Penn State RB Nick Singleton 2026 NFL Draft
Transcript
00:00I really think that Nick Singleton lives up to the hype
00:04that we talk about with what he was as a recruit.
00:07He is an elite athlete.
00:09He has tremendous acceleration for a 220-pound running back.
00:15The size and athleticism coupled together is so hard to come by.
00:20I just get a little bit hesitant on his ability to change direction
00:25and his vision.
00:27He will, if given a wide-open lane, in Andy Kodonecki's offense,
00:32he's given a lot of these wide-open lanes where he just needs to pick up speed
00:36in a hurry and attack downhill, and he'll run somebody over.
00:38But if I'm asking him to change direction, he's almost moving so fast
00:42it's hard for him to transition.
00:43And a lot of times, if those holes don't open up
00:45and it wasn't schemed open for him, he does hesitate.
00:49He does not find the best path for him to create for himself.
00:54Singleton will be productive in the NFL.
00:55If somebody will take him and use him effectively to his skill set,
00:59I just wasn't as juiced up as I am with some of these other prospects
01:04for his vision.
01:06We share a similar perspective on Singleton,
01:09who is my number two running back in this class.
01:12I like him, but I wanted to love him.
01:15And I just couldn't love him.
01:16You know what I mean?
01:17It's so strange to say, because he has all the tools.
01:21I mean, he's six foot, he's 220.
01:22I think he's actually listed like 228.
01:24And if he's actually 228, then he carries 228 so well.
01:28But he's incredibly dense, good lower body.
01:31I mean, Joe, if you watched the Notre Dame game,
01:33I mean, I know you watched it live, but when I was watching the All-22 of it,
01:36if they would have just rode that dude until the end of the game,
01:38they would have won it.
01:39Like, he was just, he was killing him in the first half.
01:42Like, absolutely killing him because he is such an explosive downhill runner
01:46that has, I mean, he's got a gear, man.
01:48Like, he's got a top gear that, he might run like 4-4-2 or something, right?
01:54Like, I mean, he's fast.
01:55Like, he can absolutely run.
01:56And the thing I like about him as well is he's a really comfortable receiver.
02:00I mean, he had like 50-something catches last year.
02:02So he'll catch the football.
02:04He's a physical, explosive downhill runner.
02:06I agree his change of direction is not great,
02:08but the vision is what really just kind of holds me back a little bit.
02:11I think it was better this year.
02:12Like, I think that his feel was better than 2023
02:16because I remember 2023, I'm just like, man, this guy is all athlete, no nuance.
02:21This past year, I do think there was a little bit more nuance
02:23that started creeping up.
02:24But I really do think, I think it was a good decision for him to go back.
02:27And I don't usually say that for running backs that,
02:30I don't usually say that for running backs because in theory,
02:32I want running backs to get paid as quick as possible
02:34with the short shelf life, but he's a player that is not there yet.
02:37I think with another season, if he can just take a natural jump,
02:42this could be a David Johnson level type of player on the NFL level.
02:46Like, he has that type of upside with the hands, physicality,
02:49and long speed that he possesses.
02:51There's a lot to like about Singleton,
02:52but he's not quite there yet as a complete prospect.
02:55He's not quite there yet.
02:56He's not quite there yet.
