00:03Zach Wheeler, complete game, one hit, one run,
00:07which I think was the Hayes homer, right?
00:10I think the Austin Hayes homer was the only hit that he allowed all day.
00:14He had 12 strikeouts, but he needed some runs late in order to get the win.
00:18Those were provided by Bryson Stott on NBC Sports Philadelphia.
00:22That one's hit the left.
00:24Deep to right field.
00:25It is gone!
00:27Gone! Off the auxiliary scoreboard!
00:31Two run! Home run for Bryson Stott.
00:35And the Phillies have taken the lead here in the bottom of the eighth inning.
00:41Big win for the Phillies.
00:43And, you know, me and you, Cam, at the end of last week,
00:46we did all those awards in the NL.
00:49And Skeens was still the favorite.
00:50And we're going to talk about him in a little while.
00:53Wheeler, you know, here's the difference.
00:55And I know they don't like to use wins anymore for all these,
00:59for the Cy Young Awards and things like that.
01:02But, you know, his team wins when he pitches, Cam.
01:05You know, I feel like there needs to be some kind of still something that shows that.
01:11And Wheeler does, when he pitches, the Phillies win.
01:14When you go complete games with 12 strikeouts, that's huge.
01:18I mean, Skeens, they're in, like, a dip right now where they've been pulling him after, like, five innings,
01:23I guess, to keep his innings down.
01:25He only threw, like, 70-something pitches yesterday.
01:27And they took about a scoreless game in the fifth inning.
01:30So, Wheeler is a little bit more of a workhorse at this point than Skeens is, obviously, young in his career.
01:37I'd actually make Wheeler the favorite right now, Cam, off his last couple performances.
01:43Great call, Carver.
01:43We talked about this.
01:44Wheeler was plus 165.
01:46I said, look, that's if you're going to play it.
01:48And I agree with you.
01:49We're old school guys.
01:50But Wheeler, like, the guy stays in games.
01:52All he does is take a look at the guy's numbers, too.
01:55Like, 12 strikeouts.
01:56I get it.
01:56Paul Skeens is a very important part of the Pirates' future.
01:59But Zach Wheeler is doing this now.
02:01And he's a veteran.
02:02He's been around the block before.
02:03I almost think it's an underrated thing.
02:05So, you know what?
02:06I'm with you.
02:06I think Wheeler, like, it should be his.
02:08But a lot of people, it's a popularity contest, right?
02:11And Skeens is the younger guy.
02:13But I think Zach Wheeler is absolutely incredible.
02:16He is.
02:17And he has been that so far, that's for sure.
02:21Also, for the Phillies, we mentioned the Yankees need third base help.
02:24The Phillies need relievers.
02:25They are reportedly targeting Pirates pitchers, release pitchers, David Bednar and Dennis Santana.
02:32Santana's the guy that tried to fight the fans in Detroit a couple weeks ago, Cam.
02:36I know you remember him.
02:37He's the guy.
02:38Wild man.
02:40The drunk fans in Detroit a few weeks back.
02:44And me and Gabe were talking about that Brian Reynolds story.
02:47I guess it got out what his no-trade list is.
02:52Yankees, Blue Jays, Mets, Dodgers, Giants, and Padres.
02:55He didn't want to play for a winner, I guess.
02:58He doesn't want to play for a winner, Cam.
02:59Ryan Reynolds likes to say, hey, just make money and lose, buddy.
03:03That's the name of the game.
03:05Like, every team has contention there.
03:06Good stuff there.
03:07Reynolds rap.
03:08That's crazy.
03:08Good job.
03:09That's who you want to go to.
03:10I don't get that.
03:12We, of course, mentioned the Jays.
03:15They beat the Angels 3-2.
03:17Sweep the series.
03:18They've won eight games in a row.
03:20Look at their World Series odds, Cam.
03:23Just over the last little while now.
03:25They opened at eight at 60.
03:28Last week, they were 35.
03:29And now they are 19.
03:31Still a pretty good price, considering, you know, they're another good week away into the All-Star break from maybe having the best record in the AL.
03:39Yeah.
03:39You know what I mean?
03:40You look at that number, 35.
03:41Are the Jays going to win the World Series?
03:43No.
03:44But the bottom line is, you know, you get in them.
03:46We had great odds before to win the division and wins over at the start of the year.
03:50We'll start with baby steps with these guys.
03:52A lot of baseball to be gone.
03:53But I'll tell you, Carver, like, you've been riding barger and all this.
03:56The relief looks like it's really coming together.
03:58And I don't know what the hell George Springer's doing, but encapsulize it.
04:02This guy's been one of the best players in baseball.
04:04It's just shocking to me.
04:05Every time he goes out there, just clutch hits.
04:07He's getting guys on.
04:08The Blue Jays are even, like, things they've never done before.
04:11Hit and runs.
04:11It's just everything is different.
04:13Like, I'm just watching this team going, where the hell was this the last three years?
04:16And they're winning games that are really, really tight, which is very, very positive.
