighted that he's here.
00:36Twice.
00:36And I'm sure you are as well, right?
00:38We got to talk Celtics with you because you are our Celtics insider.
00:41So maybe at 820, I want your thoughts on this team and where they are going.
00:46That sounds good.
00:47That does sound good.
00:48I'm very happy Derek White is still here.
00:50I think he is a core piece of what the Celtics are going to be looking to do
00:54in the future.
00:55So unless somebody gave up the farm for him completely,
00:59I just don't think that they were going to move on from him.
01:02Where are you on Al Horford?
01:03He's probably gone, right?
01:06Yes.
01:06So Brad Stevens said the other day he's likely gone.
01:08And that's sad.
01:10I like losing Chris Stapps Porzingis and Drew Holiday is sad.
01:14With Al Horford, it just was, to me, in my mind,
01:17like never really going to line up in terms of his age,
01:21what he's probably going to get,
01:23which is going to be like probably over $9 million a year.
01:26Right.
01:26And what the Celtics are doing,
01:28what they're spending this year just doesn't make sense.
01:30Yeah.
01:30And why not?
01:31Al probably wants to go to a contender.
01:33If he knows he's only going to play another year or two,
01:36go to a team like Golden State,
01:37or I think maybe Cleveland was interested.
01:40He might retire still.
01:41Yeah.
01:42He might do that.
01:43I mean, Wiggy, you tell me, like, he's 39.
01:46He's got a wife and kids.
01:48If the only real option is Golden State, that makes sense.
01:52Maybe Denver.
01:53He's telling his family, like,
01:54we're going to pack everything up for one year and move out there.
01:58Well, maybe they won't go, but he'll, like, if he's,
02:01because I always look at it like this.
02:03If you want to retire, like, you know you want to retire.
02:08You might think about it for a little bit,
02:10but at the end of the day, you go, you know what?
02:12I'm done.
02:13When you're kind of like, that means that's telling me you still want to play.
02:18You're just looking for that right spot to play that final season.
02:22And I think he still wants to play,
02:25and he's just waiting to see what team that is where he can go, all right,
02:29I know what my role is going to be.
02:31Like if it's the Warriors or something like that.
02:33And he gets $9 million, and he feels like they could be close.
02:37And I know what my role is.
02:39Maybe I start in Golden State, but I'm not playing a ton of minutes
02:42because, you know, they're going to make sure they're taking care of me.
02:45And this is a team that's going to have the ability to contend.
02:49So I think Al's looking for that situation more than he wants to retire.
02:54All right.
02:54That is they said.
