00:00The Department of Public Works and Highways is treading carefully on the Hercunan task of EDSA's surface road and sub-base makeover
00:07using an emerging technology that could eliminate widespread digging along stretches of the highway.
00:13Hence the process of testing and retesting to ensure the methodology works, as our Bernard Ferrer reports.
00:20The Department of Public Works and Highways, or DPWH, is currently testing a piece of engineering technology
00:26that can be used for the EDSA-revealed project.
00:29Although the entire process has yet to be determined, in terms of duration, DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said
00:34there are two primary steps that need to be undertaken.
00:37First, the strengthening of a road's base and sub-base.
00:41And second, the installation of the running surface.
00:44If the testing of this process proves successful, there will be no need to dig up the entire stretch of EDSA,
00:50a major thoroughfare used daily by hundreds of thousands of motorists and commuters each day.
00:55After trying to put it into a time and motion process,
01:01we determined if we can estimate how long it will take us to do all the EDSA-revealed program.
01:11We tested the test into the most traveled roads in Metro Manila.
01:17The DPWH also prioritized complying with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcus Jr.
01:24to mitigate the project's adverse impact on traffic flow.
01:27The construction will continue to follow by-lane approach to avoid causing major disruptions to motorists and commuters.
01:33By-lane pa rin. Eventually, yung paggawa ng ano yung running surface. By-lane pa rin.
01:38But probably, hindi na kami gagawa sa araw yung mga ganun ba? Tinitingnan namin kung paano.
01:44One of the project's objective is to address the flooding that affects certain parts of EDSA during the rainy season.
01:50There's no way but to dig it up and put a new drainage structure.
01:55Meanwhile, the MMBA Special Operations Group Strike Force conducted clearing operations along Masaya Street in Quezon City.
02:06Several illegally parked vehicles and tricycles obstructing the sidewalks were towed away by the authorities.
02:12Bernard Fedeck from the National TV Network for new and better full beats.
