We went out into Manchester to ask people on the streets about how they treat their pets and what prospective new pet-owners need to think about before making a commitment.

00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Hewson-Betz and today I'm out in the streets of Manchester asking people about pet care.
00:06And that's because the RSPCA have said that there's been a spike in cases of animal abuse and there's been a real focus now on how people treat their pets.
00:14We want to know if people have pets, how they treat them, how they think they should be treated and why they're so important to them.
00:19You've got to really think about whether you want to take care of another life or not.
00:24Like that's parenting man. Like whether it's a dog or a kid it's the same thing I think.
00:29It's another life.
00:30I do think that absolutely public information about what actually constitutes good pet care is something that really we need more.
00:40But just be wary of like the breed you're getting as well especially with dogs like some dogs are working dogs so they need to be outside.
00:46Some are fine in the flat but just do a bit more research on the animal you're getting I suppose.
00:50Dogology.
00:51Dogology.
00:51I guess what we're saying is could people like think differently and be better with no assistance. Just be better.
