Today, various Left student organisations have gathered outside Jadavpur University to support the nationwide workers’ strike called for the repeal of the new labour codes. These codes are being described as 'extremely horrendous', even 'barbaric', laws that effectively 'strip workers of rights they have fought for over years and decades'.

The All India Trade Union Congress, a forum of 10 central trade unions, called for a strike across the country on Wednesday, which will affect postal, banking, electricity, public transport, and several other services. The forum has claimed that 25 crore workers are being mobilised for the "general strike" in protest against the new labour codes, along with other issues.
