00:47Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from De JesĂşs Studios in Havana, Cuba. We'll be with the news. Stay with us.
00:59Let's go live to Vienna, Austria, where the first high-level roundtable of the Ninth OPEC International Seminar is underway.
01:13Our colleague Jorge Estoso is right there on the venue, ready to share the latest details. Welcome, Jorge.
01:17Thank you very much. This afternoon, in the second plenary session here at the Ninth Seminar of OPEC here, the International in Vienna, one of the participants of a panel about investments for the future was the Vice President of OPEC.
01:45The Vice President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez. She was very clear in her position. She was mentioning, for example, that the world, her words, the world is at war.
02:01And she said, because there were many panelists, three out of the countries that are in this panel, she mentioned Libya, she mentioned Iran and Venezuela.
02:11She said, we are under the target, she mentioned a couple of figures very important. She said, 26% of the production of the world is under sanctions and 46% of the world reserves of oil are under, what is called in Spanish, medidas unilaterales, means unilateral sanctions.
02:39And she said, most definitely, that has been the case of Venezuela, that throughout that unilateral sanctions, that she mentioned 1041 unilateral sanctions since the year 15, 16 and 17, she mentioned, is not letting Venezuela could be able to produce as much oil as they could.
03:03And she said, she was very optimistic.
03:05And she was very optimistic, anyway, that by the year 2027, she said, the first molecule of gas will be exported from Venezuela.
03:13And at the end of her presentation, she concludes about investment.
03:19And her words, she said, the geopolitica, the world geopolitics is key, fundamental, you say, for to grant the production of oil.
03:31Therefore, trying to conclude that we cannot assume that you can grant the production of oil, even though as one of the panelists and one of the members, founder of the OPEP, Telesur is reporting precisely as one of the sponsors of this event, that OPEP is founded by five members, one of them is Venezuela.
03:59How come a country under a number that she mentioned was 1041 unilateral sanctions can review, can present, can guarantee production when in reality, one of these countries she mentioned is at war?
04:19We get back to you now.
04:21Thank you, Jorge, for the information coming from Vienna.
04:25We're going to stay on top of what is happening in this ninth international seminary of OPEC.
04:30For now, let's continue with other news.
04:32In Malaysia, the foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations held Wednesday their plenary meeting in Kuala Lumpur, where they addressed issues of the economy.
04:42During the session of the Heads of Asian Diplomacy, they addressed the high tariffs imposed by Donald Trump, which largely affect the region and the economies of Indonesia and Thailand in particular.
04:52In this regard, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that there is an urgent need to increase trade among Asian members in order to combat the protectionism that threatens the region's export economy.
05:04Ibrahim also noted that Asia must chart its own course and rejected a divided world where external influence makes decisions about the region.
05:13In this context, the foreign minister of Malaysia, Mohammad Hassan, made a call to achieve peace in Myanmar, arguing that the conflict threatens the region's security.
05:26Closer to home, the crisis in Myanmar continues to weigh heavily on our country.
05:32Despite ASEAN's sustained effort, we have yet to see meaningful progress on the ground.
05:39Delayed peace in Myanmar prolongs the sufferings of the peoples and threatens the region's security.
