00:00I want to just thank everybody for taking the time to be out here, and as was shared by the senator and the congressional representative,
00:07what a disgrace what's happening in MacArthur Park.
00:11What theater.
00:13On the six-month anniversary, after all, of these fires, that's the message from the polluted heart of the president of the United States,
00:22the polluted heart of Stephen Miller.
00:26Those National Guard men and women that were out there protecting people,
00:30are now being used as political pawns, out there on horsebacks, running through soccer fields in the middle of the day,
00:38timed around announcements and events like this.
00:43It says everything you and I need to know about the state of mind of the president of the United States in this administration.
00:54So to those that feel torn asunder by everything that's happened over the course of the last six months,
01:04notably highlighted and reinforced the last six weeks and over the course of the last 60 minutes,
01:09and a day like today, I want folks to know we have your back and will continue to come back
01:16and do what we can to protect our diverse communities,
01:21to protect the spirit that defines the best of this city and our state,
01:26and to push back against this cruelty,
01:29to push back against this cruelty that is being perpetuated by the president of the United States.
01:38Hopefully, get them to reconsider and to resubmit.
01:44Well, look, you've got an estimated 41 percent of our workforce in the construction side,
01:50and that's a unique California stat.
01:52We've much higher Texas and California of the two highest percentage of people without documentation,
01:56immigrants working in our constructions, unions, and trades,
02:00people that are also not in the unions and trades.
02:03And so it's foundational to our recovery for him to, you know, intentionally do what he did today.
02:14They know what they're doing.
02:15And then again, they have no idea what they're doing.
02:21And their ignorance is legendary.
02:23And the impacts of this will be felt in the recovery.
02:27And that's on them.
02:29Donald Trump owns that.
02:30He owns the cruelty.
02:31He owns the arrogance, not just the ignorance.
02:37It's, by definition, weakness.
02:41Only a weak person puts on a show like that with horses and bringing the National Guard.
02:50Mr. Thank you, Mr. Mayor, thank you so much to all.
02:53At this moment, it's appropriate to remind ourselves that there are people that are not here.
02:59Thirty lives that were lost because of this tragedy.
03:04Process, right to entry.
03:06There were just less than 2,000.
03:09Altadena, the average life lost was 77 years old.
03:13You had great-grandparents, not just grandparents.
03:16You had a father and a son that died.
03:18You had brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles that perished in this fire.
03:23Thirty lives lost, I hope, puts in perspective the moment we're in.
03:29And I hope it also puts in perspective how blessed, Bishop, we are to be here, to be members, many of you, of this remarkable community and to have the opportunity to be part of this recovery.
03:48Recovery, after all, is what defines us.
03:53It's not what happens to us, it's how we respond to what happens to us.
03:58And I just want to thank President Joe Biden for being there and initiating this process and affording us the opportunity to be in the position we are today.
04:09Thank you.
04:10The baton was passed to the Trump administration, and they have honored that commitment.
04:21As a consequence of that, we went through phase one and phase two with over $2 billion of federal resources invested.
04:30We secured an additional $3-plus billion.
04:33Many Angelinos have the Woolsey fire, 132 homes per month.
04:38We are now entering the next phase, and again, at a historic pace.
04:44And we have to maintain that same mindset, that same intentionality, the same deliberative focus.
04:50And we have to be, I think, mindful with humility and grace of the magnitude of what is being asked of us going forward.
04:59But one thing that is critical is that we go forward together.
05:04Good afternoon, everybody.
05:09I agree.
05:11It's hard to believe it's been six months.
05:17Los Angeles has been through a lot.
05:20Our country's been through a lot.
05:25Our communities are going through a lot.
05:28And I, too, want to take a moment to acknowledge what's going on in Texas right now.
05:37I think our hearts go out, as Californians, to the people in Texas who have suffered so much this last weekend.
05:45Those who have lost loved ones because of the flash floods, and those that are just so anxious, waiting to account for missing friends and family.
06:00It is an absolute reminder that Mother Nature does not discriminate.
06:11Natural disasters can impact any state, any region in the country, regardless of your political leanings.
06:20This is the time to be investing more in FEMA and empowering FEMA, not attacking FEMA or threatening to eliminate FEMA.
06:37Because the people of Texas are relying on FEMA.
06:40As we speak, we've come to appreciate FEMA even more.
06:43Again, no region of the country is immune.
06:46Thank you.
06:47Thank you.
