Volunteers step up as donations pour in for Texas flood victims

A donation center in Center Point, Texas, has been established in the town's high school, where volunteers loaded trucks with tools, non-perishable foods and water on July 7, 2025 for victims of the deadly July 4 floods. 'Our first thing right now is really to take care of our friends and neighbors that have lost everything. And we're still searching for some of our neighbors and friends too,' Center Point resident John Finster, 58, told Reuters. The streets of Center Point were flooded, the fire station was badly damaged and a bridge over the Guadalupe River is still closed.

00:00So we just wanted to give tools and stuff to the local volunteer fire
00:08department because they are doing a lot of work cleaning up all the trees and
00:12debris. And so we figured the best thing to do was be to provide those tools
00:15for them. Well, I think it's just important to take note of this kind of
00:18thing and just know that people when provided with the freedoms and
00:22resources to live independently can come together collectively and and
00:27provide for themselves. I think that's important so I think from here, it's just
00:42exactly what we see here is just everyone coming together and just being
00:46unified and and just supporting one another. And I think aside from the
00:52material things, you know, so things kind of come and go. But at the end of the
00:55day, it's about relationships and it's about picking each other up. Like a lot
00:59of times we always kind of joke, you know, like the only time we're looking
01:01down on somebody is when we're helping them back up. And I think when people come
01:05together like this, this is exactly what we're doing is we're coming together as
01:09a unified front and we're helping up our, you know, our brothers and sisters.
01:25And like everybody says that one mom cries, we all cry. You know, it's the kids. I'm not going to go to the end of the day.
01:31And like everybody says that one mom cries, we all cry. You know, it's the kids. The kids are the ones that we're more concerned about.
01:38And like everybody says that one mom cries, we all cry. You know, it's the kids. The kids are the ones that we're more concerned about.
01:59You know, I think it's going to take time. It's going to take time to see this the way it was before.
02:14But hopefully, as we all got together for this, I hope we can all get it back together sometime soon.
02:22Really, I think we need to focus on the people who lost their houses. I've had a couple friends who don't have a house anymore or they've lost their husband.
02:34I have a friend who's missing. So, I mean, it's a little difficult, especially in a town where there's not too many people.
02:52Rebuildings, it's kind of the easy part, in all honesty. It's really getting past. We're still in search and rescue going on right now.
03:09The Hill Country is a loving place. It's Hill Country love that's going on. But it'll take a while, and we'll have to process through that.
03:18But our first thing right now is really to take care of our friends and neighbors that have lost everything, and we're still searching for some of our neighbors and friends, too.
03:48We'll see you next time.

04:05Bye.
04:14Bye.
