00:15in response to Saturday's attacks by the Zionist regime on the country's energy infrastructure.
00:21Gaza's health authorities reported that the Palestinian death toll in the war ravaged
00:30the Strip rose to 55,297 since October 7, 2023.
00:41In the United States, massive protests against Donald Trump's anti-immigrant policies take
00:45place this Saturday.
00:51Hello and welcome to From the South.
00:53I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:56We begin with the news.
01:14Iran has launched a new massive ballistic missile and drone attack on northern Israel in response
01:20to Saturday's attacks by the Zionist regime on the country's energy infrastructure, including
01:25the largest natural gas extraction and refining plant.
01:29The Iranian Air Force has confirmed the launch of a combined strike against Israel involving
01:34both ballistic missiles and unmanned drones.
01:38Several of the Iranian ballistic missiles have flown over Jordanian airspace and many of
01:43them have reportedly been intercepted by the country's anti-aircraft systems.
01:49Israel's emergency services reported that several warning calls have been received in
01:54the country's coastal and northern districts for damage to buildings and open areas.
02:05In this context, the primary focus of this new round of operation True Promise 3 is reportedly
02:11the occupied port city of Haifa and its surroundings, home to several critical military and industrial
02:18sites, including oil refineries and electricity grids in Haifa, where fires reportedly broke
02:30out as a result.
02:32Images show a massive blaze at the Haifa oil refinery with thick black smoke blowing into
02:38the sky, with preliminary reports suggesting that the issuing blaze is emitting toxic chemicals
02:45into the air.
02:46In the northern occupied territories, the missile sirens sounded in the Upper Galilee and Western
02:51Galilee regions, as well as in the city of Nazareth and its surrounding areas and the city
02:56of Afula.
03:03The Iranian Air Defense Force shot down Israeli drones in the airspace of the Sanjan province.
03:10Iranian Air Defense intervened immediately after several small drone and reconnaissance vehicles
03:15violated the province's airspace and managed to destroy advanced Sionist drones in several
03:21areas.
03:22They also reported that these drones were intended for espionage and surveillance operations inside
03:28the nation.
03:29Therefore, the Armed Forces and the Air Defense Network stated that they are on high alert in
03:35case of any infiltration into the country, assuring that they will respond to the enemy as
03:41soon as possible.
03:55On the other hand, Tasneem News Agency reports that the headquarters of Iran's Defense Ministry,
04:01located in Tehran, was attacked on Saturday night by Israeli forces.
04:05The media reports that one of the office buildings of the headquarters was slightly damaged.
04:10Meanwhile, during another attack in the area, the Ministry's Defense Research and Innovation
04:16Organization was also hit.
04:18Previously, the Israel Defense Forces reported that they attacked military targets in Tehran
04:24while operating to intercept missiles launched from Iran.
04:35Iranian naval forces identified and forced a British intelligence destroyer operating in
04:41the waters of the Sea of Omen accused of attempting to guide Israeli missiles into Iranian territory
04:46to change its course.
04:48The Public Relations Office of the Iranian Naval Region reported that the British warship, which
04:54had entered the Northern Indian Ocean the previous night, with the alleged purpose of coordinating
04:59Israeli attacks, was detected by Iranian maritime surveillance systems.
05:05It was also subsequently intercepted by Navy combat drones, which issued warnings that prevented
05:11its progress into the Persian Gulf.
05:14The destroyer, now under Iranian operational monitoring in the waters of the Sea of Omen,
05:19was thus forced it to alter its trajectory, although Tehran did not specify whether there was a physical
05:26confrontation or only a strategic deterrence.
05:37In the Middle East, Syria and Jordan closed their airspace amid regional tensions.
05:42In the midst of escalating tensions, the Middle East has decided to close its airspace as a preventive
05:48measure against possible threats to its national security.
05:52The measure follows similar restrictions adopted by Iraq and Iran.
05:56This in a context of growing instability generated by the provocations of the Israeli regime and
06:02its Western allies.
06:10In Yemen, the Ansarola movement categorically denied on Saturday reports of alleged Israeli
06:15airstrikes on Yemen territory.
06:17The denials come after international media reported alleged Israeli bombardments against
06:23Houthi positions in the last 24 hours.
06:26Likewise, while the enemy is staggering under the weight of the Iranian attacks, it resorts to
06:31promoting lies to fabricate an imaginary victory.
06:36For its part, the Yemeni government claimed that this news is part of a psychological war
06:42to mislead the people of the Middle East.
06:46Meanwhile, Iranian defences responded to Israeli drone strikes against the strategic port of Bandar Abbas.
06:57Iran reports detailed that the Zionist aggression took place during a local holiday, but for
07:02the moment, possible deaths or injuries are ruled out.
07:05Likewise, the Iranian forces warned that defense activities were also activated in regions such
07:11as Tabriz, Qorramabad and near nuclear facilities in Isfahan.
07:18Meanwhile, Iran reported a new Israeli attack on Saturday against an actual gas facility located
07:29in the South Pars field in the Persian Gulf.
07:33The Zionist army attacked a petroleum refinery warehouse belonging to the Fajar Hajjab Company
07:39in the province of Buchehr.
07:41The attack caused a fire in the area, and firefighters are working on site to extinguish the blaze.
07:48In this refinery is the world's largest natural gas field shared between Tehran and Doha.
07:59According to Gaza's health authorities on Saturday, the Palestinian death toll in the war-ravaged
08:04strip has risen to 55,297, with a further 128,426 injured since the genocide began on October 7, 2023.
08:18Over the past 48 hours, Israeli attacks have claimed 90 Palestinian lives and injured a further 605 people.
08:27It specified that 5,014 deaths and 16,385 injuries had occurred since March 18, 2025, and revealed
08:37that medical facilities had received 274 fatalities and over 2,532 injured people from incidents
08:47near humanitarian aid distribution centers in southern Gaza.
08:57And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at

09:16Welcome back to From the South.
09:18In the United States, protests against the anti-immigration and repressive policies of
09:23President Donald Trump are ongoing.
09:26Under the slogan A Day Without Kings, thousands of people have showed their rejection to the
09:31hegemonic policies of the Trump administration, which is using the army to repress demonstrators
09:38and the immigrant community in the United States.
09:42The protests, which were also called in Mexico, the United Kingdom and Germany, follow several
09:47days of tensions and riots in the city of Los Angeles, spurred by the latest raids on immigrants.
09:54Over 2,000 protests have been called in all 50 states of the country amid the military parade
10:00announced by the U.S. President to mark flag day and the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army.
10:11I'm here to protest the unlawful deployment of the California National Guard and the ice
10:18raids breaking up L.A. families.
10:20I'm here to send a message to Washington, D.C. Congress needs to stop Donald Trump.
10:27Federal courts need to continue their checks on his power.
10:33Early on Saturday morning, two Minnesota state legislators and their spouses were victims
10:40of separate shootings allegedly carried out by an individual posing as a police officer.
10:46Democratic Representative Melissa Houtman of Brooklyn Park and her husband Mark were killed.
10:52Democratic Senator John Huffman and his wife were injured and are receiving treatment in
10:56hospital.
10:58The attacks occurred in two different locations, Champlain and Brooklyn Park.
11:02The police department issued a lockdown alert following reports of multiple shootings warning
11:08residents not to approach any suspects as the shooter may be posing as a law enforcement
11:14officer.
11:15Also, it is believed the attacker is armed and extremely dangerous.
11:21We're here today because an unspeakable tragedy has unfolded in Minnesota.
11:29My good friend and colleague Speaker Melissa Houtman and her husband Mark were shot and killed
11:34early this morning in what appears to be a politically motivated assassination.
11:38Our state lost a great leader and I lost a dearest of friends.
11:44Speaker Houtman was someone who served the people of Minnesota with grace, compassion, humor,
11:49and a sense of service.
11:51She was a formidable public servant, a fixture and a giant in Minnesota.
11:57She woke up every day determined to make this state a better place.
12:03She is irreplaceable and we've been missed by so many.
12:08Minnesota's thoughts and prayers are with her family, her loved ones, her children, and
12:11her parents.
12:13My prayers also go out to state Senator John Huffman and his wife Yvette, who were each
12:19shot multiple times.
12:20The Huffmans are out of surgery at this time and receiving care and we are cautiously optimistic
12:26they will survive this assassination attempt.
12:30On Saturday, the presidents of Russia and the U.S., Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump spoke
12:35by telephone.
12:36The two leaders discussed the escalation in the Middle East caused by the Israeli attack
12:40on Iran.
12:41According to Judy Ushakov, a Russian presidential advisor, Putin condemned Israel's military
12:47operation against Iran and expressed serious concern about a possible escalation of the conflict.
12:53Trump also described the situation as very alarming but acknowledged the effectiveness of Israel's
12:59attacks on facilities in Iranian territory.
13:02The telephone conversation between the two leaders lasted 50 minutes.
13:06They also discussed the Ukrainian conflict and compliance with the agreement reached with
13:11Kyiv at the last Istanbul meeting.
13:13In addition, Ushakov stated that Putin had congratulated Trump on his birthday.
13:25In Bolivia, President Luis Arce announced that he will continue operations to remove roadblocks
13:30in regions disrupted by protests, demanding that former President Evo Morales be allowed
13:35to run in upcoming elections.
13:37Arce reported that police and military forces are working to lift the blockades in PotosĂ,
13:43Chiquisaca and Santa Cruz.
13:46In this regard, authorities are taking action to guarantee free transit and the safety of
13:51citizens and prevent foot shortages.
13:54President Arce also condemned acts of political violence and what he described as illegal methods
14:00in the exercise of democracy.
14:08As Brazil's trial of former President Bolsonaro moves forward quickly, legal analysts are predicting
14:15that the final verdict will be made by October.
14:19Our correspondent, Ryan Mir, has more.
14:23The Supreme Court trial against former Brazilian President Bolsonaro and seven of his cronies
14:28who prosecutors believe made up the central nucleus of a three-year plot to implement a military
14:34coup has reached the final stretch as the defendants were called to the stand this week to testify.
14:40I would like to know of the defendant.
14:45Mr. Bolsonaro believes that he acted within the framework of the Constitution when after
14:53disagreeing with a court order, he summoned the commanders of the armed forces to debate it.
15:00Far-right former President Bolsonaro started off calmly during his nearly two hours on the stand.
15:06But most journalists and analysts who covered the proceedings believe that, as the questions
15:11got more complicated, he began to lose his cool and sabotaged his own defense.
15:16Why the armed forces, commanders, we had the same education.
15:22We went to the academy.
15:23We had the same training.
15:24The military are always with you in your good and bad moments.
15:27I was in no mood to invite anyone to discuss anything.
15:30They were the only ones left who could listen to me let off steam.
15:33The defendants have finished their testimony.
15:36Now the court will summon key witness, Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, to the stand to make his
15:41final statement.
15:42From this moment, the defendants will have a period of 15 days to develop and present their
15:47final arguments to the court.
15:49At that point, a panel of five justices will issue their rulings, which legal scholars are
15:54predicting will come in by October.
15:57Bolsonaro incriminated himself, by admitting the existence and his knowledge of a Green
16:05Club plan, by admitting that he presented this plan in a meeting with the commanders
16:09of the armed forces, and by admitting that he directly looked for alternatives to the election
16:16results, including declaring a stage of siege.
16:19If convicted, former President Jair Bolsonaro will face a sentence of up to 40 years.

20:22could be affected by floods and landslides caused by tropical storm Wu Tip.
20:28The Meteorological Agency warned the population to be on the lookout for potential disaster
20:33risk as rain is expected over the weekend.
20:36It also pointed out that flash floods and landslides could negatively impact the environment
20:43and endanger lives.
