At just 17 years old, Dorothy Jean Tillman II from Chicago made history by becoming the youngest person to earn a Ph.D. in Integrated Behavioral Health from Arizona State University. Her extraordinary academic journey began at age 10, when she started taking college courses. By 12, she had completed her bachelor’s degree. She didn’t stop there—by 14, she held two master’s degrees and was accepted into ASU’s doctoral program at 15.
Dorothy’s groundbreaking research focused on reducing mental health stigma among college students, showing a remarkable commitment not just to learning but to helping others. Known as “Dorothy Jeanius,” she also founded the Dorothy Jeanius STEAM Leadership Institute, which empowers youth in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math in both the U.S. and South Africa.
While she admits she missed out on some typical teen experiences, Dorothy says her true mission is to inspire others, lead with purpose, and show young people everywhere that they can dream big and make a difference.
