Yorkshire Water has announced a hosepipe ban, starting July 11th! Find out what this means for you and how to avoid a hefty fine.

The ban restricts using hosepipes connected to the mains for watering plants, filling ponds, or cleaning. Pressure washers and sprinklers also fall under the restrictions. Exceptions include recycled water systems.

Residents are encouraged to report hosepipe misuse. Water fountains' status is unclear, with some still running. Stay informed to comply with the new regulations.

00:00Early this morning it was announced that a hosepipe ban would come into place across Yorkshire.
00:04This will begin on Friday the 11th of July and will go on until enough rain falls,
00:09potentially even into winter. The Environment Agency announced a drought in Yorkshire in June
00:14and anyone who chooses to use their hosepipe in this time could be fined up to a thousand pounds.
00:19To avoid this fine people should avoid using hosepipes connected to the mains
00:23for anything including watering plants, filling up a pond or even cleaning.
00:28There is also a ban on anything that does a similar thing, for example pressure washers or sprinklers.
00:34You can however fill up a watering pan through a tap. The only exception for a hose is if it's
00:39connected to a recycled water system, for example a water bath. There will not be roving officers
00:44in place to enforce this ban so the council are relying on residents and neighbours to report
00:49on each other if a hosepipe is used. The council have not yet released a definitive answer on what
00:54will happen with the water fountains around town. However on a short inspection we can see that the
00:58ones outside City Hall are still running whereas the ones in Millennium Square and outside the Peace
01:03Garden seem to have stopped.
