00:00So Newcastle United have confirmed that Callum Wilson is leaving the club after five years
00:04at St James' Park. Now the news doesn't really come into surprise. Obviously they had offered
00:08him a new deal but it was very incentivised based on appearances and things like that
00:13and it wasn't a surprise especially after the emotional scenes following the game against
00:17Everton on the final day of the season that he did leave the club. You know he was clearly
00:20emotional then. Video of him at the Gallagher end you know with tears in his eyes almost
00:26so it's not a surprise seeing him leave and he's released a statement upon his departure
00:31already saying to all you magpies it's time to say goodbye after an unbelievable few years
00:36in the toon. Thank you for everything we stood strong together through the highs and some
00:40lows to help the club experience new hikes. I am so proud to have worn the iconic number
00:45nine shirt and to have added a little bit more history to it. Scoring at the Gallagher end
00:49really is as special as they say. All good things come to an end but there's no doubt
00:53Newcastle United will always have a place in mine and my family's hearts. Thank you
00:56for the memories CW9. Now that is a particular point for Wilson as I mentioned you know his
01:02last few years at Newcastle certainly last season wasn't the best you know he didn't
01:05score a Premier League goal and injuries really did play his part but you know before then
01:10he was absolutely certainly the best striker Newcastle I've had since Alan Shearer and before
01:13Alexander Ezekiel came to the club of course but he was brilliant he guaranteed goals. I've
01:17said in an article I did last week that him and Alan St-Maximin were sometimes the only reason
01:23to tune in and watch Newcastle United especially during that lockdown season there wasn't too
01:26much reason to watch Newcastle the football wasn't brilliant but you knew when you turned
01:30it on Alan St-Maximin would excite and get you off feet and Callum Wilson would probably
01:34score when he played and that was for a striker that's sometimes all you need he was absolutely
01:38brilliant. He yeah you can talk about especially in the first three years of the club he was
01:44fantastic I keep using these words but you know you just have to have lived it and understand
01:48that his legacy hopefully hasn't been tarnished by the last year because he was brilliant he'll
01:53go down as one Newcastle United's best ever Premier League striker so that was a shadow of a doubt
01:57you know 47 league goals and 49 in all competitions he didn't get that 20 mark he really wanted that
02:0320 goals of the season he didn't quite get there but he came to the club guarantee and he scored
02:08goals and he leaves having fulfilled that guarantee and that promise and his best season was the season
02:14they qualified for the Champions League you know he's he he scored so many goals I don't want to
02:19repeat that but he did and especially in that week if you remember where they played Tottenham
02:23Everton and Southampton they won all them games you know 6-1 4-0 and then 3-1 Callum Wilson scored
02:29in each of them games and that was just that was probably the peak of his Newcastle United career
02:33I think he loved scoring against Everton he loved scoring against West Ham um yeah it was just
02:38you can think about all these goals Callum Wilson scored most of Newcastle's best moments of the last
02:43few years bar in the cup final it's probably involved Callum Wilson somewhere in amongst it
02:48you know I did not look back at his goals and I'd watching the video that Callum Wilson put out
02:52today upon his day forgot about the overhead kick against Crystal Palace that was brilliant he scored
02:56in that memorable game against Brighton at the end of the season the guaranteed Champions League
02:59qualification he um scored against Tottenham if you remember that the first day after the takeover
03:05even the goal against West Ham at the beginning of the season then he got sort of went to lose that game
03:08but that goal you know really lifted the crowd it's the first time crowds were back
03:12and it was Callum Wilson who really you know set the stadium alight so yeah set the stadium alight
03:16not of like that yeah it was fantastic you know he's been a fantastic servant it's gonna be sad to
03:20see him go I think it's the right decision for him of course Leeds United have been interested in him
03:24this amount it'll be interesting to see where he goes I think he fancies himself still as a Premier
03:28League player and I think if he can get fit and you know have a whole pre-season behind him then
03:31there's no reason he can't score goals in the Premier League next year of course he still has eyes on
03:35England I don't know whether that should have sealed it but he still believes in himself he can get in
03:39that England squad and the only way he can do that is by playing regularly in the Premier League so
03:43be interesting to see on his next move and Newcastle United now know they need a replacement
03:48you know they start this with no not necessarily knowing if Callum Wilson's gonna leave now that's
03:53confirmed they absolutely need a replacement for him whether that's a life-for-life replacement
03:57someone like Dominic Carver-Lewin's being linked or whether it's a winger stroke versatile forward who can
04:02play a bit of everything but they need cover for Alexander Isak Wilson offered it when he was fit
04:05they struggled last year to have that cover they now need someone to properly replace Wilson and be
04:11fit you know three quarters four-fifths of the season so when Isak is rested or when Isak if he
04:16does pick up an injury they've got someone ready to go who you know I say similar more to Isak it's
04:22not the strikers in the world similar more to Isak but someone who can you know really hit the ground
04:26running and offer a presence up front but that's for another video for another time right now it's all
04:30about Callum Wilson I would love to hear your memory to Callum Wilson what was your favourite goal
04:33uh he scored what you know what what feelings did he get from you in the stands because yeah for me
04:39he will go down as one of Newcastle's best ever Premier League strikers certainly one of the best
04:42strikers I've ever seen in my lifetime I was fortunate enough to catch the very end of Alan Shearer's time
04:47at Newcastle and of course Alexander Isak's probably surpassed that like he's been Callum Wilson for the last
04:5110 years and yeah certainly one of Newcastle's best ever strikers
04:55you
