Tamil Nadu Congress chief allegedly barred from temple ritual, sparks controversy

The Tamil Nadu Congress chief, K Selvaperunthagai, who belongs to the Scheduled Caste, was reportedly prevented from participating in the Kumbh Abhishekam rituals. The incident occurred when Selvaperundagai attempted to take part in the holy water offering ceremony.

00:03A controversy over a temple visit by the Tamil Nadu Congress Chief, Sri Perambudura MLA,

00:09who is part of the scheduled caste.

00:12Selva Perindagai was allegedly prevented by temple authorities

00:15from participating in the Kumbhavisekam rituals at a temple in Kanchipuram.

00:19He's alleged that while he was stopped, BJP's Tamirisai Sandarajan

00:23was allowed to perform the holy water offering.

00:26Tamirisai Sandarajan was taken to the main tower

00:28to perform the pouring of holy water on the khalasana.

00:32Whereas you had the Tamil Nadu Congress Chief Selva Perindagai being stopped initially.

00:37After his supporters raised objections,

00:39he was later permitted to approach the tower, not really the temple,

00:43but was again halted by the temple body officials

00:46before participating in the ritual.

00:48Now the allegation here is that he was stopped

00:51because he belonged to the scheduled caste.

00:53He was then out of the temple and said,

01:04that's the temple and the temple.

01:08but he was the one who worked for the temple.
